    The popularity of AirTags amongst criminals is testament to how good these tracking devices are. Indeed, in the case of stalking incidents, 24hours is a long time to be notified that an unknown device is tracking you. Conversely, if you have an AirTag hidden in your vehicle as an anti-theft device, you don't want the device notifying the thieves that an unknown tag is tracking them!

    • @JohnSmith-pw3yw

      I think Apple should act like 'arbitrator' and fog out the airtag pending safety check with inmediate effect.

    It should be made mandatory for air tags to be linked to an Apple ID and users getting the notification of being tracked should also be get the Apple ID details of the associated air tag. That way, at least the actual owner of the air tag can be identified.

      Not workable if they sell as many as they plan to. You must hit 100rfid scanners and tags just walking down a street. Hell even your payment cards are traceable from 40m away. So the tags mean very little. Apples tracking service is what needs adjusting and as said if it's linked to a bank account np.

      10 minutes might be too short. The unknown AirTag would have to be moving with you for some time. I think it should send a notification in under an hour if an unknown AirTag is moving with you. Not what it currently is which I think it's 24 hours and that is too long. Then the person can take the battery out.

    Apple cloud can easily vector in the distance and GPS of an Airtag to the host device and the non host devices. If they are unusually located and following a particular non host device they must notify the non host device and immediately fog out the airtag from the host pending investigation.

  • @omarrochet
    @omarrochet 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It’s not a gps tracker, you can only see the location of the object is near you at Bluetooth distance which for the Air Tag is around 300 feet radius (less if there are walls or concrete). Not an effective stalking tool.

      Apple gave her a notification saying that the Airtag tracked her through her own iPhone, that's how these devices work.

    • @epender
      @epender 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@pray01121976 It is, as soon as it sees another iPhone, it updates the owner of the Airtag with a location. Hell, people have managed to track parcels around the world with it, what makes you think it won't be able to track someone's own movements, even if it's only for a short time until it is discovered.

    • @epender
      @epender 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@pray01121976 No it doesn't? If so it would be useless until you enter the same room as the tag. From Apple's own website: "Your AirTag sends out a secure Bluetooth signal that can be detected by nearby devices in the Find My network. These devices send the location of your AirTag to iCloud - then you can go to the Find My app and see it on a map." Note how it says "devices" and not just "your device". Also note how it describes "network", suggesting it's not just your personal device(s). It's clear from reviews and footage of people using the Airtag that other devices update the location to the owner.

  • @Miamcoline

    Can we just acknowledge that this was only noticed because Apple notified the user that a bluetooth enabled device seemed to mirroring her every movement for several hours. As the report itself admitted, with Android, you never would have known because you have had to have downloaded a third party app to be notified. And with alternative devices which have existed at least since 2014, there is no chance they would warn you. This is not an apple problem. Also the technology reporter seems to give the exact same advice as Apple. It's a challenge that we face now that such a technology exists and we have to be clever in how we respond to the challenge.

      RFID signals are everywhere and in most of our products now (even vacuum water bottles have a chip inside). It is absolutely apples problem as they enabled the system of allowing every other person's phone to report those locations back to apple and allow users to tap into that data. It is a 100% apple problem.
