It’s sad. I get where you’re coming from, but I think it’s more about fear than betrayal. We don’t really know what the deal is about the egg, but none of it is good. She said that those who came back after seven years were different, no longer themselves, so it seems harrowing. She’s scared, but she has decided to make the best of a difficult situation. Her fear of pain has won over her love for her former partner.

    1. This egg could represent religion, sects, ideology, philosophy, family expectations or governments. Basically the completely blind following of some random and arbitrary expectations to the point of not having a choice to whom you want to be with as a life partner. And the fear is also an unknown made-up punishment.
    2. At the same time, it represents the disparity of love in a couple, as clearly, the guy loved the girl way more than she loved him.
    3. Finally, it represents the way one faces adversity. Either complying in order to save one’s own skin and live miserably, but at least live. Or voice one’s opinion and stand proudly and accept any consequences that come with challenging the official dogma.
    4. Maybe, being in the style of sci-fi, it could represent a dystopian future where the powers-that-be have to dictate relationships and child bearing due to overpopulation.

This could be a horror sci-fi if you add the alpha-omega universe lore into it.
Imagine a dystopian future where birthrate was zero worldwide and the alien Egg saved the situation by introducing the alpha-omega lore and random marriage in exchange of worship.
If Gunnar would have been the omega guy in the sam-sex relationship, no wonder he'd rather be in the Egg. 😂
    _______
For those who don't know about the japanese manga alpha-omega universe lore:
It's a strictly gerachical universe where alpha people are famous, wealthy, admired and have most important roles in the society. Beta people come second while omega are last in the pyramid where omega guys are capable of giving birth (like hens) and are seen/treated like concubines.
    _____

Lmao my Fugoshi ass was not expecting to see A/B/O omega verse mentioned.
I myself was like wait so who’s going to top? 😭
I’ve always wanted to have a writer write within the omega verse , as a way to address / critique a lot of the ridiculous gender standards we have in the world.
All Omega‘s aren’t treated like concubines. It depends on which manwha / manga / light novel you’re reading from. There are many where they treat their partner, with the upmost respect. Love is an illusion is a cute one.

@@usa2tube I don't know mate, how would such a horror scenario as in the movie happen at all? But as you can see, there is a movie about it now. So thinking about the hypothetical origins, this was the only reason that made most sense to me (as artists like to draw attention to actual problems through art). The reason for the same sex relationships could be because they need to find partners for everyone and just pair the remaining people, regardless of them being compatible, counteracting the sinking social interactions due to social media or being online for example. This would maybe help to improve relationships and take care of kids better, by for example adopting one (for homosexual couples).

At least no one is going to be single unless they want to. And while it works like an arranged marriage, it’s only for 7 years.

Seven years is a lot of time to be attached to someone who you don’t care about. It’s 7 years too long.

Sad , a woman with no heart & a community that have no feel. In the end they will be the ones lost to this EGG but eggs can be broken as these folks are. Seems he was the only one left with the courage to do what his heart told him & that's what makes us human with our own choices . In my view he was the lucky one & she will meet her fate with a heavy heart that's like the rest of them , broken forever.

So is this a matriarchal society? It seems that way, since it seems like the women are the only ones in the position of power. Plus the babies are going with the women. It was heartbreaking to watch the father’s faces, as their children were taken from them, as the people they loved or taken from them. I feel like this is a good example of how patriarchal and matriarchal society is as a whole or harmful. You have to include everybody, and that’s why egalitarianism is the only way to go.
I’m only half way through though so maybe my opinion will change.

This is a great example of how people respond differently to oppressive societies. Some people, outwardly you can see that they are in pain. Other people attempt to fall in line, in a way to somewhat protect their sanity. This is truly horrifying, considering our world as a whole in the global north, are moving towards authoritarian government. Although this is an extreme example of a matriarchal authoritarian government, we still have very real things that are happening in our world like this. When people try to push others into boxes, that they simply do not fit in.
