Back in the '70's that was normal conditions for every road in the Yukon, including the whole Alaska Hwy and even the capital Whitehorse. When I was in the US Air Force I was stationed at MacDill AFB Florida in 1974. I had orders to go to Eielsen AFB near Fairbanks Alaska. I drove which was around 5000 miles. Back then the Alcan Hwy was 1200 miles of unpaved dirt muck. On the way up was in November. I drove a 2 wheel drive International Pickup Truck towing a 26 ft. Airstream Trailer. The roads were frozen and muck and ice. Driving straight up high mountains sometimes having to be towed the rest of the way up. The way back I drove a 1969 Ford 4x4 and also towing the Airstream. I came back in April during “Breakup”, meaning melted snow, ice and muck. The whole Alcan Hwy, all 1200 miles were like the road you were on and even much worse. It was the Best memories of my whole life driving that road. Of course I have some amazing stories, too much to tell here. Happy adventures!

Anytime the upper layer of the road is frost and snow free, it's road repair season in the far north. I have frequently take a massive, rear wheel drive, class A motorhome, through conditions as bad, and even worse than this. There are times when the road is so bad they end up building a temporary dirt bypass, off to the side, as they dig a really bad area out, or replace a failed culvert. As to why it's allowed to remain open, there is no choice. In many areas it is the only land route available to get to a village, mine, or other destination. If you see a land accessible village, or larger town on a map of YT, AK, or most of the northern half of Canada in general, chances are that it's only got one road in, and out. Governments try real hard to avoid absolute closures, and plan far ahead if there is no choice. A closed road can cause a lot of stress and expense to a village that gets cut off. Everything from food and fuel to medical care can be a big problem once you have to fly everything in and out.

You could say those views are "STUNNING' is what it is..At 13 minutes and 20 seconds in the video I had to take a pic of that view it was just STUNNING.. for my screensaver...Who else loves it when he gives "US" a view with is camera? He even goes slow with his camera so i can capture them.keep them coming..

Awesome trip! I for myself made it to the Arctic cirle, too. I rode by bicycle up from Germany to northern Sweden. The landscape there was not that ruff than your's but it was just as cold and rainy and a great experience. Btw. My profile picture was made on that trip.
I'm looking forward to your next video!
    Greetings from Bavaria

REALLY ENJOYED THIS. MY LATE HUSBAND AND I DROVE TO INUVIK ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO AND IT IS NICE TO ENJOY THE SCENERY FROM MY CHAIR. WE WENT IN SUMMER AND THE ROADS WERE NOT MUCH BETTER BUT THE SCENERY IS SPECTACULAR. WE MADE THE WHOLE TRIP WITH ONE FLAT TIRE CAUSED BY THEM GRADING THE ROADS AND TURNING UP ARROW SHAPED ROCKS.

Those roads reminds me of here... back in the 50ies when they were building them up to today’s standards... two years project... my mom drive them to work daily in an old Pontiac with two mud grip tires ... never missed a day

This was your greatest video! It will be hard to beat. I wonder if the unused cabin would be used by people stuck on the road in winter conditions conditions.

It’s strange that even with today’s stunning cameras, you still can’t capture the magnificence of nature when seeing it though your own eyes. Great videos, and at least we get a taste and entertainment, not such a bad deal.

Wow!!! That was beautiful, but scary. I would have had to pry my fingers off the steering wheel. I was hoping maybe you would get a quick hard rain to wash your Jeep and trailer off as long as it didn’t freeze. Thanks for taking everyone along for the ride. Really enjoyed it.

WOW! Wonderful video. That’s a trip I would love to make. I’ve been on the Alaska Highway five times but never on the Dempster to Tuktoyaktuk. Our Lance trailer would not do as well as your little egg.
