For backpacking you cannot beat Mt. Whitney and the Sierra Nevadas. Tallest in the contiguous U.S. and the scenery also stands among the prettiest in the U.S.
Done most of the the ap, backpacked in Cali for the first time a couple years ago... had trouble finding water... was a little scary. Also gets very cold at night. Any problems like that on mt Whitney?
