Saved my bacon with this video. October is always busy for me as well. My garlic is going in after Thanksgiving from now on. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
Good to see you back Chrisy. Look forward to the update on your planter beds. I planted garlic in mid-October here in Eugene Oregon and the sprouts are coming up. I will also mention that I planted large varieties of radish (Seeds from Baker Creek) in October and am enjoying some of the larger varieties. No special treatment to the clay soil here for radish, except a layer of woodchips and leaves in the spring. I am new to the area, so your sage advice is very much appreciated.
I’m so glad I found you! I am also in the PNW…western coastal OREGON. I’ve been looking for someone with a similar climate as we have. I look forward to binging on your past videos and seeing your turkeys! Thank you so much!
Hi Chrisy. My neighbor gave me some garlic starts that he didn't use in December and I planted them in the third week of December (Oregon City, Oregon). The root structure was well established and then I covered them with Timothy hay just in case we got a cold snap. Not only did we have a cold snap but we had 8 days of an ice storm. I will report back in the spring and hopefully we have viable plants! Love your channel btw!
this is super interesting. I live an hour outside of vancouver bc and planted garlic end of November this year. I guess we will see how it goes. I usually plant on the full moon in October
I'm in upstate South Carolina zone 8A and I just planted the majority of my garlic today 11/20, with 20 more cloves to go in tomorrow. I've been planting garlic "late" for 4 years and have always had great harvests of near 100% of cloves producing nice sized bulbs. People worry about "freezes" but it seems the ground temperature is most important and the ground retains the heat for a lot longer than the air does. As long as you have soil that hasn't frozen, that is still easy to work with, I think it is fine to plant it.
I’m in 8b in Alabama and I’m putting in in anyway. I was trying to get it in mid October, but my Great Pyr had a party in my garden, digging out my onions and carrots. Grr!!
October is always so full of surprises so I never have the time to plant it anyways. Sorry to hear about the garden party. I remember one day when the sheep got into the garden- so much damage in such a short amount of time.
I planted my garlic in early October and I’m in same zone but near Olympia. It has already sprouted. I’m worried it won’t overwinter 😬 I’ve never grown garlic so I’m hoping it’ll grow!
That’s totally okay, your garlic will be fine. You can mulch around it if it will give you more comfort, but remember to remove the mulch in the spring so the sun can reach the soil to heat it. Most everyone I know plants in October, I have just always planted later in November/ early December.
Now days, I only grow music but I planted early Dec when I grew Asian garlics and other garlics too. I’m not sure about the hardiness among varieties to be honest.
October is totally fine, you are okay. I was just saying that November and 1st week of December are also okay in case some were worried they missed the window for planting garlic.
I am so happy to see you posting again. I have missed your videos and was hoping you were okay.
Thank you. I had to take a couple months off but I am okay and I am back. Thank you for thinking of me. ❤️

Our climate is amazing but very different than other growing areas (besides the UK). The turkeys are the cutest and love their fans. ❤️

Great info. I was wondering if any particular type of garlic is best for late planting. Thanks for such terrific content.
