Final Fantasy 6 Hack: Barubary (BOF2)

- This is a recreation of Breath of Fire 2's Barubary (Barbaroi) battle in the dinosaur forest in the World of Ruin.

Attack: 250
Attack Defense: 180
Attack Block: 75%
hit rate: 100%
M. Attack: 120
M. Defense: 200
M. Block: 90%
Speed: 100
Drops an Offering.
This is for the SNES. Barbaroi uses a limited array of attacks in BOF2: Physical Attacks, FireBreath, Ice Breath, Bolt X (Mjollnir) and I believe Missile (Sirocco). Barbaroi often counters physical attacks with his hand wave attack, targetting the attacker.
Since I wanted to do a more challenging battle, Barbaroi will use similar attacks used in BOF2, but with some modifications:
Opening of Battle - Casts X-Zone, Fallen one and El Nino , in that order. This is to ensure only one party member survives (You can survive with high maical defense and the Paladin Shield.)
Random attacks - On every turn Barbaroi will attack twice; the first attack is physical, and the second is a random one:
Turn 1: FireBreath (Atomic Ray) or Ice Breath (Wave Cannon) or Wave Attack (Shrapnel)
Turn 2: Mjollnir (Phantasm with added damage and slow effect), Sirocco (Meteo with fire and wind damage) or Wave (Shrapnel)
Counterattack- Barbaroi counterattacks any kind of attack with 4 random attacks/spells:
Attack 1: Battle or Absolute Zero or Blaster
Attack 2: Battle or S.Cross or Blaze
Attack 3: Disaster or Sour Mouth or Dischord
Attack 4: Bio or Flare or holy
Final Attack - Figure it out! (hint: Barbaroi attacks 6 times before he finally dies: 3 physical attacks and 3 spells)

Actually, if there was Seles instead of Locke, it would be much more canonically. Cause Terra used to be imperial life weapon. And this fight could be something like Geshtahl's order.

@Cassiao This was my very first battle hack, Once I learn event editing, I'll make it much nicer and in a dark cave.
@HalDanGhor I used FF6usME (stands for Multiple Editor). There's a site dedicated to hacking FF6 in which you can find many hacking tools (FF6hacking).
The Breath of Fire song is Barubary's Theme (I believe it's called "A crisis"). I used camtasia to make it look like as if the song has been hacked into the game.

Yah, I know. But I don't think it's possible in the game. The best I could think of at that moment is to use the shrapnel attack to replace the crescent wave hand attack.
I have never been able to survive 2 full turns from this nightmare!
Also, could I please know what program you used to hack FF6? And if possible, what is the title of this Breath of Fire 2 song? :)
Good morning, the name of this breath of fire 2 music is "Critical Moment", but in GBA port it is called "A Crisis".
@MAD6231 Oh yeah you're right, however I don't know where is the location of the rom with this battle...but I'll keep that in mind (note that was my first battle).
Did you get a feel on working with custom attacks?

For the record, "Cefka" is Kefka's actual name. I guess Ks are just more menacing than Cs.

Oh, nice; You've got this sprite imported. I noticed it had too many colors and I've yet to simplify it where it looks good enough to use like yours. Plus I think the sprite doesn't fix the box properly.

I just added the music to the video. I found a way to *remove* music from the battle by accident on FF3usME. I still do not know how to hack music into the game...
Tina survives because of the paladin shield...She will truly be overpowered if she had the illumina sword, the paladin shield, and the force armor.

Thanks a lot, I am considering doing a revision of this battle later on. Well I like the final fantasy titles up to the 6th; after FF7 i became quite dissapointed.

@MAD6231 Yes, you need to use an image editing program to reduce the size to approximately 128x128. I use gimp and it is relatively simple to use. Zeemis suggested me to use this program.
Oh and you also need to make sure the sprite colors do not exceed 16. The game will not allow you to have sprites with higher number of colors.
I can send you the edited sprite ready to use, or if you'd like I can help you get it done yourself. Any choice you decide by all means let me know.

@EricB042389 Yeah, barubary counters almost half of all attacks.
The problem with this battle is that there's a 1/4 chance that he will counter attack with dischord, making the battle longer cause your stats are cut in half each time. And the effect is cumulative.
As a 90s JRPG nerd: Thank you. This was pure chaos. But it was beautiful.
EDIT: OK, well........$#!+. That's a hell of a way to do. He wasn't even that hard in BoF2.

There is a sprite sheet available for ryu. But I wanted to wait until the nina and bleu sprites are done, so I can redo the battle with characters from BOF2.
This takes quite a bit of time since most hackers are involved in several projects on their own.

And yeah, barubary's sprite is way big but what you need to do is use the program FF3usME and fix the monster formation so the whole barubary sprite can be loaded in the fight. If you need help doing this I can help. :)

Well, Leo with magic, his offering and atma weapon were good, along with jump on Locke, terras ultima and so on were good. Just didn't like how Kefka was customized. Kinda disappointed they lost the fight after 10 minutes too...oh well.
Nice mod though. This thing throws all sorts of random stuff and is as fast as Ozma.
Never played breath of fire. Must be as epic as final fantasy.
The translation for BoF2 was honestly terrible, but it still holds up surprisingly well. It’s one of the SNES games that comes with switch online, and I got a chance to play it not too long ago.

The player wastes too much time. Sitting there waiting for the monster to attack is a horrible strategy. That's why your characters kept getting killed.

That's really how it's supposed to be spelled. We got Barubari because someone released the monkeys at Capcom's localization department when they were translating BoF2.
