I definitely found myself salivating over these newest Apple releases. You really have to catch yourself and remember that's exactly how they want you to feel. Thanks for the reminder, Matt.

Do what though? He’s only doing it for a month (and that’s if it’s even true, we don’t know what happens behind the scenes) He’ll be back to the iPhone and be chained to it like the rest of us.
Phones can be very powerful tools, but also terrible distractions. And it can be addictive! I started to decide to leave my phone only in a certain room at home and only use it there (definitely NOT in the bedroom). It really helped me to become more aware of how I use it and it increased the quality of my sleep!
Haven’t had a Facebook in 10 years and I’m completely off social media. I feel so free and me and my wife are thing of switching to flips and different provider and not the big three ATT,Verizon, sprint.
my daughter, at 17 years old, now 18, gave up her smart phone for a flip phone too... her idea. seriously, talk about an enlightened kid. AND.... an oh sooo proud Mama, i am.
Do it..You wont regret it. its a little hard at 1st and friends and family will think its weird. But you will truly be free from the slave device and become more aware of whats really important in life.
I just keep my friend list down and snooze anyone who rants instead of sharing. I still prefer messenger because it has cute stickers. I still use my iPhone 6. I hate the waste that upgrading phones creates. My phone is used mostly when I’m out of the house. I use my iPad at home and use it mostly for benefit. I help my husband in his lawn maintenance business, love hiking, exercise, and have a ton of hobbies.
I wish I can delete my messengwr though I can't because its wherr we are supposed to talk about group projects and its where we do announcements but I did delete fb
You posted this comment 10 months ago, so I’m super late😅 but I’m glad too! I’m thinking of finding the phone I always wanted in 8th grade lol the razor 🫶🏽 I’m over social media tbh
I mean same could be said about most things about life, what matters is what value that glass gives, mathematicians spend their life looking at tree barks and writing with white stones if that's your point.
I can't afford a real phone. I have a flip. Nevet been happier. I'm not happy now, I'm incredibly depressed and really poor, I've just never been happier! 😂
1. What's the one thing you like most about the personal development niche and Matt's videos? 2. What kind of videos would you like to see more on TH-cam? I'm doing a bit of research and I'd appreciate your help. Thank you so much.
"Why do I need this?" Well, you don't. You've been conditioned to think that you need to spend a thousand dollars every year on a new phone when the one you bought last year still works just fine. People are brainwashed to believe that they need this in their life as if they will be missing out on something. The same way people buy the new COD or Madden games EVERY YEAR. even though the games change very little if at all. You dont need a new phone every year. You're being conditioned to think that you do. I had an iphone SE for years without issue. The only reason I upgraded my phone and ipod was because they made it so neither of them would work properly anymore. They became obsolete. The phone wasn't working properly. the ipod wouldn't connect to itunes anymore. I was forced to upgrade. It's all a scam.
I used some Motorola phones for the past years like the G5 and the G7! The only reason that I upgraded my G5 is that it's had a crack on the screen and was bleeding out color real bad so I got rid of it and got myself a G7. Both of them cost about $250ish bucks since I got them with being 3 years apart from buying them. And yes, they are my most expensive phone that I paid for and honestly it's not worth it... The G7 is my last Smartphone that I would buy before strictly buying these "Dumb phones" for cheap. I just want to use a phone AS a phone, Headphone jack to listen to music that I have it installed on the phone and calling personal people. I despise social media and thank god I don't have a Twitter or a Facebook! Too much fucked up shit on there to see that is filled with Assholes or morons. I'll gladly keep my sanity thank you.
Well the iPhone 6sPlus I bought for nearly $1000 beginning of 2016 still works perfectly, no lag. Its battery is at around 69-70% tho. I guess these iPhones last a long time. An iPhone 7 I got from my dad has lagged quite often but It's still fine.
I still have my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Still works. I bought it when they first came out. That will tell you right there how long I've had this phone. ONLY buy another phone when the current phone you have no longer works or functions properly. Save your money or spend that extra money on something productive.
The scary thing is smart phones have only been around for 12 years. Imagine the effects technology in 30 years. It’s only going to get worse and worse. Like WALL-E.
It always goes down the hill, hopefully we will learn from our mistakes and do better, concentrate more on the important studd amd use technology only for meaningful sruff. Unfortunately many people use social media as their jobs and now while many people have to work from home it's kinda loop
