Lack of accountability is why Positive Only training only goes so far. I'm so happy I found you and definitely following. I will be getting one of those soft sticks. I have three GSDs. One of them is a recent rescue. Until just recently, my 90 pound boy (5.5 years old) was the leader of the pack and my rescue respected his authority. The rescue (about 75 pounds and just over a year) started asserting himself, and today in an intense fight he had the bigger boy pinned on his back and yelping. Looks like there is a new big dog on campus.

Thank you! You have validated what I have been watching between my Malinois 14 m/o female and the German Shorthaired Pointer 4 y/o male, luckily the ecollar stops the bullshit now when each dog tries to dominate the other. Both are submissive but they will try to roughhouse a bit too much or be a bit too dominate for the other dog's mood. I have to be hypervigilant and stop it right when they are initiating the wrong behavior.
Creating learned helplessness is actually an excellent strategy in managing dogs like this. Just like a kid may fear losing their cell phone or iPad for writing with permanent marker on the walls! They don't fear YOU but it is good to have them fear doing a certain behaviour due to consequences so the choice not to do something is MORE reinforcing than the act of doing it. No problem with that whatsoever. Dancing around with cookies isn't productive for behaviours like this in all high drive working breeds, it can work over a longer period of time however, everything the behaviour is rehearsed they are building upon that habit which can be two steps forward and 1 or 2 steps back for months and months, and many clients just don't have that time or energy to maintain that, let alone risk a serious accident that can have severe consequences. This is a different realm for sure than barking, jumping, or just rough play. Love your honest and straight shooter style. You're also very soft when it is appropriate and suitable to the dog too! New to your channel in the last year but I enjoy and resonate with all of it thus far 🥰
I run up to 10 adults together at the same time and do pretty much the same procedure, just need to know the body language and defuse it before it starts the signs can be very subtle but they are always there if you are tuned in to them. If I introduce a new dog it's on neutral ground and I will give them an enclosed run side by side so they can smell and see each other with mesh between them, when they are fine with that then I run them together. I breed my own family of dogs and have done for 50 yrs they a made up of Bull breeds and they a so much more wired than what's shown here, I would never introduce a new dog straight out of the pens while they are in a high energy state, Id give them a burnout on their own to lose the energy then start the process of introducing the new dog. This is my 1st viewing of your Chanel. I have had 2 previous GSD's, One was born fear aggressive and the 2nd mauled twice in a month by fear aggressive dogs which resulted in aggressive behavior towards all dogs and me being hyper vigilant. On November 17th I adopted a 3 yo GSD from a local shelter. He had been in the shelter for 5 months. I wanted to slowly introduce him to other dogs. But in the meantime I tried to begin exercising him using an extra long leash and chucking a tennis ball. There were other dogs in the area at a far distance and it seems each day he was getting more frustrated that he could not get to the other dogs to the point he would only focus on the dogs.. But I did not know yet how he would react up close and it seemed each day he was getting more extreme than the previous day. So I quit doing that and we now walk in a local rec center area around soccer fields for 90 minutes each day. When we encounter other dogs the result so far is always the same, dog goes into drama queen mode. Can you be more specific about the small tell tale signs a fight may break out and more specifics about this soft device you are using to stop an engagement. I am trying to schedule a slow meet and play date with a docile150 lb 9 month old Tibetan Mastiff. I am thinking that may get mister drama queen to think twice. Thanks for any help you can provide.
Absolutely love these kinds of videos. Can you please make a video about how to handle off leash dogs that come up to your reactive dog or when you are hiking and there is a small trail and you encounter off leash dogs coming towards you. How do you handle these situations? Thank you!
I always have that happen! So annoying. I recall my dog, and then always end up yelling out, "please call your dog(s) now!" Sometimes the dog(s) actually listen. Most do not unfortunately. At that point I'll keep walking with my dog and avoid confrontation.
Lol everyone expects your dog to be as friendly as theirs 😂call it socialisation 🙈 Then they'll get offended when I tell them my dogs are not friendly , seriously 😮
I have no idea if it's the right thing to do, but I figure if my reactive dog is leashed and some dog approaches off leash and the owner isn't able to recall their dog, and the dog doesn't listen to growls barks and then lunges, and possibly level 1 or 2 bites, then it's not my problem.
I've had 14 dogs and I've never best my dogs but I have certainly corrected bad behavior AND I've never used an E-collar! Have had a few fights in my 50 years of being with dogs! ( And thank you. I now realize the fights have always been between females!!!! )

Yes this. Ive had it happen in my OWN back yard. I do not have a fence unfortunately
Hahah happens to me everytime it's so annoying and i'm tired of it
Lol everyone expects your dog to be as friendly as theirs 😂call it socialisation 🙈
Then they'll get offended when I tell them my dogs are not friendly , seriously 😮
I have no idea if it's the right thing to do, but I figure if my reactive dog is leashed and some dog approaches off leash and the owner isn't able to recall their dog, and the dog doesn't listen to growls barks and then lunges, and possibly level 1 or 2 bites, then it's not my problem.
thanks for showing us
I've had 14 dogs and I've never best my dogs but I have certainly corrected bad behavior AND I've never used an E-collar! Have had a few fights in my 50 years of being with dogs! ( And thank you. I now realize the fights have always been between females!!!! )
