Hi. Enjoying your videos. Any chance of you using Engine Driver? It can do most of what WiThrottle full can do, but at no cost. Thank you

Thank you again for the kind comments. Good luck getting your command station hooked up to your router! Just change the SSID and Password in the config file as I described, set the server configuration in your throttle app, and you should be good to go!
      Thanks again!

Good afternoon. I don’t normally comment on TH-cam videos, but I wanted to take a moment and thank you for the series of videos. It is by far the best that I have seen as far as explaining the basics of DCC EX. Thank you very much! I do hope you still plan on doing a video about how to incorporate JMRI into the mix. I am new to this and trying to learn as much as I can. I have experience using raspberry pi boards on other projects, my understanding, is that you can incorporate a raspberry pi running JMRI with the Arduino running DCC EX for more functionality. I just recently purchased a raspberry pi Zero 2 W that I thought I would use in the model train, layout I am preparing to build. I don’t have a firm understanding of how all of this works. Anyhow, you had mentioned doing a video in the future about incorporating JMRI in a future video, but haven’t mentioned it in the last couple of videos. I am hoping you plan on still doing that. Thanks again this is a very informative series of videos.

Thank you very much for your kind comments. I'm glad that you're enjoying the videos. Yes I absolutely will be making a video about how to use JMRI with DCC-EX. Actually there will be a series of several videos on the topic, as there have been with DCC-EX. For starters they will mostly be about JMRI DecoderPro and setting up JMRI Throttles, as I don't have much call to use PanelPro yet, but I may come back to that later. And yes, you can run JMRI on a Raspberry pi, although I normally run it on my Mac.
I still have a couple of videos to finish on DCC-EX, including one about adding an LCD display which should be out soon, and one about how to flash the Wi-Fi firmware with he correct version for DCC-EX. Then I will start the series on JMRI.
Thanks again for your kind comments!

    Good evening
I am following your DCC++EX video and I would like to know how to connect the DollaTek ESP-12E ESP8266 UART WiFi Wireless Shield for Arduino UNO R3 only in Wifi, I believe that in one of your videos there is the same but I don't see how to connect the two wires like in the picture. Thank you for your reply.

    • @DriverDTrains
      @DriverDTrains  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi, thank you for your comments. A couple of notes for you along with your answer. First, according to the DCC-EX website, DCC-EX does not support Wi-Fi on the Arduino Uno as it does not have enough memory. My understanding is that the compiler that loads the code onto the Arduino doesn't even try to load the code for the W-Fi onto an Uno. That's why I recommended the Arduino Mega in Video #4a.
      dcc-ex.com/reference/hardware/microcontrollers/arduino-uno.html
"If you already have an Uno, or will use JMRI to control your trains, then by all means use an Uno. Just remember that you can’t have WiFi, Ethernet or a few other options due to memory limitations. But as a Command Station connected to JMRI with a USB cable it works great."
Now, if you have some other plans for the Dolla Tek Wi-Fi shield, the two pins you are looking for are the transmit (TX) and receive (RX) pins. These are in the bank of 5 pins that are bent flat at a 90 degree angle by the debug port on the top left corner of the board (this 5-pin arrangement is standard for UART devices). Remember, you need to connect the TX pin on the Wi-Fi shield to the RX pin on the Arduino, and the RX pin on the Wi-Fi shield to the TX pin on the Arduino.
Hope this helps and good luck!
      Thanks again!

Hello. Thanks for your video. I assembled a station like yours for the Märklin locomotive. There is a problem: after a couple of minutes of using Wi-Fi, the system freezes. This happens both through the home network and in station mode. Computer control works fine. The entire station freezes. The power does not turn off. There is no response from WiThrottle. Can you tell me what could be the problem?

Thank you for your kind comments. It sounds like the firmware on your WiFi chip may not be the version that DCC-EX works properly with. I am working now to finish the video on how to upgrade or downgrade the firmware to the DCC-EX compatible version. The version you want is 1.7.4. See "Step 1" in my community post at this link (be sure to click "read more" for the entire post) for instructions on how to check the version using the EX-Webthrottle app in Google Chrome.

Bonjour. Bonne chance!
      www.instructables.com/ESP8266-ESP-12E-UART-Wireless-WIFI-Shield-TTL-Conv/
(Thank you for your comment. I have not tried to use the Dollatek Wi-Fi card myself, so I do not know all of the details. I did find this web page that has quite a bit of information about some of the issues with that card. Apparently there are some different versions of the card that work a bit differently from each other. You can find out which version you have by looking to see which words are spelled incorrectly on the card. Be sure to read the comments at the bottom of the page. There are some links to other videos that show how to connect the card to the Arduino. Look at how they connect the yellow and green wires. Good luck! )

Thank you for your kind comments. I just released a video on using WiThrottle and Engine Driver with JMRI and DCC-EX and highlighted some of the basic info on how to connect Engine Driver DCC-EX as well. Check out Part 3 in the video for that. I may make a more in-depth video on how to use Engine Driver with DCC-EX (for example, to program decoder settings, etc.) in the future, but personally I much prefer to use JMRI DecoderPro for that, so it may be a while before I make that video.
      Thanks again and happy railroading!

Thank you very much for checking out the videos, and your question. I will be posting a video about how to downgrade the firmware soon. I am just finishing the video for the LCD Display, and the video for the firmware will be next after that one. You don't need an LCD to do the firmware, but it helps. In the meantime here is some information that might help you get ready.
Don't panic if it doesn't make sense. Order the part and I'll walk you through it all in the video.
      * You need to order something called a USB to TTL Serial Adapter. It is $9 on Amazon. Here is the link: www.amazon.com/dp/B07D6LLX19
      * Download the correct firmware:
      dcc-ex.com/_static/files/esp8266/ESP8266_NonOS_AT_Bin_V1.7.4.zip
      * Download the tool (Windows only; Mac doesn't use it):
      dcc-ex.com/_static/files/esp8266/flash_download_tool_v3.8.5.zip
      * Mac users will use the Terminal utility to install Python and run a python script.
This tells you how to install Python:
      github.com/RavenSystem/esp-homekit-devices/wiki/Install-ESPTool-on-macOS
This has some information about the script:
      github.com/DCC-EX/dcc-ex.github.io/pull/330/commits/83780f2782c0f4ae8a68b51ff9dbf149456f372a
      * Read this how-to page to get an idea what we'll be doing (again the tool is Windows only, but everyone does steps 2 & 3, and some of step 4):
      gist.github.com/nathankellenicki/7008540322c617869cec17226cff579d
It's very technical but not actually hard. I should have the video out in a few weeks.
Thanks again, and I hope you find the videos helpful.

So I am finished. Done with trains as DC is not interesting to me. Deleted the facebook groups and the TH-cam videos. Deleted the discord software Engine driver EVERY THING!. GOOD RIDDANCE TO IT ALL.