I made a video about using a flip phone for 30 days about a year ago! It had its challenges. No GPS and not being able to Google things was hard. I used an old iPod to listen to music (which forced me to listen to old songs from the 2000s). I found myself calling people a lot more because texting was painfully slow. And not being in group chats meant I was somewhat out of the loop. But it was very refreshing getting off of social media and disconnecting. I began checking my phone every couple of hours instead of every 10 minutes. Can't wait to see what you take away from the experience Matt!
@Raphael Oliveira that's a better solution than downgrading to a flip phone, because it's important to have the extra features of the smart phone in case of emergency like checking the map to know your location if you got lost
@@999a999a Back in the old days we used to look at street signs and maps and even asked real people to help us if we got lost... There are probably still street signs but much less people since the corona "situation" hit.⛔🚸⤴️➡️ 🛣....🚶♀️
@Hector Mata, mostly through tyranny... One species the king of terrible lizards really, earnt the name Tyrannosaurus Rex. Judging by my text books, flip phones would have been a challenge for them. Shortly after them, mammals invented democracy and the rest is history.
I did something similar and downgraded my iPhone. I only have 4 apps on my Home Screen: messages, calls, safari, email. Stripped it back to more basic uses. I have no social media accounts, no reddit. To be honest, I don’t miss any of it. I’m enjoying not having the constant distraction of opening and checking a collection of media apps over and over again throughout my day.
I'm with you bro, the only external apps I have on my samsung s6 are Sam Harris' guided meditatinos and Spotify. Have you treid putting your phone in greyscale? makes the phone a lot less addictive
Have to agree with you here, phones are tools, you chose how to use them, I just got rid of all my social media apps and it's gone back to being a tool I use for calls, messages, music, books etc.
Sweet work. On my Android phone I use the Indistractible Launcher. No icons. No clour on any screens. Everything is presented as lists. When I am away with work I turn everything monotone as well. The only notifications that are allowed to get through are from the 'Long Haired General' (the Wife).
There's a really good book about exactly this topic: Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport. He goes into much detail and gives lots of practical guidelines. Really recommend it.
Not as much of a flex as it looks. Most drug dealers use burners like that and lmfao you dont wanna emulate breaking bad homie. Trust me. From someone whos went from cookin to sellin it, it ain’t that glamorizing. I snorted a line off a knife like tuco n i gotta say, wasnt as cool or satisfying as it looked.
Im about to do it! I'm currently taking care of my mental health, and i saw people down grading to older phones and i'm so excited to do it, because i didn't think that could be possible... wish me luck
The Nokia 8110 4G and the Nokia 2720 both have KaiOS a Linux operating system. They have 4G data, and streaming apps. You can’t use Netflix but you can listen to podcasts, use Google assistant and Google Maps. A good way to go dumb phone without losing important features
I see a bigger problem here: Our economy needs to change. We can not measure our growth at the GDP and force the consumers to buy buy buy! There has to be a sustainable component to it! The feel good wealth of a community, nation, continent needs to be given value! Because after all, our economy pushes the 4 or 5 releases of Apple, Samsung and others every year, as we need to consume and buy buy buy! :( This kills our planet. Very fast!
@Cesar Gomez this is totally fine, at some point an upgrade or buying something is totally fine. Even I gotta admit I upgraded from my iPhone 7 to the 12 Pro now, as I didn't want to change the battery for the 3rd time. My mother will be more than happy to to upgrade from her phone to my iPhone 7. I personally (! (don't want to accuse anybody here)) see the problem in the Zara shopping cycle community, where every 2 weeks new products are being displayed and people really get those new products every time! Also Zara is just an example, which describes it pretty well tho! It is time to take out the speed a bit, let the nature re-grow, maybe learn to fix something instead of just ordering a new one and so on! Happy to discuss! :)
I feel like we are in an extreme of capitalism right now where people buy more than they can spend time with it and companies produce more than we actually need.
Not our "economy" - our advertising rules and regulations. Outlaw micro targeting and excessive tracking algorithms. Like being used on us... on this very site.. but clearly matt D would rather you downgrade your phone than point out how youtube ads is the real problem.
There's no rule that you have to use phones just for cheap entertainment. You... you realise how useful they are? That's got nothing to do with the product, it's got to do with the user of the product and the way they decide to use it.
@@butterflyexists very true! But its kind of like when youre on a diet and you see a brownie. The temptation of having all of this at your fingertips might be too much for some ppl to be disciplined enough to say no.

