    Awesome series! As a carpenter that can no longer work due to health problems this series had been an absolute joy to watch..along with all your other videos. Keep em coming. 👍 Great work.

    Hi Robin. haven't tuned in to 'the Big Build' for a few weeks now and its certainly progressed since I last tuned in when you were still waiting for all the plumbing to finish before you could crack on with the plasterboard. looks great now I must say. I always have so many questions but what tends to happen is that as you move along through the video you tend to answer most of my questions before the video is over. Which is what makes your videos so instructive to watch. Thanks Robin.

    Perfect timing as I'm working on skirtings and architraves in my home today (just stopped for a coffee) for the first time ever, got the confidence to try it myself now in no small part to your good self and all the effort which goes into these videos.

    Treating your stages like a process makes it all much easier to organize. Don't fix one door at a time, fix them all in one go, much better. I like to do one pilot/test run on an out of sight situation, when doing sets of fixings.

  • @daniel__clark
    @daniel__clark 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I would have thought all of the door openings would have already been decided as it would have dictated which side the light switch is on; nobody wants to reach around a door to find the light switch. Am I missing something?
    Love the content. Hopefully you have something else lined up for when the big build is complete.

    • @robhamtom
      @robhamtom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your correct. As an electrician i want to know exactly which side to install my cables and back boxes during 1st fix. Of course the client can change their minds later but this would be a real pain for us.

    Robin. Is there a video with the floor plan of the big build, it seems this is a 2 bed property but I may be wrong.

  • @doodons
    @doodons 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hi Robin, surely you would check with the client which way you want the door to swing before you second fix, as the door could potentially be against the light switch, great videos by the way 😀

    • @ericmcrae7758
      @ericmcrae7758 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Did you watch this video? The first thing Robin says is he walks round with the client deciding which way the door opens and marks the hinge side. The electrician puts the switch to suit not the other way round.

    Do doors open towards the wall or towards the middle of the room? Are there any regs or specifications that say which way it should open? I don't mean the door opening inside the room or outside towards the hall but rather which way inside the room

    • @pdv6815
      @pdv6815 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're an American brand called Diamondback. You can create your own set up by buying different pouches, belts, and braces etc but, they're not cheap. Looking at a UK site the price for the pouch Robin's wearing on his left is £112 , braces £128, belt £132, and the small pouch on his right hip £102. I can't make out what hammer loop he's wearing but, the cheapest would take the cost of his rig close to £500.

    Laminated boards for bathroom walls? How does that work? Or is that going to be covered up?
    I would like to know about the waterproofing/bathroom stage on this build. Somebody else mentioned plastering. Even uncut, unedited videos are fine - with a bit of a voice over
