      Wait till you get the rear leaf springs on from them. I have the full system arms coils basic shocks from them and rear leaf springs.40mph thru the dirt with ease. I want to get the pin tops next.

      @@JustDiesels Yeah it took a little of finessing but I was able to get the bolts out on the tank side with out having to drop the tank. In total it took about 3 hours to replace everything it’s just a lot of heavy stuff like everything else is on these trucks.

    The 2nd Gen Cummins is my all time favorite truck. I have an ‘02 that my grandfather bought new. Although he took good care of it, it still needs some love. I’m progressively working on “future proofing” it so that my family and I can continue to enjoy it. I’ve retrofitted it to the updated 3rd Gen steering linkage system, and I’m installing EMF ball joints tomorrow, to my knowledge the EMF’s are the best available for 2nd gens. I was unaware Thuren would be releasing a track bar for these, I would have probably waited, but at the moment the truck currently has the DOR in it. I’m eager to see your video on that Thuren track bar. You do by far the best informational videos on diesels. Thank you!

      @phendrix9476 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m adding much of these same upgrades to my 2nd Gen. It’s great to know what to expect so thanks for the video.
      The EMF BJ’s are incredible. They include the press adapter which is crucial. Got about 60K on mine and they’re one of the best upgrades I’ve added. The free spin kit is great also. I’d be shocked if you ever needed to replace them. Also, zerk fitting orientation is really important.

    I really wish Carli would offer this setup for the 1500 gassers. I've got a 2 door short bed off road package with the 5.9l magnum v8. It's got a completely hand-built 4 inch lift kit on it and 37s, but it's still using the stock front coils with a spacer until I can get the money together for some ORI struts.

    • @JustDiesels
      @JustDiesels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually the 1500 2nd gens use the same overall suspension, so you can fit most of these parts on them! I recommend doing the Thuren XS coils since they’re the lightest rate coil made for these trucks, and would be the best fit for the lower weight of yours.

    My 06 is finally going to be almost complete. I'm ordering 3" springs , sway bar links , from Thuren , upgraded steering, and pittman arm from BD , also threw in a deep trans pan from A T S. I already had Thuren control arms and track bar . Air bags in the back . 35 terra grapplers and an ARB locker . Lol. Almost there.

  • @bigmurph68

    Gotta say that’s a pretty clean and sharp 2nd gen. I sorta redid the front end on my 2nd gen a few years ago and I did Thuren springs, Dodge Off Road control arms ( won them in a contest), Synergy steering and track bar, and honestly forget what sway bar end links I have (I think DT Fab). I notice with my 2nd gen I have the 2nd gen lean (leans over an inch to the driver side front and back). I’ll prob just add a spacer and block front and rear. I wanna add the leafs but the cost is kinda high for me to spend for a 300,000mi (had 80,430mi when I bought it in 2008). I’m enjoying this build and gonna keep a watch on this.

    I can tell you're really lining up a lot of future videos including this truck and that's great. You got the OBS Powerstroke guys roped in with your '97 F-350 7.3 so please show it some love too. I remember seeing and hearing that the transmission was doing old E40D things but once that's sorted out, doing a simple enough RSK would be great or a 99-04 front spring swap and an 08-16 rear spring swap would help too but I would be intrigued to see what you think the best suspension system solution for that is.

    • @JustDiesels
      @JustDiesels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that damn truck has literally spent 8 months at the shop this year with trans issues! Parts availability made it way worse, since there were no replacements available for stuff. I THINK everything is sorted now so that truck will be back on the channel more instead of sitting at the shop! My suspension plan is to do custom front and rear Deaver springs with some nice shocks. Not sure I want to do the RSK as I hate the look of the shackle hanging down, and doing those custom springs should be a huge change in the ride. I’ll figure it out though and make an update video!

    • @hunterbrock2347
      @hunterbrock2347 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JustDiesels well hopefully it is all sorted out. I understand your frustrations to a degree, I bought my '95 F-250 7.3 not really running and brought it home to a shop to have it fixed. Turns out the shop mechanic didn't know his way around a 7.3 Powerstroke very well and he just pushed it off to the side and kept putting everything else in front of it. 6 months went by and I was plenty fed up myself in that the only time I ever drove my truck, it was coasting down a hill, onto a trailer and then off of it when it was home. I ended up limping it from this diesel mechanic to a friend of a friend who turns out he knows the 7.3 Powerstroke very well and ever since, they've been who I talk to when my trucks rough past cocks it's ugly head at me and it lets me down. Now in regards to your F-350, honestly I can't really see how some custom Deaver springs would remedy the harshness of the factory flawed suspension with the front leaf spring shackle going forwards and making the axle jump through forward bumps rather than compress along with the bumps.