I had a flip phone up until 2017. The minute I got an iPhone I was hooked, no joke. Currently on month one without social media (only youtube and streaming). Gotta say, I have never been so productive, and all my interests in hobbies are coming back since I basically don’t have anything to check 24/7. Totally recommend.
@@ill2daMAX Sort of. Not in the same way as Facebook or like apps. I only use a tablet, no smartphone. I’m not on Facebook or other social media. There are a few places I make comments like TH-cam and a few religious forums. I don’t socialize on line at all. All my close friends don’t do smartphones or even have a laptop, tablet, or internet access. I make regular voice calls and use the voicemail as an old-fashioned literal answering machine. (I’m old enough to remember when having one of these in your home was cutting edge!). I watch TH-cam mainly at night because that’s when I can receive my neighbor’s WiFi signal. Something blocks it by day? (Yes, it’s with permission! It costs him nothing.). My flip phone is a Trakfone.
I mean a lot of people defintelly do need therapy but social media is also an extremely big contributor to mental health issues in our current world that’s facts. It’s a good way to start for sure
I just ended my 10-year relationship with my smartphone and purchased a Caterpillar S22 flip phone from T Mobile a few days ago. I wanted to re-connect with people and reality. I 1st watched your video 6 months ago and it definitely got me thinking about what zombies we've become as a society. Great video!
@@s.haan_ Hi Shaan, It is pretty good battery life on a full charge. Having said that, I had to go back to an iPhone because my entire family is on it and just makes communication a bit easier.
De-graded our mental health, increased our anxiety, and made us feel alone more than ever. A more accurate description of the effect has NEVER been uttered. I've never had a smart phone, and I never will.
I don’t buy into that social media did that.. I blame parents for not raising their kids.. and they themselves on their phones.. and letting the tech creators raising them.. and praying on their week minds.
If we all downgrade to flip phones, big tech will simply cease their production. Actually, I'm surprised they haven't already. Once they notice a trend in everyone digressing, they will pull the plug on it.

