I remember in elementary school whenever an adult said someone dark skinned was pretty people would laugh. I mean host do we get that ingrained that dark skinned automatically equal ugly. And only light eyes get compliments and ohhh and ahhhh over. I see very pretty dark eyes but no one says nothing about that. Some people act like a black person with light eyes is like finding a unicorn.

One thing I noticed with a lot of gay web series is that it makes it seem like gay males are overly sexualized. They put sex and being sexy out to the fore front. Its never about a man going to school and his experiences like Different World was but maybe with gay males. You usually dont see that.Its always shirt less, nice bodies, gorgeous faces and hook ups. So I do hope you create something where we can maybe see your experiences and how it really is. I would love to see that.
I understand exactly what you're saying. I would like to see more variety in web series and such too. I used to watch Noah's arc and i remember seeing a dark skinned character who wasn't fat but wasn't exactly muscle bound but he was still attractive. I'm a dark skin guy who was obese for most of my life (almost 300 pounds only 5'8) and even though i'm 165 now --i'm still struggling with my self esteem and the damage that was done to me over the years. Honestly, at 30 i'm starting to like what i see but still don't feel comfortable with the gay scene because of how superficial they can be but i'm learning to move past that. I've still never had a boyfriend and guys still reject me unless it's about sex .Honestly, i've learned that it's always going to be something someone is not going to like---you can't fit into everyone's dream. I'm not for everyone and everyone is not for me and i'm actually beginning to be ok with that. overall, it takes a smart person to see past the many "ideas" the media tries to spin on us. Not every man with muscles is attractive and there are plenty of men who are dark skin that are just as attractive as white and other . Features and self presentation are what makes someone attractive not a skin color---at least, this is what i've learned. In conclusion, media is sex and image based---that's what they claim sells but honestly i beg to differ. It would be nice to see real people on TV once and for all. I'm currently working on a comic book project about a rock star who is gay and black and this comic is not going to be focused on sexuality but more on seeing people as people.

Colorism in the black community is a really serious problem and people tend to sweep under the rug instead of admitting that its a big issue I'm a dark skin female and its like you have to work a thousand times as hard but in the end you will always will feel like you aren't not good enough because your not light skin, biracial or racially ambiguous.
In a conversation, my dad recently said, "Can you imagine being a baby and that dark like *shudders*?" (referring to dark Afrrican babies) and I had to correct him. There's nothing wrong with being dark and you can be a cute dark skin baby too.

Everyone looks the same/likes the same things because we've been gentrified to accept just one standard of beauty, and it's very sad. This topic is so true not only in the gay community but in life in general. My best friend was thick and is dark skin and gay. He had the same problem he didn't feel like he fit in with the image. He lost a whole bunch of weight and changed his wardrobe. He is happy on the outside but the inside is still damaged from that. Saaaaame!!!!! I really liked it at first, but after a while it became eh (season 3)... Also I really didn't like how the butch lesbians basically categorized themselves as men, and tried to stereotype the other women because they were femmes. There were scenes when Rae would say stuff like "a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do," and saying stuff like "you females are so emotional." Like, huh?? Did your vagina get lost somewhere? You're on a show called between _women,_ what is all this man shit?? And I understand trans, and that's fine, but I felt like they devalued femininity to affirm and validate their masculinity, which was some heteronormative, binary bullshit (sorry for the rant lol)

I would go with a black guy or asian or any other race but I would probably be more inclined to go into a relationship with a white man because I am white and that is my preference. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. It doesn’t mean I exclude anyone, I just prefer people of my own race. Justin, unabashed colorists are a blessing in disguise. The word "preferences" is often incorrectly used. There is nothing exclusionary about having a preference, e.g. "I prefer to date men who resemble Morris Chestnut, but I'd still go on a date with those who look like Shemar Moore." What most really mean and may not even truly know it, is they're into people who look as far away from black as possible. Consider yourself spared, because you truly are. Never date someone who hates themselves.

Interesting video. I saw a flier on Facebook for some type of gay event (sex party basically). The requirements to attend were be attractive, no fats (don't be obese), no fems or you will be turned away. I'm not fat or fem and I'm a handsome guy. But I was very offended my that and was highly over the Black gay scene.

