I think she loves him, I think it is more about how people react in oppressive societies. Some people it is clear that they’re not OK with it. Others, bury things so deep as a way of protecting their sanity.

She said that those who came back after seven years were different, no longer themselves, so it seems harrowing. She’s scared, but she has decided to make the best of a difficult situation. Her fear of pain has won over her love for her former partner.
imo it’s just she couldn’t love him to the level that he did..cuz if she had, she would’ve gone with him, even at the expense of her being “changed”…imagine going through hard-core grief every 7 years…this sounds un-productive for any community. ✌🏻✨

I thought the mother was so "heartless" talking of her previous relationships and so happy when she matched with a seemingly handsome long haired guy. So sad, she just thinks its exciting and fun. 😢

This would be a great mini-series, with expanded scenes from the "present" interspersed with flashback scenes revealing how and why this method of being partnered with a new mate every 7 years came to be. I found this story fascinating, and would love to know much, much more about this world.

Well this was clear the egg wasn't an ordinary half fry egg. But the way everyone cared for it even put their relationships on risk it was quite disturbing and deserve to grant eggs to all of them so they can make omelette. 😅

Very interesting premise, I could see this being a movie or atleast a mini series of sorts, gave me 'Maze Runner' vibes, 'adhere to the system, or break out'.
I still remember that day,when I was 16, in our local gaming hall,and in walked this gorgeous young man, with ice green eyes, muscular and just out of my league.. then we met again 6mos later through a friend,and the sparks flew. Now we've been together for 24yrs, married for 22yrs. Have three amazing kids,and our kids are almost all adults, and we get to spend time together.. I couldn't have/had been happier.. he saved me from a dark place.. Knowing that you couldn't choose your partner, really is a bizarre thing to me.. and this movie made it even question it more.. That's a very interesting & unique story. I was thinking it's not really horror, but I suppose in a lot of ways it is with all of the subtext and unknown things going on in the background. I would love to see something delve more into the lore of this world. I would definitely read/watch it if it was written even half as well as this.
I’m seeing some odd comments. To me this is an allegory for marriage. 7 years being the usual hardest years to reach, losing your kids, being alone if you don’t choose new spouse, all of us living with 3 and 4 spouses.

I don't understand what the Egg does to poeple. The girl would rather have an unhappy relationship for 7 years than going to the Egg with her former boyfriend.
At the beginning she says that she wants to be with him forever. Even if she went into the egg with him, there was no guarantee of a lasting relationship. She just gave up.
1. This egg could represent religion, sects, ideology, philosophy, family expectations or governments. Basically the completely blind following of some random and arbitrary expectations to the point of not having a choice to whom you want to be with as a life partner. And the fear is also an unknown made-up punishment. 2. At the same time, it represents the disparity of love in a couple, as clearly, the guy loved the girl way more than she loved him. 3. Finally, it represents the way one faces adversity. Either complying in order to save one’s own skin and live miserably, but at least live. Or voice one’s opinion and stand proudly and accept any consequences that come with challenging the official dogma. 4. Maybe, being in the style of sci-fi, it could represent a dystopian future where the powers-that-be have to dictate relationships and child bearing due to overpopulation.
This could be a horror sci-fi if you add the alpha-omega universe lore into it. Imagine a dystopian future where birthrate was zero worldwide and the alien Egg saved the situation by introducing the alpha-omega lore and random marriage in exchange of worship. If Gunnar would have been the omega guy in the sam-sex relationship, no wonder he'd rather be in the Egg. 😂 _______ For those who don't know about the japanese manga alpha-omega universe lore: It's a strictly gerachical universe where alpha people are famous, wealthy, admired and have most important roles in the society. The reason for the same sex relationships could be because they need to find partners for everyone and just pair the remaining people, regardless of them being compatible, counteracting the sinking social interactions due to social media or being online for example. This would maybe help to improve relationships and take care of kids better, by for example adopting one (for homosexual couples).
