Hey Michele, I’m also ghanaian born and raised but moved to the US at 12 and I honestly think you just experienced first hand xenophobia??? idk, not to make a generalization but often when ghanaian natives notice or realize you’re a foreigner or are a western born ghanaian from your demeanor or accent, they automatically have a stigma and start with their tactics thinking you’re stupid and won’t catch on. At first I just thought you had bad luck/the shop had a busy day but hearing another brit lady complain and also another American lady be mad about being in the same situation as you also + y’all being cut in-front by people who arrived after you, it’s def obvious what was going on. Unfortunately they view us western born/raised kids as know it alls/we think we’re better than them when it’s not even the case. Literally it’s projecting, like where are these ideas coming from. We just like to speak up for ourselves and not be treated like idiots which apparently is viewed as disrespect but like bruv who would sit quietly for 8 hours and not get a strand of their hair done like they planned/discussed. Sorry u had a bad experience lol, next time I suggest finding braiders either by word of mouth like you said, they’re more reliable and respect your time.

i forgot to mention in the video, but about 6 other gals dm’ed me after saying they experienced the same thing (overcharged, long waits, didn’t do the style they wanted in the end) 😢😢
it’s actually so sad that people will come to GH once and experience this kind of service thinking it’s like this everywhere, it’s really unacceptable 💔

This is true. Im Ghanaian American and grew up in both countries growing up I feel like I never really fit in any where. In Ghana 🇬🇭 they thought I thought I was better than everyone because I was American and in America I was an “African booty scratcher” 🙄😆🤦🏽‍♀️ and didn’t fit in with any of the black kids cause I was African.

I'm glad you held your own and communicated to her how you felt about the situation, I need to learn how to be more assertive. On the other hand, getting my nails done was just like your experience but not as bad. As soon as I spoke up and heard my accent they were like ok but still had me waiting. Then the lady told me I shouldn’t get acrylic. It was a shit show. When you go to Ghana be prepared to spend a day just getting stuff done. It’s better to get things done before your trip.

One thing about treating and braiding your hair in Africa, you'll have to do them at separate places cuz people who braiding at the salon don't usually treat your hair well when you want it treated like washing, conditioned, blow drying etc.I usually have someone i go to to treat my hair and then that day or some days after I go to the salon to braid

  • @shelovesthemso6252

😂Please, please don’t think that I’m laughing at your horrible experience. What is funny is the irony. People seem to think that every woman walking the street in Africa is a master braider. I’m exaggerating but you get the essence of what I’m saying. Your experience with badly done braids speaks volumes to the opposite. Large braids seem to be easy if you’re a true braider. And they managed to mess those up. From the washing, to the blow drying, to the braids, you got amateurish work. In the end, you got some beautiful braids, girl. You look great. And, I pray your trip home was a wonderful one. God bless.🙏🏾

More than 5 people waiting to start is a reason to leave the salon sis. Next time, go to the markets if you can.

If you don't mind waiting in a queue, God is Great salon at Madina is really good. Lots of good, affordable salons in Madina. I prefer AJ's Beauty though because she has 3 branches, she's fair, has excellent customer service skills and you never have to wait long. She'll also give you the price before you arrive. Also also...you'll never pass hair 😝 I really like AJ's Beauty 😂

With the worse service ever, you should name and shame them, that's the only way they will learn about customer service and that time is money.

the ‘back and forth’ that i tried to block out the details of. SIS. TRAUMATISED 😂😭💀

Your whole story traumatised me. First off never believe anything a African hairstylist says I made that mistake so many times. They and barbers put pictures of hairstyles they cannot do all over their establishment. Nor the tools they pretend to know how to use.
I am not surprised she came to scream at you, all the African stylists are overly sensitive though you are the one waiting hours for them to attend to you🤔. I can just feel the PTSD though.
Anyway, though you are from Ghana I would have brought my own hair with me. And left after hour three.

10 packs for your small head😮😮 my goodness. I'm glad you're exposing them. I wish you added their name too. This is outrageous. With how long you want the hair even it still shouldn't be 10packs

You should have left 15 minutes into not beign attended to. There are so many salons in Ghana, good ones too.

I think you should put her business name out there so others don’t experience the same. Personally my ass would’ve gotten up and left way before they got to washing my head. And then during blow dry. I’ll be damned if I sit from 9-5 waiting. No
