- Dan Auerbach and his 1960 Telecaster Custom...in my opinion, a VERY strong contender for the winner of “the best tele on planet earth” contest, were there ever to be such a contest.
Guys, this thing is.....transcendental....there is that .0001 percentile of all guitars that are just pure 'magic'...this one has got it in spades.

I must agree, that Tele is magic. Dan is the man, if anyone deserves a magic guitar it is him. I met Dan and Pat when they were touting in a van for the Big Come Up. They warmed up for Slater Kinney in Chicago and I was the only person in the place there to see the Black Keys. After they were done my wife and I went down stairs and there they were packing up their gear ready to get in the van and head to Minneapolis. I tried hard to get them to go next door to the Gingerman and let me buy them some beers. They said they wanted to but had to get on the road. They let us take pics and talked to us for 10 minutes or so, very cool guys.
The tone Dan gets with that guitar on his new Delta Kream album is amazing and so soulful
Apparently he also recorded a couple of songs with his burst he got recently on that album too

I know you'll think I'm a idiot but I've never been a tele guy. Hated them, but maybe it's because I've never played a vintage one. I've owned quite a few and have tried to love them but just never got it.

Brian Lyall he knows what he likes, and has amassed what works for him, but certainly preaches to just go with what you like and learn your gear.

Yes, hes a gear hound for sure but I respect his, learn to play and learn to get the sound from yourself first approach whereas a lot of people will focus on gear first (nothing wrong with that) but I think because of that he's successfully avoided his channel getting bogged down with tech talk
@@justinguitarcia I saw a clip of Carlos Santana talking about things where he said he will ask other musicians what they are playing, and they'll give him chapter and verse of all their gear, when what he really means is what music are you working on.
I remember watching a group of all well known and famous blues players taking turns on stage once. When SRV started playing I said “ Oh! Ok! That’s what it supposed to sound like”
Whenever you start playing, Tom, I say “ Oh!Ok! So that’s what it’s supposed to sound like!” No matter what you play!! You have an incredible connection with music!

You think a group of well known and famous blues players didn’t sound like blues is supposed to sound like, but SRV does? I really hope that those blues players you’re talking about weren’t the real deal, old school blues guys - the guys that SRV would have grown up listening to, because that’s just ignorant to suggest that SRV played the blues “the way it’s supposed to sound” and the all guys who founded and perfected the blues genre not.

Good to see and hear you, Tom. I miss being able to see you and Pat B every month when I lived in Nashville. Those are some of my favorite shows I’ve ever seen. And I don’t know if you remembered my name or where you knew me from but you shot me a look of recognition from the stage at the Atlanta Joe Walsh show opening for TP that made the folks around me turn and look at me. I said to my son “Tom! It’s Tom from Nashville!”
While you were playing the tele, I enjoyed seeing Dan looking like that guy who walked in on two people making out .😏