After listening to the rest of this, I think you spoke a lot of truth here, Justin. A lot of these gay web-series' I don't even watch. I want to because I want to support anything gay and black, as I think we need to be represented much more in the media, but I just CAN'T! The story-lines are all the same and 95% of it is about sex and lust, and that becomes pretty boring when it gets run in the ground. Like where is the actual STORY? Plus, the acting is usually pretty poor; just being honest. But they're trying, so I don't judge them too harshly. The reality shows are usually the same old storyline about reading, shading, and materialism. I can say that "The Boyz Next Door" is a little different from the rest. I never get bored watching that series; it's well casted and put together, production and editing wise. And I've seen a few great short stories on TH-cam. Even the DL: Chronicles was really good when it was running...very professionally done. We just have to be professional and inclusive/relatable with our productions and we'll have no problem holding people's attention. And I can really relate to what you said about not fitting in. It's why I don't post a lot of pics or go to a lot of events. I'm even feeling nervous about this big gay event I'm to in a couple of months because of the same reasons. Gay people, in particular, are often so bougie and snobbish that it'll make you feel very intimidated and unworthy if you don't have what everyone thinks you should have.

I, honestly, don't know where you are seeing all of these 6 ft, chiseled, tattood, light-skinned, "masculine" men in these web series', but I would like for you to show me. To me, it looks like 90% of gay men, in the media, are portrayed as effeminate. I, as a masculine gay male, have always felt left out because all I see are eccentric, exaggerated depictions of gay men. There are only *two* gay web-series' I can think of that actually have some men who are masculine, and that is "DL Chronicles" and 'TBND' series, and TBND series also has a variety body types. Other than that, all I see is effeminate (and "in-between") men. I wonder if you guys who are more effeminate or darker skinned would have a problem if every single gay man in media was feminine and/or dark skinned. Is it that you just want everyone to look like you so you don't have to feel insecure? You guys do have to give as much acceptance as you are asking for... I remember in elementary school whenever an adult said someone dark skinned was pretty people would laugh. I mean host do we get that ingrained that dark skinned automatically equal ugly. And only light eyes get compliments and ohhh and ahhhh over. I see very pretty dark eyes but no one says nothing about that. Some people act like a black person with light eyes is like finding a unicorn.

One thing I noticed with a lot of gay web series is that it makes it seem like gay males are overly sexualized. They put sex and being sexy out to the fore front. Its never about a man going to school and his experiences like Different World was but maybe with gay males. You usually dont see that.Its always shirt less, nice bodies, gorgeous faces and hook ups. So I do hope you create something where we can maybe see your experiences and how it really is. I would love to see that.
I understand exactly what you're saying. I would like to see more variety in web series and such too. I used to watch Noah's arc and i remember seeing a dark skinned character who wasn't fat but wasn't exactly muscle bound but he was still attractive. I'm a dark skin guy who was obese for most of my life (almost 300 pounds only 5'8) and even though i'm 165 now --i'm still struggling with my self esteem and the damage that was done to me over the years. Honestly, at 30 i'm starting to like what i see but still don't feel comfortable with the gay scene because of how superficial they can be but i'm learning to move past that. I've still never had a boyfriend and guys still reject me unless it's about sex .Honestly, i've learned that it's always going to be something someone is not going to like---you can't fit into everyone's dream. I'm not for everyone and everyone is not for me and i'm actually beginning to be ok with that. overall, it takes a smart person to see past the many "ideas" the media tries to spin on us. Not every man with muscles is attractive and there are plenty of men who are dark skin that are just as attractive as white and other . Features and self presentation are what makes someone attractive not a skin color---at least, this is what i've learned. In conclusion, media is sex and image based---that's what they claim sells but honestly i beg to differ. It would be nice to see real people on TV once and for all. I'm currently working on a comic book project about a rock star who is gay and black and this comic is not going to be focused on sexuality but more on seeing people as people.

Colorism in the black community is a really serious problem and people tend to sweep under the rug instead of admitting that its a big issue I'm a dark skin female and its like you have to work a thousand times as hard but in the end you will always will feel like you aren't not good enough because your not light skin, biracial or racially ambiguous.

Yessss Justin! I am with you. So many of these stories are just lackluster and lazy! And in the lgbt community, the colorism is soooo real. Everyone looks the same/likes the same things because we've been gentrified to accept just one standard of beauty, and it's very sad. The world is so beautiful and so diverse and that we close ourselves off to so much of it is tragic. I'm of the mentality now wherein if you cannot be bothered to try and represent any of the groups I am apart of, or cannot try to represent any one else and be inclusive to more than a particular archetype, then I cannot be bothered to support you with my viewership or revenue. Since I been seeing the promo photos for the new season of Empire, I began to question the same thing. No one would be as interested in that show if the Lyon men were dark skin. The only brown skin person in there family is Cookie and she's not even dark.

This topic is so true not only in the gay community but in life in general. My best friend was thick and is dark skin and gay. He had the same problem he didn't feel like he fit in with the image. He lost a whole bunch of weight and changed his wardrobe. He is happy on the outside but the inside is still damaged from that. It is society that makes people feel like if you don't have that perfect imagine then you aren't shit. Every time a picture is posted of gabby you should see the disgusting comments people post about her. We as people in general need to be more supportive of each other.

