- Can-Am Spyder Road Trip: A Border Crossing, Language Barrier, Getting List, No money & Rain.
Our Asphalt Odyssey to Canada continues on our Can-Am Spyder. We take the Cog railway to the summit of Mt Washington, then ride north into Canada. Had an issue with our credit cards and it rained.

beautiful ride.. yep original from MA we stay away from Laconia on bike week lol.. But love the Kancamagus beautiful.. Now we're in western PA and the scenery is beautiful just like NH and VT.. wish you had better weather.. stay safe
Today Vermont is under water glad you left when you did but you may need to take a few detours on the way home when the floods go down. Stay safe great video.
Thankfully, we are home safe and sound. There is a lag time in our videos. John spends about an hour editing per minute of video. Feel sorry for the good folks of Vermont and New England…what a mess.
I hope you are staying ahead of all the rain.. Drive safe.
Our videos lag behind where we actually are in time. Thankfully, we arrived home before the rain!
John you had one of my favorite breakfast: bagel with lox, cream cheese, onions and capers. Yum!
Glad to see the different locations. You guys really know how to enjoy them all.
🎉
Welcome to Canada, we accept USD. Lynn & I went up Mt Washington 70 at the base snowing at the top, gift shop was selling lots of hoodies that day. Its only an estimated highest wind as the gauge blew away😎. Enjoy our beautiful country.
Saturday morning coffee and a roll, relaxing and as always enjoying your video,be safe and enjoy your trip
Quebec city lower is the treasure of Quebec out standing video
More to come!
We loved Quebec City!
Hi J & M . Got your postcard from Mt Washington . Thank you so much for taking time out of your vacation to do that for us It's so brilliant to see the video now. What an amazing place. Thank you so much for sharing your joy.
Here in England our highest elevation is Scafell Pike in the Lake District up north . 978m 😂 Ben Nevis in Scotland is 1345m
Thanks again for such great content.
Sorry about the rain... It is called New England 😂👍
Thanks for the chuckle, Les. So nice to hear from you.
I got your postcard as well. Thank you for taking the time out to send it. I went to Canada back in 2001 (before 9/11), and it was like a different world.
Beautiful place.
Even now with requiring passports to enter, we found the border guards friendly. But perhaps, who old people on a Spyder do not look like a threat!!!
Make me laugh when you wrote already lost and you were in Mansonville where it’s almost impossible to get lost since one way goes to Sutton, the other Magog and last Knowlton it Lac Brome but eh it’s our region lol❤️🇨🇦 bienvenue au Québec
I have a special gift...
We rode our Spyders to the top of MT Washington. This was my third time to the top on a bike twice on a Goldwing and once on the Spyder.
Welcome to Canada.
Well, what's a little rain if it comes with a martini bar and a fine Italian restaurant! Sorry about the ATM, I should have suggested bank machines for you. "Bonjour Québec!", well said Miriam!
The best is yet to come, Richard! Hope next week’s video captures the joy of our day together.
Oh la la…what can I say…little adjustments make for an attitude! Welcome to my country. We have ATM’s and all biz favour US dollars with strong currency exchange!!! Rode many miles in the USA…and enjoyed local flavours/culture. Before those trips, I had my ducks in line like currency exchange, EZ-Pass, National park pass and all including the kitchen sink. Rest easy, my poor English made it all the way…same will happen in French Canada. Enjoy the culture/food and change of attitude. Ride safe.
We loved our time in the Quebec province!
Nice video. We’re going to Calgary and Banff in a couple of weeks. We’re not riding our Spyder but flying and then renting a car. We haven’t ever been there. Have you ever been on the West side of Canada? I guess I’ll search some videos and find out some good places to see. Enjoy your videos and keep riding safe.
Not yet, we are giving that some thought..
John I am 1000% in agreement with you there is nothing that makes more sense than a full face helmet and a low windscreen in the rain. And there is always room for coffee. Every year our credit card get locked due to unusual charges even though we inform the credit card company we are traveling. It's a constant battle
I got your postcard.
I wonder why that spot is so windy. There are other higher spots in the Northern Hemisphere that should be more windy.
Gorgeous scenery. Too bad you didn’t see my namesake.
Good you were able to eat. 😂
We were told it the point that several weather areas join,,,
Someday you’ll have to tell us how you acquired your nickname. We will continue our search…another reason to go back.
I have been to Canada several times for business trips. I just go to a local bank with the US currency and exchange it there. I always found it amusing when they take your cash and put it in a ziplock bag like it's a Biohazard.😂
That is funny, Dan!
First!
Just came back from Rocky Mountain National Park - To be precise, the highest elevation on Trail Ridge Road (US Route 34) is 12,183 feet, which is much higher than what you experienced. The air was very thin ...
We’ve ridden across the Rockies twice and it was exhilarating! Mt Washington is lower in elevation but 3 weather systems converge there which makes it an interesting phenomenon. Love mountains period!
Love the photo from the bike ride. Great shot of you two. We all went to that mountain with the kids when they were little. The girls saw a motorcycle in front of us go off the road. CanAm summit was cool to see. Hey where are the crazy winds up there. You got off easy😂😂. What kinda pastry was that. Looks amazing. I'm always afraid we're going to run into a bunch of animals and pretty much they avoid us😢😮😮. Our rain gear has saved us many times. Tennessee does have a lot of rest areas with fireplaces in them too. The smells and the colors are my favorite on the ride. Here's the church here is the steeple open the door and there's the people. Isn't that an old saying that you do with your hands? Lol. Good job! Going through the border and not getting stripped searched lol. It is funny you expect other countries or even other states to look totally different and everything looks the same all over the world lol. Thank goodness you were able to get cash but I know you had all those meals with you so you would have been okay. Miriam, I need to see you eat the noodles like they do in Asian TV shows cuz I know how to do them from watching. Another great video!.
Thanks, Barb. Thank goodness John didn’t get the slurping on camera. Was having a time managing my chopsticks! That pastry was an egg filled croisant…still warm from the oven and some kind of delicious! Cool that you took your girls to Mt Washington!
By the way - drove to the top on a 2011 Can AM Spyder RTS-SE5
Even the older models are awesome machines!
What about “Piecost” sightings
I travel extensively and always carry a certain amount of currency for the country I'm visiting. I learned that lesson before ATMs and such, when the high end restaurant I was dining would not accept American Express travelers cheques or cards got a bit embarrassing to say the least. Welcome to Canada hope the remainder of your trip goes well. Keep three wheels down, Stay Safe, Stay Well & enjoy the ride.
Hey John, did you add Ron Jon Sway bars onto your Spyder? I keep hearing others talk about the difficulties of keeping the steering stable but you never seem to have a problem with it. Blessings and safe travels. Also, will your Motorcycle insurance cover you since you are technically in a foreign country now?
Not yet, my research says they are a good idea. Its on the list...
I didn’t think about the currency problem. Do most places take American money or do we need to get some Canadian money when we get there? Thanks again.
We solved the issue fast, so we never asked. Some of the people we watch go all over the world and just hit an ATM,,, Glad it was a defectives ATM
We used Canadian currency…never offered American. We were able to use our credit cards without any trouble. The exchange rate is so favorable for Americans, it felt like everything was on sale.😊
Hi John & Miriam, enjoyed watching another great video while eating breakfast. That train ride looked to be a lot of fun with great scenery.
Glad to were able to access money to eat. Canada would not have been so fun if hungry all the time 😮
Glad to see you made it there safely. Enjoy the adventure.
Ryde safe and God Bless
Artie & Tracy
Thanks guys, hope things are well with you.
