    In year 2046, this thing will look as retro as the NES is today. In 30 years progress, the technology of this will be smaller, optimized, and more powerful, meaning AR headsets will be the size of ordinary eye glasses and possibly contact lenses years later. And they will be as mainstream and essential to living in the times as smartphones are today.

      30 years later, people would use an upraded version of this thing. But I fear apple will make a low feature crap and call it iLens, and make it look awesome, and thin, and everybody switches to that, and Microsoft remain where they are now. I wish Microsoft dominate this Lens market forever, (like they are doing for the PC Os market).

      +Caleb Bailey Look up the book feed. (Read it too if you want) It seems like the perfect prediction of what our future will probably be like in 40-60 years. Spring break field trips to the moon, computers implanted into our brains from birth, and mass hackings that leave people brain dead, replacing guns with hacking tools. That will likely be our future in 60ish years

    • @cbaileychamp
      @cbaileychamp 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Deeya Kaur actually there are some levels of encryption that are unbreakable. as in your thoughts. your brain is essentially one giant intracate network of electrical impulses. a computer with bianry code. therefore "hacking" through this level of encryption. although other means of infiltration are possible.

    • @cbaileychamp
      @cbaileychamp 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Deeya Kaur Bitcoins are theorized to be encrypted on the level of bianary code. therefore yes we can encrypt to that level of complexity

      +Arjun Sangitrao Not laggy at all. I got to play with one for a few days at Build last week -- you don't notice any lag even if you violently shake your head.
      FOV is a technical problem cuz the screen it projects the holograms on needs to be completely flat. I'm sure Microsoft or someone else will come up with a better way of projecting the holograms in the future to be able to project it onto a curved surface

    • @BioClone

      No it's completely different. For starters, the 3D is much better. The resolution is also much better for the graphics. The real world itself also looks infinitely better since it is the actual real world, not one seen through a camera. Last but not least hololens actually maps the world around you. 3DS just uses your world as a background for a spherical game.

    I have a jeweller's magnifiers that come on a head set quite similar to the head set shown here. It has the annoying habit of sliding forward with the weight of the lens mount. You can as that shown tighten the loop to grip your head but this uncomfortable and also ends up slipping.
    My solution was to put a metal weight at the back matching the weight of the lens mount . Now it just balances without sliding down on to my nose and does not have to be tight just comfortably snug.

    • @theyungcaboose2324

      Hey, the reason for the pixilation and the bad frame rate or the hololens was simply because they actually had to plug this into a special pc to record this with a screen recorder, where as in a demo by Microsoft they are using specially built cameras that are really expensive to record the use of the device. Also, the device they are using here is a development edition for the general public, where as Microsoft will be using the absolute latest prototype builds. The finished product will be much better than what is seen in this video!

    I understand that they need to set the field of veiw so small so you can see the real world, but they need to make it the enitre lens and then you can adjust it in settings to suit your needs, like say if your house was mostly open and you have a good memory of everything you could make it the full lense and not have to worry about tables or chairs being covered, or if you did have them you could set it to what it is now

    Great info, big thumbs up. I think VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality) are two completely different experiences and aren't competitive. I believe we'll use them in different ways. AR will allow us to interact with our existing environments in amazing ways while VR will allow us to envision completely new environs. I think they're both important and can't wait to see consumer uses for AR.

      Guy with Games Yeah I would only purchase this headset if you are a developer for headsets and/or applications. For an average consumer I would wait until the tech gets better in a few years. This is due to the headset having a small field of view and a slower refresh rate than I’d say it should have. But if you can’t wait I highly recommend a VR headset (HTC Vive or Oculus) to get started with different realities.

      +Jamaar DeBoise Yea. Microsoft and pretty much every big tech company expects developers to shape the products they make. So why can't the make products that consumers ACTUALLY would buy? I'm a developer AND a realist. The FOV problem is what for the most part will limit the sales of this product. (And perhaps its price, but that's totally understandable and not something that really can change) No one wants to experience holograms in a small rectangle. I could imagine myself using this (if the quality and color feedback is fine, which I'm told it is) with a mouse and keyboard, then using the hololens as big monitors,or maybe a large TV in the couch watching a movie. I want to do neither of those with a limited FOV. Never

      +Anthony Abelardo Just like mobile phones graphics 10 years ago. Give this tech a few years and it will be much greater. Think of mobile phones and all their processing power, screen resolution and overall in functionality in 2006 compared to them in 2016 - A top end smartphone reaches the raw power of an average consumer computer from 2006 while acing it in functionality.
      I am super excited for AR and VR technologies, the stuff we see today is so basic compared to what we will see in 10 years.

    • @antdx316
      @antdx316 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael James I agree. Nvidia is releasing a new architecture later this year which is like way higher in scale than their previous generations at time frame segments.
      The manufacturing and engineering is there but they keep milking and drawing out the money milking machine. The graphic processing engineers probably found out the potential of VR and don't want to keep drawing it out for too long. Say they have the plans for 20 years but then they cut it to 10 and because the demand is so high for VR people will have no problem investing in top-end computing graphic processing capability so they invest as much as smart phones every year or 2 then the actual plans get inflated to 40 years as you could never go too fast in VR because more immersion would exist but the reality is, it will happen.

It has been confirmed that the actual release price will be far below this price range, and more on par with the surfaces price, so as not to make it look like a luxury item. If you want to see true quality specs with the latest hardware and software, then check out the Microsoft demos which will show the true quality and sleekness of the device. Also, not shown is that there games like Minecraft available on release that will connect to the windows 10 edition and pocket edition, if you are into that kind of thing.
