Thanks for the great info. I am an actor who has worked on lots of union commercial contracts, and a few non union commercial contracts. Now, I produce commercials that are almost always exclusively web based. I have not been able to convince any brand I have produced for to pay union rates on commercials. Everything is non-union and just about every company seeks a lifetime buyout (not because they plan on using it forever, but instead because they do not have a dept to handle making sure they send checks to actors every year if the commercial is still online in some form.). If you search actors access for non-union commercials, many are only offering $300 or less per day, and that includes a lifetime buyout. The actors that tend to agree to these deals are either actors who are just getting started, or actors who just want to have fun on a shoot. I recently posted a commercial that pays a total of $600 for a day session which includes the buyout fee... and I received over 1000 submissions (all LA based) in the first day.
Wendy and when do you usually get the buyout money? I got the first payment but then I haven't received the buyout yet. And the commercial is already out.
This advice is as precious as diamonds, we need unions to protect are rights and stop us Bering exploited.....working long hours for next to nothing or not Bering paid loyalties when your our of work and struggling to pay your bills and put food on the table when the company you worked for is making a fortune out of your talent. You look very well put together and informative, it I ever come to Hollywood I would love to work with you. Paul Bacchus

About 90% of acting gigs are Non union these days why? Because production companies don't want anything to do with SAG because they don't want to pay more
