  • This video is part of a series of short documentary films about Oscar Winning Women for the Best Actress category. I have titled this series as “Oscars Leading Ladies,” as it follows a chronology of female actresses who have received the honor.
We briefly dive into each actresses unique journey to success in Hollywood and decide what made them so iconic. Not only do we experience the colorful lives of these wonderful women, but we but we get to time travel all the way back to Hollywood starting in 1929 (when the first Oscar was awarded to a female lead) up to present day.
New videos posted every week. Enjoy!

It's really something...so she was down and out in her 50s and in her 60s achieved her greatest success. It just goes to to show...whenever people think they're better than you because you're down and out, just smile and keep on going. As long as you're alive there is always hope.

Love her in Dinner at Eight. She was a cousin. There was a museum to her in her hometown of Coburg, Ontario. But I believe it caught fire several years ago.

Too bad she passed away just a few years after her win.
I think she is the first person to win an acting Oscar to pass away.

She was brilliant! Quite a few Oscar winning actresses have a fate similar to Dresslers. Like Geraldine Page and Jessica Tandy who passed away soon after their win.

@@Karlieva Yes, true. Geraldine Page was especially sudden and tragic as she was only in her early 60s. Your video on Page was the first one I watched.

I've been to her crypt at forest lawn and took her flowers and that ain't easy as her crypt is not accessible to the public!

It's a shame that 90% (i would say) of the great mausoleum in forest lawn is close to the public stars like marie dressler, clark gable, carole lombard, jean harlow, lon chaney, norma shearer, irving thalberg, harold lloyd, michael jackson, wc fields, red skelton

She was super cool, I love how she left her Black maid and butler 50 thousand dollars to open their own nightclub in Georgia

I'm trying to remember a movie that I think Miss Dressler starred in. It was the story of a washerwoman or maid whose life was dedicated to her ungrateful daughter. Does anyone know the movie? Yeah, I know that Joan Crawford was in a similar movie, but that's not it.

Dressler apparently went through her life with no physical / sexual experience. For some people, life can be terribly sad.
