AK vs SKS Accuracy (The Video to Settle Them All)

- In the realm of gun science, or pewology, things get hot.
Almost anybody can take a barrel, fire 3-5 rounds out of it, post a picture on Instagram stating how accurate their rifle is, and with a bunch of likes, the rifle is deemed accurate.
Most of you know, soviet-esk rifles are not known for printing sub MOA groups, however, they are known around the world for their ability to withstand the elements, as well has 10,000 or more rounds before any issues occur. That said, what about a hot barrel?
It's along this line of questioning that I came up with a simple test, probably too simple, that would compare an AK to an SKS. I have a special opportunity as most SKS barrels are 20in, mine is not. Apples to Apples, Oranges to Oranges, Barrel to Barrel. 16in.
I know there are certain anomalies being left out that would make this "unscientific", but that would require multiple types of ammunition, multiple rifles, and all from different manufacturers. You are welcome to do your own testing and post your results in the comments.
I'm afraid I'll have to stick with what I have at hand:
1. Zastava Z-PAP with a Vortex Spitfire 3x Optic
2. Norinco SKS Paratrooper with a TruGlo 3x Red Dot
I hope y'all enjoy.
Kind Regards,
The Hippie Gunner
It's a Paratrooper Norinco, damn it and thereby not an SKS representer!
My SKS never misfired . Used it for 5 years and shot steel case brass case and even my reloads .
Kept my SKSs when things were not going well in 2008 sold the AKs ,glad I did the SKSs are going for more than the Aks now
Yeah, I noticed that the other day someone stole a bunch of my AK’s a.k.a. the government I went to to keep in mind they stole them. I’ll pass the background check after they were took. I’m having a trials to go through and getting them. I had several thousand rounds of 762 ammo put back, I wasn’t going to buy another rifle. I figured Sks was going to be cheaper than the AK. Luckily found one for under 500 bucks. I don’t know if the pawnshop knew they were going up cause they sold it for 4+ tax. Everywhere else are called. They 7 to 800 bucks.
Try a 50 shot grouping again without your magazine touching the table top - fore end of stock on the sand bag.
I got a Sks. I decided to side mount a AK mount two and put a bushnail scope on it. It’s a little higher than I would want it off the barrel, but it’s really all I could do.
OK, I have this exact system. You have set up on your AK on my Sks. I just kind of went for a project, but I have a long scope same system, but the scope sets up so high. It’s not even funny. I could probably re-drill it and tap it just a smidge lower but If I don’t need to, I’m not going to
Didn’t know you were Back. Glad to see you again
Gradually and casually coming back, thanks buddy.
SKS isn't known for jamming
Comparable accuracy. SKS is a bit tighter
SKS has a slightly heavier barrel, there are a lot of factors that could go into it, trigger is slightly better as well. That said, it’s lower quality than the Zastava. Also, the SKS has a truglo sight, which should go against it but not in this case I guess. Idk, rambling, glad you enjoyed lol
I’ve also noticed it looks like you mounted your red dot to your dust cover. I hear they move a lot during firing.
If that is a side mount, what kind of rail system is that? Is that like their original pu set up
I picked up this SKS already in bubba condition, the mount is drilled and tapped into the receiver (sadly) but it’s solid. Not sure what the make is, but nothing expensive.
Great video
Now do the same test at the same range shooting as fast as you can. My buddy has a chinese sks and a heavy barreled ak47. When he shot them slowly they were almost even with the sks edging out. When he shot them quickly, the sks shined as bright as the sun. SKS put a nice 2.5ft pattern down, AK put down a 5ft+ pattern. I don't know the make of the AK but it had a bipod on it.
I guess it's what your looking for. AK can be a lot more fun blowing off 30+ rounds, sks is much tighter action and return to aim. Can't go wrong with either, one of these days I'll buy one.
Ak+Bipod usually means RPK
Yes sir, I'd like both as well.
regroup and find you a yugo SKS bubba and watch that group get even better
The receiver on an AK determines its accuracy. In my experience Chinese and Russian AK have much harder and thicker receivers and less wobble than east European built more than 10 years ago, but some newer AKs are pretty good too!
Ps, I would have liked to see you used sights only for the comparison.
Want scope mount you using?
Zastava: UTG (Same as the “Zastava” brand mount”)
SKS: Mystery Bubba Scope Mount (I would never drill and tap the receiver, but the previous owner did)
Clean your gun.
50 yards with scope is for Airifle! Try 100-150 meters without scope! SKS is better- long barrel, short stroke! Bad video!
Haha the gold mag is ridiculous in a fantastic way. Thanks for recording and posting.
