The funny thing is everyone says Brady is GOAT. But in reality, Mahomes is much, much better. You can't compare 23 seasons to just 7 seasons so compare Brady's first 7 to Mahomes first 7. Brady doesn't even come close. Mahomes is on pace to surpass Brady in every category in half the time. As an example in just 7 seasons, Mahomes has rushed for 1,936 yards. Brady has only rushed for 1,123 yards in 23 seasons. Mahomes has rushed for 813 more yards in just 7 seasons than Brady did his entire career. Head-to-head stats for their first 7 years are ridiculous. Brady isn't even a close second to Mahomes. At the same point in their careers, Mahomes has more yards, TDs, and everything else. And when I say more... I mean a lot more.

Mahomes this year has mastered the art that got Brady to more Super Bowls than he had any right to:
    1. Have a top 3 defense
    2. Get a 10 point lead
    3. Don’t fuck up
But he also adds in 2-3 plays per game that no one else can make, that’s the difference. Brady is probably a bit more savvy than Mahomes but he could never beat anyone with his legs (except Brian Urlacher😂) and Pat’s arm talent is ungodly

KC is playing to the strength of their team just like Bill B would always do. Even if the Chiefs WRs do get deep they're probably gonna drop it. With their top defense you don't want to lose the turnover battle because that's most likely the only way Mahomes loses games.

Its less about the drops more than having enough reliable targets so Pat has cushy answers against man and blitzes. Plus Kelce's drop off seems more evident now where unless he's 95% for the whole season, he's gonna coast it and save it all in January. So you need other guys besides Rashee Rice to step up to make spreading the ball around for YAC more of a threat.

Sitting behind Alex Smith for his entire rookie year likely helped him a lot, and especially with the injury last year, Mahomes was forced to adapt. And he doesn't just adapt from season to season or game to game, it's literally drive to drive and play to play. If the situation calls for a gunslinger, Mahomes ascends to a level I can only compare to prime Brett Farve. And when the situation calls for game management, Mahomes dials it back and operates Reid's scheme with the precision and efficiency that previously only Alex Smith ever could. He is, somehow, the best of both worlds, and it's incredible to watch.

Great video as always! I love how you articulate in detail the strategic and technical aspects of the game, that I as a TV watching fan, can sense but can't explain. It's like watching someone with a lot music theory or studio production knowledge explain why a song sounds so good.
I am so excited for this Superbowl, and I don't get the popular disappointment with the matchup. I understand people want to see new teams have shot; especially in the case of long suffering franchises (Lions). But this Superbowl has so much drama to it! In one corner you have the Chiefs. A team who has an opportunity to cement their dynasty status with a third Superbowl win. In the other corner is the Shanahan 49er's. A great successful team, but who lost their shot at a Superbowl (to Chiefs of all teams) and have had to wait four long grueling years for another chance. If 49er's win, then Shanahan finally gets that choking narrative off his back and the core of 49er's get a much deserved ring. If the Chiefs win, dynasty status achieved and absolute agony for the 49er's.
This matchup feels so 50/50 to me, and I can see it going either way. On paper the 49'ers seem like the better team. They're like this beautiful, violent machine that when it gets going is almost impossible to stop. But if anyone can throw a wrench into that machine and gunk it up: it's Spags, it's Mahommes, it's the Chiefs! I can't wait!

The thing is everyone says Brady is GOAT.

As a KC native and life long Chiefs fan the GOAT conversion is still a little unfair. Because even though what I've been watching with my QB is clearly the best QB play I've ever seen, that never really needed to be the case with Brady. He didn't have a standard to uphold, he set the bar himself. So, oddly, a lot of Mahomes success is an attribute to Tom Brady.

I remember when a little while ago, that you did a video breaking down the Chiefs' struggles against the blitz. It seems like, with the quicker releases, that they have made the proper adjustment! This year's Chiefs teams certainly reminds me of some of the Brady Patriots teams, and they are going to be VERY tough to beat for some time.

Not true we are discounting Brady a lot because he was never in an offensive system. He never enjoyed the offensive talent that Mahomes had day one on the Chiefs roster in Kelce and Hill. He did once he was in his 7th season in the NFL. You should lookup what Brady was able to do with a supposedly washed Randy Moss it is just as amazing as Mahomes 1st season in the NFL if not more. The main reason why Brady is discounted a lot is playing for a defensive coach we clearly have no idea what he would have been able to do under someone like Andy Reid where Bill Belichick kept most of his draft capital for the defence. The other thing that is truly amazing about Mahomes is his athleticism in the case of Brady it is more what you can’t see. If we wanted to know who is best we would have to be able to measure what we can’t see. This is how Brady was able to make up the difference between him, Peyton and Rodgers. This is how he was able to distanciante himself from those two. What in the end was the difference was his intangibles. Since they are intangible and Tom no longer plays it will be hard to determine if he might have more than Patrick.