True I even tested it. I use apps for meditation, listening to self help podcasts and only call. I only use TH-cam but not that much and I use Instagram for myself. I just take pictures of my paintings and post them there but I don't follow anyone and nobody follows me. I stopped using Facebook and my mom still tells me to use it everyday or else I'm not "normal." I'm so pressured to use social media apps by my family and relatives that its making me feel more anxious. It's about how you use your time and how much you spend on your phone or screens.
Agreed, it's a wonderful technology if you use it right, calling it anything else is putting the blame on the technology instead of the people who use it.
I agree my friend. It's not the phone it's the user. I can watch soaps on the TV and other silly pointless nonsense but none of it influences me at all. It's a bit of fun or relaxation it's not real for god sake. We usually fast forward through all TV adds but if we do watch theme we know they're just saying "give us your money fool". There was a scheme a few years ago where the government were going to make sure that every person in the UK had access to a PC. Of course they don't need that scheme now as everyone has a smart or iPhone and that's what the powers that be want. If everyone is staring into that screen then they're being brainwashed and controlled and that's great for this current agenda that's disguising itself as "the virus".
@@SgtNicholasAngle I think the reason is that many people struggle to not use their phone for social media etc. even if they intend to quit is that it has become a habit. So using a device (for some time at least) that simply can't open these apps makes it easier to break the habits. I completely quit using reddit (only social media I ever used) but it wasn't as easy as just deciding on it, I still have a page blocker for it in my browser, because even after months the habit is strong, sometimes you need a bit of an extra tool to change your ways, and I guess the same goes for using a flip phone for some time.
Exactly I switched at 17 to using my phone without social media, mindless games, or TH-cam and since then I’m back on TH-cam but I can’t spend hours on it without feeling inactive or like I’m just being a slob and unproductive in fact it took me a few days to even enjoy it anymore because it wasn’t fun to me. TH-cam is useful if done correctly and so is the device which I use now for fitness and dieting along with audiobooks
It’s amazing how we ever met up with each other before cell phones, but we did. We traveled and drove without phones. We had to use use public pay phones when we were away from home. We used maps to navigate. There weren’t answering machines either on our phones either. Not that long ago.
I miss physical maps! IMHO, they are more comprehensive than apps doling out one line of direction at a time! When i used a real map, i saw the comprehensive area and route at once, and got a better idea of my trek. I used to travel all over chicago area with a map and some written bullets on an index card. It was actually quite relaxing! It allowed me to use my eyes to search for major roads, and not have to make abrupt highway exits because of not knowing what was next until too late!
@@thisislilalice No it wasn't annoying. In fact it was never a problem. Of course those brought up on mobile phones would be quite incapable of arranging a meeting without them. We still had functioning brains back then. Those 'brains' have been replaced by the smart phone. Smart phone, stupid people.
Hi Matt, I've done this with an additional purpose (also with the same of yours). Every evening that I went outside with my friends I brought with me an old Nokia with a number that I gave only to few people (parents and close friend). I've done this because I realize that every time I have a few dead minutes I spend them looking at the phone instead of THINKING (about anything). I think that we are not use to think anymore (even to light weight things) and this is very dangerous for our brain. Our modern phones have features that we can't live without (music, GPS, photocamera etc...) and it is anachronistic to get rid of them. We have to find a solution to be not distracted and use these powerful devices in an intentional way (I haven't find a way yet). Sorry for my English. I always watch your videos. Stay Safe. Learco
Lol 😆 I seen a guy walk into a light pole because he was so into texting he wasn't paying attention to his surroundings! I was laughing so hard I almost walked into another pole! 😆
I have that exact phone. Biggest challenge: people text me, I call them right back and they don't answer, and they don't even check their voicemail if I leave a message. Even my closest friends can't seem to remember that talking on the phone feels better than texting - tone of voice, and real-time back and forth of an actual conversation are an antidote to the loneliness everyone complains about, but they "don't want to bother anyone" by calling. You're not bothering someone who likes you by wanting connection with them! And to schedule anything, it takes less than 60 seconds while talking on the phone, but trading texts can go on for literally *days* and in that timespan, my availability changes. It's so much simpler just to have things scheduled than to try to keep juggling a bunch of maybe's. I have an old GPS in my car, and a chromebook for internet. Some things are actually more expensive with a flip phone because places like gas stations offer a discount if you use an app to pay, and you can't do anything that requires you to scan the data matrix.
As if any Apple product would work after a decade, much less 30 years. Planned obsolecence is too polite a term. Got an ipod touch (a few actually) I can't use because its "too old for updates" but older apps don't work either even if you find them for most services. The hardware is still fine, Apple just wants to sell more and more e-waste, so they slowly bricked it, as they do all their older devices. Good riddance.
I recently revealed the genders of my two girlfriends. It got a lot of hate and now has 30 times more dislikes than likes. I am really sad that people can be so mean. Sorry for using your comment to talk about my problems, dear noam
this says a lot about our society, which we live in... *we live in a society* -batman the hero we didnt deserved but done needed i think thats the quote.
I just end up minimizing everything on my phone - turn off notifications and uninstall apps and it basically is like a flip phone at that point, but added benefits of having maps or apps when I trully need them.

