I was born in E. Machias in 1948 we lived in Allagash around 1952
(My dad was pastor of the Baptist Church) in l959 we moved from Contoocook NH (my mother’s and grandparents home town) to Florida following US1 all the way. I have been to Key Wrst a couple of times so yes I have been on every foot of US1.

Funny….with two careers, (U.S. Navy and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service), and even growing up, US 1 has been an important part of my life. Pre I-95, US1 was the way my Dad, stationed at Cape Kennedy, would take us “back home” (he was from PA) on summer vacations. Then on my own, my Navy career (Jacksonville FL, Kings Bay GA, Newport RI, Brunswick ME,) then my USFWS career at National Wildlife Refuges from Savannah GA all the way north to Maine….US1 was always an alternative to the madness associated with semi trucks and tourists on I-95. I am still looking for my dream property in coastal Maine. HELP!