There were scenes when Rae would say stuff like "a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do," and saying stuff like "you females are so emotional." Like, huh?? Did your vagina get lost somewhere? You're on a show called between _women,_ what is all this man shit?? And I understand trans, and that's fine, but I felt like they devalued femininity to affirm and validate their masculinity, which was some heteronormative, binary bullshit (sorry for the rant lol)

I would go with a black guy or asian or any other race but I would probably be more inclined to go into a relationship with a white man because I am white and that is my preference. Justin, unabashed colorists are a blessing in disguise. The word "preferences" is often incorrectly used. There is nothing exclusionary about having a preference, e.g. "I prefer to date men who resemble Morris Chestnut, but I'd still go on a date with those who look like Shemar Moore." What most really mean and may not even truly know it, is they're into people who look as far away from black as possible. Consider yourself spared, because you truly are. Never date someone who hates themselves.

Interesting video. I saw a flier on Facebook for some type of gay event (sex party basically). The requirements to attend were be attractive, no fats (don't be obese), no fems or you will be turned away. I'm not fat or fem and I'm a handsome guy. After listening to the rest of this, I think you spoke a lot of truth here, Justin. A lot of these gay web-series' I don't even watch. I want to because I want to support anything gay and black, as I think we need to be represented much more in the media, but I just CAN'T! The story-lines are all the same and 95% of it is about sex and lust, and that becomes pretty boring when it gets run in the ground. Like where is the actual STORY? Plus, the acting is usually pretty poor; just being honest. But they're trying, so I don't judge them too harshly. The reality shows are usually the same old storyline about reading, shading, and materialism.
I can say that "The Boyz Next Door" is a little different from the rest. I never get bored watching that series; it's well casted and put together, production and editing wise. And I've seen a few great short stories on TH-cam. Even the DL: Chronicles was really good when it was running...very professionally done. We just have to be professional and inclusive/relatable with our productions and we'll have no problem holding people's attention.
And I can really relate to what you said about not fitting in. It's why I don't post a lot of pics or go to a lot of events. I'm even feeling nervous about this big gay event I'm to in a couple of months because of the same reasons. Gay people, in particular, are often so bougie and snobbish that it'll make you feel very intimidated and unworthy if you don't have what everyone thinks you should have.

People are so wrapped up in the makeup, the bigbutt and the overstyled fashions and the weaves tend to forget all these things are trends and trends come and go.
Its going to come a time where the basics of beauty and style are gonna be in again and will stay around longer than these trends that are being overemphasized now partly due to the transgender life, people are gonna want to know who is actually authentic as the person they are presenting themselves to be.

I, honestly, don't know where you are seeing all of these 6 ft, chiseled, tattood, light-skinned, "masculine" men in these web series', but I would like for you to show me. To me, it looks like 90% of gay men, in the media, are portrayed as effeminate. I, as a masculine gay male, have always felt left out because all I see are eccentric, exaggerated depictions of gay men. There are only *two* gay web-series' I can think of that actually have some men who are masculine, and that is "DL Chronicles" and 'TBND' series, and TBND series also has a variety body types. Other than that, all I see is effeminate (and "in-between") men.
I wonder if you guys who are more effeminate or darker skinned would have a problem if every single gay man in media was feminine and/or dark skinned. Is it that you just want everyone to look like you so you don't have to feel insecure? You guys do have to give as much acceptance as you are asking for... But I do get what you're saying, for the most part, and I agree. Gays tend to be very shallow and superficial...especially the men, as we're already very primal creatures.
I also agree with you about the light-skinned craze. Gay black men (IDK about lesbians because I'm not a gay female) do tend to be obsessed with light-skinned men, but this colorism has been a problem within the black community, in general and at large, for a very long time; it's not just the gays. Us black people still have this color complex going on that really is troubling/annoying once you grow up and realize how very ignorant and shallow it is. I've seen some beautiful black men, in my life, who were from an almost snow-white complexion to as black as burnt charcoal at mid-night, and I never thought "if only he was lighter" or "if only he was darker" because their complexions fit them so perfectly...and that's the way everyone would see it if they were really mature.
the gay community is the gay white community. lets just be real. and when gays are black and promoted they are usually overly fem, and they are racially ambiguous or light skin.this is coming from a brown skin man. its boring. ive always dreamt of writing my own series that can bring about GREAT ACTORS.

When you was talking about Gay web series,I automatically thought about The Triangle. Cause that's all you see on that shit. Cause like the show Free Fall is a good show but they been bullshitting with they damn storylines lately and the show is all over the place.