Yep - I've had a flip phone since I can remember. To me "It's just a phone" That's what I use it for. I don't text - I actually talk to people. I store phone numbers in it so I can "Talk" to people. I don't need to be connected to the internet everywhere I go. I can actually see where I'm walking because my face isn't focused on my phone. If someone calls I choose to talk or not. I can actually hang up on content I don't want. I have a PC lap top I use if I want to connect to the internet. I don't have a need to take pictures of everything around me. That's what God gave me a memory for. Get off you're "Smart Phone" and start talking to people again. Soak in the beauty of what's around you. I do all of the above and I still like having my smart phone. it depends on what you decide to do with this tool. Your livestyle may not require that you pick up email or texts while out of the house. My business does. I love tracking my workouts, having digital images that I take with my phone, taking notes, organizing my day, being able to transfer that data between my phone, Ipad, laptop. I dont do much social media, but my phone is the most useful tool. I dont have to find that grocery list that I put down somewhere in my house, or that important note or notes that somehow got misplaced. I listen to the news on my phone, have all my contacts in one place, deposit checks into my bank account (only at home) scan documents that I need, track where my car is when I park it in an unfamiliar parking lot, use it as a magnifier in a restaurant when I forget my glasses. The flashlight comes in handy too. So many things! But I walk by the beach with the phone in my pocket, and I listen to the ocean, watch the clouds float by and feel totally alive!

It's obviously the majority of the problem. But if you can't resist it (and it's extremely hard to resist), you need to make it much harder to get to. To stop addiction you need to avoid any cues that will lead you down the path.
Most people don't understand - and some don't want to understand - that the advent of so-called 'social media' and higher and higher 'Gs' is nothing but a trap for the mind and money of simple gullible folks. In fact, it's often even worse than that as it can and often does compromise financial security and privacy.
I studied abroad during college in the 90s and travelled to almost every country in Western Europe, without a phone or Internet! @@mattdavella I have thought about downgrading so many times. Honestly if I ever felt ready to downgrade I would have searched for a sliding phone or old school blackberry instead. The old sliding phones were pretty much the same as flip phones, but they had a slide out keyboard that made it easier to type, and were specifically designed for 2 things, calling and texting. Old school blackberrys had a built in keyboard too. Since so many people hate phone calls nowadays and prefer typing out their conversations, I would have to have a keyboard on my phone to keep up with text messages from my friends and family. I’d rather Apple actually take 2 years or so to come out with an upgraded phone instead of coming out every year with the same shit. Woah most likes I’ve ever had. Thanks everyone for your opinions and inputs on this topic!
Eh, some years it's pretty much the same. iphone 6s-8 were pretty identical minus the improvements to the manufacturing side (waterproofing and whatnot), but the original iphone X and now iphone 11 are a massive step up. The 12 is less exciting because the 11 was so amazing. That's how engineering works. You save up improvements until you get a ton of awesome stuff and then you release it. The next cycle after such a massive improvement is going to be less impressive. The only thing I was really excited about was that 16 billion transistor M1 chip Apple made. It was seriously impressive. I personally find great satisfaction watching the improvement of technology and keeping track of it. This is coming from someone that spends maybe $350/year average on cool new electronics. 2 years ago that used to be closer to around $250 but there are so many cool new things with tangible improvement from 5 years ago coming out!
They probably already have many, many prototypes with features much more sophisticated than what they are giving us now, but if they just gave them to us now, they would lose out on a lot of money
I prefer that they release it yearly. Then then you upgrade after 4-5 years you will get something that not almost two years old (if you need to replace your phone when just before their next release).
Agree so much! I am actually in the process of divorcing my iPhone; working on delegating all the duties my phone performs, ya know? Like buying a wristwatch and more😂♥️👍🏽
@SwallowingTheRabbitWhole You have to be better than this - can't be so weak. And it is definitely harder than just opening an app. The real issue is when you need social media for your work. Heh. Then it is just about your will.
So glad to see this, all social media needs to be abolished. We need to go back to basic talk/text and communicating with people we know. I'm going to try this eventually, stayed on my 2016 SE and use apple watch but going to get rid of social media apps.
I once expressed to my partner a few years back that I wanted to eventually downgrade to a flip phone, because I know how bad smartphones can be for you. She then went on to shame me for being too paranoid. Glad I got out of that relationship when I did because it was toxic as hell. Your partner should not shame your genuine concerns.
I did this in 2017, the only thing I missed was being able to look up how to get from location A to B, and to track running. With a fitness watch I can now track running. Not going back to a smart phone.
this is a necessity for the younger generations! the phones destroy relationships with people and i mean real relationships not just streaks or whatever. im 17 and have switched for 2 ish months now, it has made quality of life indescribably better.
I ordered a flip phone too and I'm 17! Can't wait to get it! I wish more people from our generation was aware of the situation and could do this for themselves
“Upgrading every two years since I was 16.” - Why not just hold onto your current phone for another couple of years and save yourself the money? It’s not as dramatic as going down to a flip phone, but the phones these days can easily last a few years and you won’t be following that incremental upgrade hype!
I second that. I also think, that being on the phone a lot has to do with self discipline. I had a 6 and used it for 4-5 years since my battery was not usable any more and switched to the Xr which I will use for another 4-5 years if not longer. I don't know why people still get tempted on Apple product keynotes. It's not like they are selling you snake oil, they just tinker on a newer product. I'm right there with you! I keep my phones till they break! But I think he wanted to also see the impact of not having a smart phone not just of not having the newest smart phone.
I do this while still using Android smartphone : - delete social media app - only use basic communication : phone, Whatsapp, e-mail - turn off pop up news and app notification (exclude basic communication) So, I repurpose my smartphone to 'dumb phone' to some degree.
I did the same thing two years ago and it was the best decision I made. Also my kids have to follow the same path until 18. It really has it’s benefits.
On a side note. A friend of mine. Bought their three kids which are Middle School. $1200.oo iPhones each. Lol. Sad to think this is what we have become. Allow me to say it again. Just to make sure that it sets in. A seventh-grader. With a $1,200 iPhone
I did volunteer work at my son's school for awhile. You wouldn't believe how many incident reports get filed daily, for stolen phones. Even half that price is outrageous, but it helps the companies rip you off for insurance costs.