      @ShainAndrews 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's called washing it. Mine is almost that clean and it lives in snow, with plenty of mag chloride, and a dirt road that is also packed with mag chloride. If I have to take it out I will pressure wash it off before bringing it into the shop. Getting close to 300k miles... and incredibly clean. So it can be done, just have to keep it clean.

      @@ShainAndrews *wAsHinG, gonna have to tell the folks about this concept, lol.* I hear ya, but the reason I ask, above & beyond, the basic wash/pressure wash is that we noticed that high humidity doesn't help on the drying after the wash (you mention you have a shop) happy to hear you have a place to work/play. Found out some that washed and put them in the garage didn't fair better if the was no ac to get the moisture out (basic ventilation doesn't help around here). Also the Costal air carries the salt everywhere leaving a fresh coat if the wind is right. Did find out recently that some people are having success with saltAway or other products that they use on boats & trialers frames. Y'all have a great New Year!

    • @ShainAndrews
      @ShainAndrews 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@diostejastierras7898 I was going to mention there are products that can aid in neutralizing. My shop can get pretty humid but never lasts longer than maybe 10 hours. High elevation cold temps, low humidity. Frequent washing and frequent under body wax applications when it is clean and dry. Other than that I wouldn't put much faith in. Certainly stay away from undercoating products. They just turn into moisture and salt traps.

    • @JustDiesels
      @JustDiesels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They actually discontinued their 2nd gen long travel bags due to low order volume, but those will work perfectly with your 2012 to get the best of both worlds! Can you do a pure sound video on the 24v?

    • @JustDiesels
      @JustDiesels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah! I tried that on the 1st gen but it never did super well. Those are easy enough to make though!

    Awesome info! Can I ask a favor for a guy that's not too smart, for you to explain in future videos more in detail why oe design is not So good or why it should be replaced with something better than stock and what other companies offer the upgrades but why you went with the company or system you chose. I might be asking too much, and I understand if it's too much I ask for but my brain wants to know why it needs the upgrades or what not, I might be questioning too much, but that's just how my logic works.. anyway I love your channel and your enthusiasm for Mechanical contraptions sush as ram trucks!!!

    New to the channel. Got my first 2gen. Where did you get the yellow fog lights. And can you get them for the second gen. Love those wheels on the second gen. Wish I could something similar. You said they don’t make them anymore.

    • @JustDiesels
      @JustDiesels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lights on top came with the truck from the factory, but you can add cab lights to any truck! As for the wheels, while this exact finish is discontinued, Walker Evans does have a newer version available.

      So funny story, the batteries in this truck were defective and the warranty replacements were on national back order so I haven’t driven it in months! FINALLY got batteries in it last week so I can do an update. Damn back orders suck!

    JD,
    Love ur trucks. Thinking of buying my buddy's 2nd gen 2500 cummins NV4500 Manual. 2 questions:
    1)It has 410 gears, if I put 35s, will it still be geared too low? Don't want 37s.
    2) Can I add side & tailgate black plastic moldings/trim from a '99 to a '01?
    Thanks in advance

    • @wyattlewis8671
      @wyattlewis8671 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would put you just shy of 2100 rpm at 70 mph, but almost 2400 at 80. In my opinion, 1700-2100 rpm is the sweet spot for cruising on these trucks. Too much lower and they start to bog down a bit, too much higher and they get noisy enough that it kind of sucks to drive long periods in them.

    What would be the best Thuren sway bar alternative for a 97 Dodge Ram 2500 12valve. I planned on running the Thuren until I realized I can’t with the cobra style mounts that are on my truck.

    Can you post the stabilizer stock as well. I have a 2001 dodge ram 3500 and am currently working on the front suspension. I'm trying to get the coil springs without the shocks. I have those installed already.

    • @JustDiesels
      @JustDiesels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m running this stabilizer, but it ONLY works with the factory 99 HD steering if you have the cap positioned perfectly! It will not work on the more common factory Y-style steering.

      You don't need long arms until you go over 4" lift . I dont think any of his trucks are over 4"

    Cries in 2wd dually.....hard to find suspension tips to make my truck not suck. Got a redhead pump, but steering slop is still VERY ban....among a literal dozen other terrible suspension and driving issues that makes the truck a horrible experience to operate.

    • @JustDiesels
      @JustDiesels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah sadly those trucks just have no support. Your best option is whatever parts are still available through the dealer, and MOOG to fill in what’s been discontinued!

    So with that thuren sway bar, would you need to use the sway bar links that come with them. I just installed BDD SWAY BAR LINKS on my truck. Can you use those instead?

    • @JustDiesels
      @JustDiesels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah they come with a pretty unique end link to allow for the amount of flex that sway bar and the Carli/Thuren coils and shocks can provide! Sadly yours won’t work!
