I keep losing my halibut, any suggestions on how to best reel in my lucky craft once I get the bite? Had a huge one twice today and lost both. Halibut was cartwheeling across the water and then about 5 seconds later I lost it. Any tips would be great, thank you:)
Dang, super bummer on losing 2 man, so sorry to hear that. I wasn't there so I can only guess but here are my thoughts - Based on your description of your halibut cartwheeling, it sounds like your drag may have been too tight and that you may have also been horsing him in. Again, I wasn't there and that may have not been the case. Keep your drag at 25 to 30 percent of your line (if you're using 15 lb, drag should be 5 lb max). Take your time and be patient. When he's shaking his head and running, keep your line tight but don't retrieve or yank. Halibut are super feisty but they tire out really fast too. Lastly, sometimes you just lose fish. It happens to all of us. You may have played it perfectly but sometimes it doesn't work out. All we can do is continue to strive for perfection on our part and in the long run, the odds will be in our favor. Hope that helps. Keep chucking it brotha!

Hi Benjie! What rod and reel do you recommend for surf fishing with lucky craft lures? I am a girl and the gear I’m using is to heavy and is wearing out my elbow. What would you suggest?
I just checked amazon and eBay, looks like they’re not available right now. This is not a hard to find pattern most of the time though. Most local shops that sell lc’s will carry this pattern and will have plenty. Unfortunately it might be hard to find an open store. Not sure where u live but sav on tackle in Santa Fe springs might have them in stock and they are open for curbside pickup. Might be worth giving them a call. Really depends on what you’re targeting and what you’re throwing. If I’m only throwing jerk baits targeting Hali, skunks are just a part of the game...at least for me. Let’s just say I’ve had plenty of streaks like yours. But I’ve also had double digit days. I’d like to think that over the long haul, it balances out. @@Christian-sr6pd HECK YEA man, congrats. Its not the easiest thing to get em on the LC, but when they do bite, your chances are much better of it being a good size. Hey thanks for taking the time to watch. You’re right, I do say OC in the video title but some of the video is filmed in Long Beach as well (filmed over 2 sessions, and I’ll often fish across borders in 1 day). In regards to the reply that you’re referencing, I do believe I specify that I fished both areas in the video. Please correct me if I’m wrong. In regards to sharing spots, that just isn’t something I specify in my videos. While it is certainly your right to want to know, it is also my right to share or not share certain things. Many places I fish are easily identifiable and if you know, you know. But if it’s specific spots you’re looking for, that’s just not something I do. Again, thanks for taking the time to watch and your feedback is helpful for how I may title my future videos.

That's the point brother. We don't know, or at least I don't know. Why? Because I'm a new fisherman. I only started a year ago surf fishing. And your videos looked like they are helpful. The CSA group that you mod is also helpful. But these places are not identifiable to a newbie like me. Sucks that if you know you know, and if you don't know you don't know. Anyways thanks for detailing your perspective there.
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate your honesty and respect it. Spots are an age old issue in fishing. For me personally, I’ve spent hundreds ( if not thousands) of hours the past 5+ years exploring new territories, learning structure, honing techniques, understanding my gear, skunking, and experimenting. And tho I’ve gotten better, I’m still learning every time I fish. Without a doubt locations are important to fishing. But in my opinion, it’s the time someone is willing to invest into this beautiful craft that allows each of us to get better and improve. This is how I hope to help those who watch. Don’t get me wrong, I share my spots with people I meet, get to know, and trust. I think I’m actually pretty generous with that info. Just like old timers much better than me have done for myself and others. But that framework is built around relationships. I won’t share that info on a place where anyone can see it cuz there are lots of folks who are looking for shortcuts (not saying that’s you brotha). I know I could prolly grow this channel much faster if I gave away locations, but for me personally/ethically, that would be a cheap way to grow. I do believe in “give a man a fish, he eats for a day...teach a man to fish, and he eats forever.” I’m not saying this is the right way to do it, everyone is different and has their own approach. But for me, this is what I believe and am committed to. Again, thanks for the feedback and honesty and I hope ur staying safe in the midst of this crazy time.

I do believe in “give a man a fish, he eats for a day...teach a man to fish, and he eats forever.”
I’m not saying this is the right way to do it, everyone is different and has their own approach. But for me, this is what I believe and am committed to.
Again, thanks for the feedback and honesty and I hope ur staying safe in the midst of this crazy time.
@@714Birds thanks for the tips brother :)
The beginning of the video is Surfside/Sunset Beach. Second half looks like Alamitos bay. Just pick a spot, bring your arsenal and go.
