  • Learn all about the concept of internal and external validation of prediction models in this short epidemiology tutorial. Learn all about discrimination and calibration, calculating the Area under the Curve (also called C-statistic) and the risks of overfitting your prediction model.

Hello ma’am! My god I’ve been looking for a video such as this for months! I haven’t been able to find a simplified video or explanation regarding validations!
I’m a surgical resident from Pakistan and I want to conduct an external validation study of a prognostic score done in France about 6 years ago. We’re not taught research very well at my medical school so my research background is quite weak. Would really appreciate some mentoring or guidance from an expert. I didn’t know where else to message so here goes a TH-cam comment.
Thank you so much for the video! I’ll be sure to watch the rest too! Really excited about the SPSS ones too. Hope I get to hear back from you. Regards. Dr. Ammar

Hi, this is so informative. Can you please tell me how to calculate expected values of risk prediction models?

Thank you dr De Glas. I just wonder which statistical software did you use to plot these nice calibration graphs?

I make the graphs in Graphpad and use the calculated line by R, it was a bit too much to cover that in this video...

Please, is validation of a prediction model named predictive validity?

Hi. Thanks for the clear explanation. When can we expect to see the tutorial on how to perform cross validation in SPSS? I was also wondering whether it's possible to do 10-fold cross-validation in SPSS? Keep up the good work!

Thanks for your question! I will cover that topic in an upcoming video somewhere next month.
