I'll swear I once heard a version where the group of animals actually got to the king and told him their story. He said, "Take me and show me where this happened." They led him back to the spot, where he looked around and then burst out laughng. "Could this be what hit you?" he asked, holding up the acorn. He then gave them a little talk about how they were trying to do the right thing, but next time to stop and make sure they have their facts straight before they go off half-cocked (no put intended.) Obviously an excessively cleaned up version.
I actually prefer the version you described. It sounds like it doesn’t paint the situation as black and white, and it gives guidance for what to do instead.

The Disney version literally has mass death on screen as numerous characters are disintegrated. Most of them come back fine later... except Foxy, who is effectively lobotomized and the protagonists decline the aliens offer to put her back to normal because they like her better acting in the exact opposite way she normally would, with one even making her start dating him like this was a completely non-sociopathic dating method.

I also recall a story where HP wanted to bake bread and asked her fellow bird friends to help. None did. So she gathered all the materials and ingredients herself. Then when it was done her friends wanted a piece. She told them no, I made this by myself so I'll eat it by myself. Not as interesting as the other fable but I still liked it.
originally yes. They changed it in the movie because the director said that he thought a boy would be more relatable to audiences than a girl would be. Idk how mysoginistic you must be to think that girls are unrelatable and unmarketable, but this is the result of it.
It's complicated, but chicken is by default associated with females, but it can also be a generic term to refer to both young hens and roosters and the whole species all together.

I literally had something similar happen to me yesterday. I blindly believed someone's version of the story and it made me super anxious. When I finally did some research, I realized my anxiety was irrational. So thank you for posting this. It really resonated with me!
I agree this fable definitely needs to be told more today. You don't have to know politics to see the hysteria building up to benefit certain individuals.
My school did the play when I was in grade school but I didn't get the moral of how mass hysteria can lead to your demise without critical thinking until I was much older.

After listening to each bird, ending with Chicken Licken, the owl walked the group to the tree (where an apple had fallen on CL’s head) and pointed at the apple on the ground. Owl then explained that sometimes you need to ask more questions before blindly believing someone. And get evidence before yelling about the sky falling.
I remember reading a spanish version of Henny Penny but the end only days the fox lead them into a "tunnel" and nobody saw them ever again. With a picture of a fattened fox with a toothpick
I know this comment is very late, but... This also happened in Winnie the Pooh. Pooh and/or piglet found a blue eggshell (the same color as the sky) and thought the sky was falling. They eventually rallied everyone together to try to get high enough to put the peace of sky back, but failed. I don't remember exactly how the conflict was resolved, but I think it had something to do with Christopher Robin showing them the bird's nest the shell fell from.
The first exposure I ever had to the Chicken Little story was one where they were all eaten by Foxy Loxy, though toned down on the gore (it just claimed he called them into the den one by one and ate each of them as they arrived, and in the end, Chicken Little realizing her fate too late). Never really enjoyed the ones where they got away as much after that, funny enough. I really hated the 2005 movie, though, for plenty of reasons -- but as you said, it's messages and morals are a far cry from the original source material.

I think they moral was something like, if you're stupid enough and/or have adhd, you can avoid getting killed like the rational people that you just fooled with your idiocy. Good times.

There's a theory that says that he was one of the boys that turned into donkeys in "Pinocchio". The donkey boys were put into boxes and they got shipped to places. So, it's possible that Donkey got shipped to Shrek's swamp.

Various adaptations of the story are similar to that one and sometimes the helpful king is replaced by your typical wise old owl.
I think I saw one where the animals were all freaking out because the sun was being eaten and then there was a solar eclipse
