Thumb sucking is not a sign of hunger. When you smoke a cigarette, does that mean you are hungry? When a child sucks their thumb, does that mean they are hungry? No. It is comforting since they do not have a mother’s nipple to suckle on. Like baby humans with pacifiers.

You are not really thinking the difference between orphaned monkeys and wild baby monkeys. And by the way, I’ve seen wild monkeys suck their thumb too. There are channels about monkeys from Monkey Hill in China who have been recorded since 2012, and there has been a few baby monkeys recorded that still have their mothers but suck their thumbs because their mommas weaned them.
