Yeah Ric you don’t have to try to explain it,we’ve all been through it with most of her songs! She is at another level and yet when you get to know her she is so very Humble and kind! Also Love God so very much! She tells a story about herself! She never wanted to be a Singer, just love music and got strength from , Mariah, Whitney and Celine, yet she became one! After awhile she got good, then got cancer, but God saved her, so she promise to use her voice to lift the Spirits of others! After awhile she had Dreams of being a Big Western Star! She justified it thinking that the bigger Star she became the more people she could help and more people she could Glorify God too! As the years went by many things happened to slow her progress to her own success! She would lock herself in the basement and argue with God and ask why He was holding her ! Finally she read a passage in the Bible that, (in my words) There are many ways to success but sometime what we see as a way to Success in just a way to our Death! Then she understood that God was just trying to save her! She wasn’t then and May never be ready for that kind of success! Since then she has turned down many big Record Companies( the latest, a couple years ago, maybe a little more, from Sony international.
She says most of the offers demand to much of her time, Time she needed for her Gospel Ministry and Charity Work,etc also would be very taxing on her Health( she had a period of about 2-21/2 year which in she had pneumonia at least 8 times, almost leading her to quite Performing/Singing. Get ready there are many Performances yet to come that are as good and better then this ! Best I have is a top 25, which use to be 10 but new Performances just keep getting added! You’ll forget in time just how good some are till you hear them again, it’s a Wonderful journey and I am only 9 or 19 years into following her! Sohyang covered Misty by Ella Fitzgerald if that's the Ella you referenced as well as My heart Will Go on as duet, both those on Begin Again Korea. She has an older 2014 cover of the Power Of Love wearing a green dress at an open concert. She also has two Whitney covers, I have Nothing on the DMC festival and I Will Always Love You on Begin Again Korea. If you like covers of power house female songs, you will enjoy those.

Please don't call So Hyang a diva. She is definitely not a diva. She's an extremely talented, humble, religious lady. She is in fact everything but a diva. I'm a retired studio/touring audio engineer who has worked with Aerosmith, Chicago, Kiss, Metallica to name a few and in my opinion So Hyang is the best female vocalist on the planet.

She is originally a gospel singer, not a mainstream artist. Although she grew up in Korea, she frequently traveled abroad for her gospel activities, naturally learning English along the way. By arranging and singing some well-known songs, she acquired the techniques of mainstream singers.
Additionally, during this period, she battled pneumonia eight times but overcame these difficulties, which eventually led to her becoming known to the Korean public.

You mentioned Ella, which I presume is Ella Fitzgerald? I think you’d be really interested in seeing for yourself how Sohyang can literally sing any genre of music & sing it well & the more performances of her you watch the more you will witness this but with regards to ms.Fitzgerald, please watch sohyang’s performance of Ella’s ‘Misty’ from the ‘begin again Korea’ series, just to prove she can sing jazz, which isn’t as easy as some people think, you can’t just sing jazz, you have to feel it.
You have just begun your Sohyang journey & in your 1st video reaction of ‘Arirang alone’ I heard you say how you didn’t want to do the same artists over & over again, you wanted to do new artists BUT having now discovered this wonderful lady, with an amazing back story by the way, I would like to bet that you will find it hard to follow that route because she is addictive, you may be like so many others who just can’t get enough of her. Don’t be fooled on to thinkin that you have just struck lucky with the 2 performances you have seen so far with the quality because believe me, every performance is at the same unbelievable level & the only thing that dictates which is the best performance is purely personal preference. Like I said, she can literally sing any genre, the big power ballads obviously, rock, pop, blues/jazz & I can’t wait for you to hear her rapping but her heart will always be with gospel & many of her performances of covers of other people’s songs often include elements of gospel in the arrangement, even when the song, in its original form, is not usually associated with that genre ( Sohyang does her own arrangements, yet another talent!).
