    You can get pull ropes that hunters (me) use to get our gear up and down from our tree stand. You can secure the line around the trap and gently lower it to the ground.

      I normally do... but this was moms call ;) also the swarm was on multiple very large branches and, because it was a pine they were all joined together. All good though:)

    What a wonder of place, you put your soul into this work. I know the poetry of sound buzz bees, If you weren't so far I would come and meet you! I need people like you to undertake a change an idea and a permaculture project ... u are fantastic.

    I haven't put out any swarm traps yet, but I will be soon. I only have a few drones flying. I live about 100 miles south of the honeystead. I use a 10 frame deep hive body full of drawn comb,super swarm lure and I place a brick length wise on one side of the entrance. Face the entrance to the southeast. I just sit them around the edges of the trees on a hive stand a couple hundred feet away from the apiary. Dr. Thomas Seeley has a great video on swarms.

    This year I built all new traps but they are about 4 inches deeper to achieve the perfect bee space. Nuc's work but not as well as my new ones. I have been called 15 times for swarms before April started so I'm giving away bee's to everyone her in North Carolina.It's out of control !

    If new or 2nd year and you are very limited on old comb there is a good waxing method. Buy yellow bees wax and melt. Use a small roller or paintbrush and coat the inside of your box and around outside of entrance hole. Fill will plastic foundation frames. Wax smell helps. Very good video.

    I just had a friend offer me his property to put bees on as I'm getting started for my 1st year .. I asked him if I could put traps on his property and he was all in .. I told him what I catch on his property I would raise and I got even better thumbs up on that because me talking about raising bees for my 1st time has raised interest in others !!

    “... when you get a phone call for a swarm that needs to be *rescued* ....” Rescued?? Do you mean moved or removed? Because bees have been swarming for multi-millennium without needing humans to “rescue” them.

    • @TheHoneystead
      @TheHoneystead  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes... some require to be rescued. Some are just swarm catches... it just depends on what people call about. I agree that bees do what they do, but some bees land in a locations that are unwanted and sprayed.... so yeah! I’m going to rescue them!

    Yay!! We set our very first swarm trap out two days ago, and today is the first day without rain since that day. I want to check it every fifteen minutes. HAHAHA Hey, do you ALWAYS set them south-facing? I currently have ours facing East. Happy to change it if necessary (it's on an old deer stand, so it'd be no trouble to pivot it). Thanks! Really enjoy your videos. ~ Tommy A.

    That’s “freebees” not freebies! My best and largest hives came from swarms I caught. My bees were several miles from the subdivision that I live in. I have neighbors all around me and I noticed lots of bees scouting around my house so I went and got one of my extra hives and set it up in my back yard, in 3 days they moved in, two deep boxes full. You can catch swarms just about anywhere!
