    Quote:
This CD comes from a live 1975 concert by the Bill Evans Trio, which was broadcast by Radio Suisse in Switzerland. The pianist is in superb form, joined by longtime bassist Eddie Gomez and newcomer Eliot Zigmund on drums. The sound is excellent, without the annoying announcers or distortion, so this release could have very well been produced from the master tape itself. The set is wide-ranging, including both recent and older compositions by Evans, "Gloria's Step" (the best known work by former Evans sideman Scott LaFaro, who died far too young), along with standards like a buoyant "My Romance."
The leader's treatment of his ballad "Turn Out the Stars" is rather upbeat, while his somewhat avant-garde composition "T.T.T.T." (also known as "Twelve Tone Tune Two") is a modern masterpiece. Perhaps the greatest surprise was Evans' inventive treatment of pop singer Bobbie Gentry's "Morning Glory." The only real problem with this CD is the sloppy composer credits on two numbers. This 1990 release may be somewhat difficult to find, but it is one of the better bootlegs issued under Bill Evans' name."

Bill Evans' "Sugar Plum" is one of the most inspiring piano compositions I've ever heard. It is a rare jazz composition that literally cycles through all 12 keys (Gmaj7, F Maj7, Gmaj7, D-7, G7, Cmaj7+Same Progression in a New Key).

      Thanks for your harmonic appreciation.
I prefer his darker ballads Turn Out the Stars & Time Remembered

Bill and Eddi also worked out "12 Toned Tune" which does the same thing.

Thanks Bernie for this recording. I've been a disciple of Bill's since 1960. Elliot Zigmund is my favorite drummer that Bill used.

    Bill Evans. Always great.
I have not been disappointed with any of his works. My regret is not having accepting him earlier; misconception that trio just backing, rhythm section. Was more into horns and guitar. Well, I've learnt my lesson. What wonderful music he plays.

Since becoming an Evans fan, which was decades ago, I rarely listen to horns. Chet Baker, mostly, when I do. Some Trane, or Coleman Hawkins. Smooth players. But for the most part, I can thank Bill Evans for my love of piano led jazz. He is the absolute best.

This concert originally came out 30 years on a Swiss bootleg album (from the original tapes, stole at the Swiss radio) with a much better sound than this one.