even not using your phone for several hours while in public, looking around, seeing people consumed by a screen. It’s very sad. I hope that a flip phone revolution is coming.
the sad thing is that phones nowadays dont hold as long as they used to. I really dont see the need to change my phone every few years, but after a while it starts to slow down, reduce the free space in it, glitch or smth, making me buy a new one. Still, Im trying to use my phone till as long as possible, usually 3-5 years.
I usually buy a new phone when its stop working.. But this time I havent bought any during the pandemic and life has been so much better without a smartphone during the lockdown
yes! when my last phone finally bit the dust i went online to find the closest thing to it. i just wanted a same-grade. upgrades are expensive and unnecessary
After just yesterday watching that documentary on Netflix “The Social Dilemma”, I absolutely get it. Everything with the tech companies is all to get you addicted and then keep you addicted to their platform services.
I use a 3G non smart phone. It sends and receives texts, makes and receives phone calls and takes pictures. I don't use social media. I surf the net on a desktop and read books. I'm happy.
@@matoko123 It's an addiction true, but addictions can be broken. To me a very sad sight is 6 people in a club lounge and they're all on their phones. Why even bother to go out?
i was watching a show after i put my sons to sleep. my sink was full of dishes and i contemplated on doing them and then watching my show. then i took a look around my house and then my yard, my garage, my car, even my photo album in my phone and it’s all a mess. then i questioned, “how many times have i chosen to watch a show or mindlessly scroll on social media over doing things i need to get done?” i called my carrier today and asked to downgrade. my husband and i are both downgrading to flip phones. i cant wait to have my time back.
When we began spending more time at home I put my iPhone down and started doing stuff around the house. I changed out all of my electrical plugs and light switches, painted rooms, installed new flooring throughout the house and I started woodworking. I now am making furniture for my house as well as my kids houses... Everyone finds different ways to cope, I like my life a lot better now and the joy I get from giving away something that I made is the "Icing" on the cake of life
My compliments! I’m viewing this on an iPad and using a WiFi signal I get only at night. I have a flip Trakfone, without internet capability. It makes and receives calls, has voicemail for missed calls, takes a limited number of pictures which I can print out at Walgreens or Staples, has old style texting that I rarely use. There’s no contract. I just buy a card and add minutes as needed. Oh, it also has an alarm clock and a timer. Cheap, convenient, meets my needs. If I socialize by phone, it’s by having a conversation. I feel no need of “following” anyone, and I certainly do not want others “following” me! I think it’s creepy, the idea that people use their phones to track you and feel that you must be available 24/7, 365! In my world, that’s called stalking!
I think that’s the most powerful thing about this experience. It used to be that if you wanted a camera or a GPS you went out and bought one of each. There are entire industries around those product segments. The smartphone offered a convenient way to package it all together. The only problem is that now the smartphone tends to place itself in the center of our lives. We rely on these things. That’s what makes downgrading such an interesting experiment.
Great video. These makes me miss the simpler days without social media, all the hi-fi phones, just simply being people who greet each other and are just simple. I feel like-though im grateful for everything and shouldn’t be complaining, I do feel like the world needs simplicity right now. I think things become a bit overcomplicated with all this new stuff.
I've had the same flip phone since 2004. I have never felt that I needed a smart phone. I have a computer at home and do just fine. I have saved myself thousands by not trying to keep up with the latest model like so many around me. Back in the 70's it was new cameras every few months.
Well I must say, having a smart phone has replaced my computer except for having to write documents. Having a portable GPS is a blessing too, god help me back in the day when I had to navigate using a map or printing directions on map quest to go to new places. Just turn off notifications and it will not interfere with your life in my opinion. My Samsung S8 is 4 years old now, works great, I got it for $200 2 years ago.
I downgraded to a flip phone for the whole summer this year. The only things I missed were audiobook and music apps. Sometimes I really felt the need to check social media, but that only showed how dopamine-addicted I used to be. It was hard, but honestly, I felt much better. Good luck, Matt!
The key is simplify your inputs and distractions. I have a LG Smartphone that is 6 years old. I have zero apps except to get Chrome and Gmail. I don't play on-line games and only have Linked In , FB, and Instagram (For my photography). In addition, I still have a 10 year iPod for my gym time. I can communicate with who I want on my time and not be barraged by notifications and likes all the time. My phone gets turned off everynite around 730 and I don't miss it. I sleep well, eat healthy, gym time and many outdoor activities to maintain physical health. With tech, like anything, less is best. Manage what you can and keep it minimal. I just turned 56 and had excellent annual physical. My mental health is solid and I do my best to stay physically connected rather than thru media channels. Actually calling someone rather than texting. Being trapped into having the latest and getting the most 'likes' will destroy you financially and mentally. Peace and I wish all the best.

