  • The charity shops were a struggle today. Prices generally too high for reselling on ebay or the quality of ite.s weren't there.
    Ebay sales have picked up though so I'll show you what's been selling on ebay for profit

    As someone who also flips stuff on eBay, I love watching any kind of videos you put out. I think those of us that do eBay get a certain kind of enjoyment out of videos like these, more so than people that don't do this, regardless of how successful you are in each video.
    These kinds of videos in particular are great when you find stuff, but are also informative for those of us looking out for stuff as you mention how much stuff is worth regardless if you pick them up or not. It's always enjoyable to watch anyway and not only lets us see how you're getting on with eBay, but also gives people like me the extra motivation to get on a do more!
    I think it would be super cool to see more in depth stuff every now and then like the listing and/or packaging process. Maybe even like a vlog style video rather than just these shorter hunting videos. Just an idea if you're not finding much. But I love these kinds of videos so I'd love to see you stick with doing these! 🙂

    Ive been dipping in and out of reselling for a few years. I hadn't realised it was a serious thing!
    By chance i came across reselling video on here around about the same time as have a difference of opinion with my employer.
    I walked out and jumped into reselling full time, i bought a big shed and have been going for just over 3 months.
    Im not earning a fortune but im getting by.
    And most importantly im happy!

    Love the content Ian . The good the bad and the ugly prices where you live are so very expensive . Our charity shops here are split 50/50 cheap and fast moving or slow and holding too much stock!! The cheaper ones are never empty especially on the 50p Saturdays everything absolutely everything is 50p. The other ones try to squeeze too much money so they always end up not getting much trade. I only go into those on occasion to see if they missed anything. It would nearly pay you to get a ferry over and fill a van lol

    Having started my reselling journey off the back of a couple of TH-cam Resellers I use to watch back in 2016/17, I can safely say that the videos are the number 1 reason Charity shops/Facebook Marketplace and some Car boot sellers massively overprice the stock. Because it is shown there is money in reselling everywhere else has realised they can make a lot more money doing it themselves. This is no dig to TH-camrs at all, it just was always going to be a knock on affect. I have seen prices over the past 5 or 6 years especially charity shops!
    Keep up the videos though mate, awesome stuff!

    • @MasterofPieces
      @MasterofPieces  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think youtubers are an easy target for blame in this situation when really the cause is likely much deeper.
      Most charity shops have taken a strategic decision to sell products on ebay before they even reach the shop floor. Its sensible business for them to make the most money out of products. That means volunteers in the stores are already researching the items so they can send the best ones to ebay. That's not video influenced. They're looking most items up already and would be using ebay regardless.
      Its very easy to benchmark new items against what they sell for online. Ebay/vinted/depop provide a good guide to the 2nd hand market of a product. Its still a business decision to price match vs sell cheap in volume... that's not video driven.
      The cost of living crisis may mean more people buy 2nd hand from charity shops. Demand is higher so maybe they up the price as there is competition for the stock.
      Rising inflation means things are generally more expensive too... perhaps the shops are charging more to offset some of that.
      Videos provide awareness that reselling is happening. Why should that impact the price on the shop floor!?
      I think the youtuber influence is more about empowering more people to resell providing more reseller competition... but that's a different topic.

    • @gonnaw1n
      @gonnaw1n 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm just going on my experience since I started dabbling in reselling and watching the videos from 7 or so years ago mate. I saw a clear difference in shop prices before TH-cam videos were getting popular to how they are nowadays. The bigger the charity the more the prices are higher. Yes it makes sense for them to sell on ebay but I believe they didn't realise this until their researchers saw how much people were making from reselling their goods and instead decided to implement the changes so they didn't lose out. Most businesses these days hire people to actively look at social media to see trends that will help business, 1 of which is the reselling community and hence why prices over time have started to go up, this mainly being from TH-cam and Instagram. Remember charity shops were actually started to provide poorer families the chance to obtain items at a cheaper price as well as provide money towards the charity. Obviously reselling has had a negative affect on that aspect for people who needed that service. As a full time reseller I have very much leaned away from charity shops myself but that's personal preference. Like I said before its nothing against TH-cam resellers, if it wasn't for a certain few people posting I wouldn't be a full time reseller who loves what I do. But there are always knock on affects, positive and negative.@@MasterofPieces

    Prices in charity shops are getting ridiculous. I understand theres costs etc to a shop but when you see the same stuff on the shelf for months on end its ridiculous. There was a sat nav in a shop for £34.99. Been there for a few months. Went in one day and it was reduced to £9.99. So i bought it and flipped. Imagine how much money that spot could have earnt the shop over the months if they just lower their prices! I have a mate how has a charity shop for his charity and hes very resonably priced. He done a weekend where everything was £1. He made more money in that weekend than he did for the previuos month. Just goes to show, lower prices, more turn over

    Glad to see your eBay sales have picked up Ian, but bummer about those charity shops. There are always going to be more expensive shops out there, particularly when it comes to clothing, footwear and easily identifiable stuff. But when shops individually price up toys, for example, that would otherwise be 50p each, or CDs/DVDs all priced differently, that's when I feel they're taking the mick. No parent/reseller is going to want to pay £3/4 each for a small plastic animal; that lady is a space cadet! I love these videos though as I'm sure we can all relate to those days where things just don't go our way. Great luck dodging the traffic warden mind!

    i’ve never known a clothing brand that gets overpriced quite like Superdry, nearly every charity shop under the sun charges stupid money for it even though they’re a fairly reasonably priced brand.

      Agreed, charity shops are there to raise money for their charities.
      They would raise a lot more if their prices were sensible, whether its resellers or others buying the end result would benefit the charities more

    • @themoodyteam
      @themoodyteam 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ImARD98 ‘Oh give it a rest’?!?Apologies, but charity shops have their business models, even if they are getting stuff FOR FREE (Joni Mitchell pun there).
      Also, not everything is ‘free’. A lot of shops sell their own stuff, Oxfam is a good example.
      And some of the clothing is bought in.
      There are companies that buy in bulk from recycling centres, sort it and bundle it up into 1 tonne bags which are then sold on to charities. There’s vids on TH-cam of people buying these dumpy bags privately and doing a live opening.
