  • Fitting a tow pack on to a 2012 VW transporter shuttle.
After a bit of research I install the tow pack on to the VW t5.1 shuttle van.
The mechanical side of installation is reasonably straightforward, removing the lamps first, then the corner panels, bumper and deformation panel.
You also have to remove the spare wheel and bit of plastic lining above it.
Be careful to remove the parking sensors. The mounts slot in to the chassis and bolt through from the spare wheel well.
I hope to make a video on the wiring side of things but it's harder to film!
Hope this helps if you are attempting to do the same on your van.
The 7 pin wire was a tight fit through the bodywork, so i dropped a bit of curtain cord down to pull it through.
Give us a like if this was helpful, thanks

Have you had any problems with this towbar moving at all? Looks same as mine and keeps coming a bit loose soon after tightening the 2 main towbar bolts to clamp

unfortunately my gopro started messing around, it's quite straightforward though, the bypass relay requires a 12v feed, then all the other wires are just from the light clusters, you can chase them back to the nearest point . you take 90% from the rear n/s , i think all you need from the o/s is the right indicator, lights, brakes and stops can be common (they do the same on both sides). Possibly with exception of sidelights (parking lights).... i can't overly remember!

@@CamberKitesurfing Cheers - looks same as mine. Also had the same issue you had when rotating it and it fouls where the bumper slots into so can't get the other bolts in. Going to have to grind it tomorrow :-/

@@chatlow yeah that was a bit of a pain but i got them in straight without any grinding luckily

Did you do the wiring vid?

    • @CamberKitesurfing

unfortunately not, I started then it was just too fiddly as I had no one to film, you have to get in super close to see the wire colours. If you are testing continuity take the bulbs out otherwise you get continuity through the bulb filaments

@@CamberKitesurfing Fair enough. Done towbars in the past butba bit cautious about the CANBUS system and whats different.

@@vwtransportersandmotorcycl3729 yeah it's a bit different to the conventional method as there is the bypass relay. It's a case of stripping back the body panels until you find a decent place to T into. Plus the relay needs a 12v feed.