Agreed, I’ve had my phone for 3 years now and never seen a reason to spend $1000 every year when the one you have does everything you need

Social intercourse sums it up.

Dude at the store acted like downgrading to a flip phone was a regular occurrence

30 years later: downgrading to an iphone 12 pro
As if any Apple product would work after a decade, much less 30 years. Planned obsolecence is too polite a term. Got an ipod touch (a few actually) I can't use because its "too old for updates" but older apps don't work either even if you find them for most services. The hardware is still fine, Apple just wants to sell more and more e-waste, so they slowly bricked it, as they do all their older devices. Good riddance.

You don't need to be in constant contact with everyone on social media. It's all fake anyway. Get real and start talking to everyone again.

2 years ago that used to be closer to around $250 but there are so many cool new things with tangible improvement from 5 years ago coming out!
they cant. People s jobs depend on the yearly release
you can simply ignore the year after year release. Just pretend that they dont happen

I think it’s creepy, the idea that people use their phones to track you and feel that you must be available 24/7, 365! In my world, that’s called stalking!
Without question one of the best and most bryttaly honest video make in this century! Every word stay as a mountain!
I would definitely consider this if my phone wasn’t my only camera and GPS
Same. I had a iPhone 6 till this year and got an xr. Finally felt the camera was worth the $500 cost of a refurbished phone
Agreed - and whatsapp! However a great minimalist set up is the siempo app
THIS IS ME
Yeah, I worry about the GPS. Wondering if there's a long term solution for a GPS that isn't on my phone. Hmm...
Can you imagine if everyone started doing this.. these companies would loose their s***
- Powered by Windows 98
And influencers would have no job 😅
@@J3an_j3an this is why it's worth doing :D
Windows 98 would never work because it’s too slow for business

@Veritas Dolens As true as that may be it seems only natural that Fascism arises in people when capitalism get out of hand.
Is no one gonna talk about how sweet Matt’s mum was in that phone call 😭❤️
How are you doing since 3G networks are shutting down
I downgraded to a flip phone for the whole summer this year.
Peace and I wish all the best.
any chance I can move in with you?
You hit the nail on the head "it's new and I want it" ! genius
