Just followed the same steps with my 60cx and it worked. Note: if you have a new SD card, you need to make a folder called GARMIN to contain the gmapsupp.img file :)
This worked for me only AFTER I discovered there were TWO folders in My Computer that were labeled Garmin GPSMAP 64s (F:). If you open the wrong one, it doesn't have much content in it. But if you open the correct one, it has lots of folders and files in it. THAT is the one to copy/paste your OSM map file into. Yay, it finally worked!
Thanks for the great video. When I turned on this GPS, there was no details on the base map, and main Garmin website is not really helpful, wanting $$ for map download from their site, that almost made me return the unit. Thanks for helping in getting the road map loaded on this unit. Really enjoying it now.
Great video. I got one for Xmas and need to sort it before I take on the Coast to Coast walk in the summer. I have a UK map but it's basic when i zoom right in. Obviously I need detail showing streets etc. , this video helped. Cheers mate.plus I have family in thanet !
sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost my login password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me
I have one Problem. i try to download the hole South America as one Data and North America as one Date too. Can i change the names of the gmappsupp in NA fr (Northa America) and SA ( Souts Amerika) like SA.img and NA.img ? and save it on a micro Sd Card ?
Thanks for that... I'm going to be using my 64s in South Africa in a few months. Have you used yours there and are there any hints you can give me please? Many thanks! Angus
Hello , i found your video to be extremely helpful. However after following all the steps. osm maps does not appear in the map set up window. Any suggestions of what part i may have missed ?
I bought a GPSMAP 64s and it hasn't yet arrived but I'm wondering if I've got the right thing. Can it take me to an address without knowing where it is on a map, like if I only knew the address details (postcode, street name and house number etc)? Something like car drivers use but that works for both walkers and drivers. I hope I've got the right device.
Thanks, great vid. I've done this twice and ended up with two different OSM maps to enable and disable. They appear in the Garmin UI with the same name. I wonder if they can be renamed? Presumably the name you see in the Garmin (I have the same one as you) comes from metadata, not the filename?
Hello! I recently purchased a Garmin 64st and am trying to load OSM on it. I have the maps downloaded, merged all into one and loaded on to Base Camp. I purchased a 64gb micro sd, formatted and loaded in into the device. I plugged the 64st into the laptop and downloaded the updates (I’m pretty sure). In base camp I right clicked the micro sd card and selected install maps, I installed them ALL “on the device“(it took a long ass time)! Well when I turn the device on and go to change map it’s not there! The two options I have are “Worldwide DEM Basemap,NR” and “TOPO U.S.100k v5” What could I be doing wrong? Or are these not compatible with the 64st?
I have a 62s I’m thinking it’s similar to the 64 I followed the steps completely and the map doesn’t come up on my gps, it’s saved on a micro sd installed. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Hi! thanks for the info. do you know, by any chance, how you can find the open map by putting it inside the micro sd? the device just doesn't find it.......thanks in advance for any answer.....
I know this comment is old, but if anyone else is looking for this. Make a folder on the SD card called "Garmin". Put all of the map img files in there, just like he shows on this video (except in the SD Card Garmin folder, not the main unit Garmin folder). Unless the files are in this Garmin folder, the unit will not find them.
i haven't yet but it should work great for that. The map includes offroad routes. You can also use Birdseye from Garmin to include satellite imagery. I use both.
Hellou. Good video. I am thinking about buying a card with all maps inside. It's that really necessary or you I can save the money and use the freemaps? Greetings
The website appears to be broken now.... Its not allowing me to download, and when I request by email it says the wait is approx 597 days to receive a map...
Thanks for the video, although I must admit that I am very dissapointed by my Garmin 66st. I bought that specific one BECAUSE of its preloaded maps, so I wouldn't have to worry about any computer activity. Neverthless, the standard maps it comes with are rather rubbish. Even my cheap phone offers a much better quality. Not to mention the compass failure and the complicated overal operation of this GPS device. I tried to love it for a year now, but just cannot get to that point. I prefer to forget the mispended small fortune on the Garmin and never use it anymore, just in order to enjoy nature computer-free.
Thanks for your informative video, but what I will really need is a degree in IT to use this darn thing...........so much for user friendly, back to my topo maps I think.
I totally agree with you, Neseri2de! I bought a Garmin 66st a year ago and I am still struggling with it. Very anti intuitive and frustrating, the compass never worked and I am not able to get some proper customer service from Garmin. So just like you I got back to my watch, handheld compass and common sense; those are irreplacable and never spoil the nature experience like Garmin does.
Hi dudes! Does anyone know if this still works? I'm getting nowhere. the first problem is this message at the top of the OpenStreetMap page which says: "Sorry, due to server problems only country maps are currently available. You may need to refresh the browser cache first (CTRL-F5)." Refreshing does nothing. I entered my email to download it directly then received a link which I followed and then got the following message: "This request is #145892 in the queue. The delay is approximately 607.9 days." (wtf?). Any ideas?? Cheers :o)
Old post but figure i ask. I think newer generation of maps are .gpx . Unfortunately i don't have yet one of these garmins, and curious if the are supporting other map formats. Not interested in city maps but more for bikepacking wilderness maps.
Good afternoon! Tell you charge storage batteries through usb port of a computer? 64s purchased from me today. When I connect through a computer shows the usb badge it is connected - there is no charge indicator. And that as I learn that storage batteries were charged? Storage batteries are same, as at you. Or every time it is necessary to pull out them from the navigator and to put them in the battery charger? How many you load them on time and I have that charging without energizer indicator universal. Sincerely
mikolka they have it set up so you have to use the garmin branded battery pack as there is a little button under the battery that must be held down to charge if you are using rechargable aa batteries you must ether put some plastic under them or you must tape the together so as to depress the button i have heard this voids the manufacturer warranty

Great video. Are these maps the actual OS ones with the rights of way and footpaths?

Are the keys backlit?thanks

Do you have to put the OSM maps to your device?, i thought you have to get the maps via Garmin Express. Thanx
