MakeNoise PrssPnt & Channel Saver | First Patch

  • When MakeNoise announced the two little utility modules I couldn't help wondering why.
Channel Saver is like the two center Maths channels which most of us already have in our case. But it's also remarkably close to a Buchla 257 voltage math because of the crossfader. Unfortunately it doesn't have a CV to crossfade, which X-PAN has. It's a nice utility on its own, and a welcome patch buddy for Maths when it's doing 22 more important things. It all sounds like no big deal, but the combo can do amazing things once you start patching. A new module will exponentially expand your options.
PrssPnt is a no-brainer imho. Pressure Points was the go-to module for adding human interaction, but it was also the module that always had to go in favor for more important utilities. The video claims it's discontinued, but it's not. It's still available and in stock. The Brains expander, however, is officially in the discontinued list. Regardless, there's always room for the 4HP PrssPnt and even a tiny bit of human touch can do wonders. You'll be the clock, the expression and the source of uncertainty. I should have used that line in the video. But I bet you'll see it in a next Shared System X episode.
In this first-patch video, I removed Maths and Tempi, so no clocks or envelopes. I had to move the case around by touch and creativity. Working with limitations isn't just a fun challenge, it also makes room to really listen what your VCO's are capable of. I thought I knew the DPO, but it seems I only scratched the surface.

The MakeNoise modules are truly an enigma! Crazy rich sounds, and a daunting graphical user interface! 😂

I will second your comments on DPO. There comes a time when you think you’ve got it figured out and then you try something simple through the mod busses and realize you have a lot left to discover. I’m surprised to hear pressure points is discontinued! Glad that I completed my system when I did.

I may be mistaken here. PressurePoints is still in the list of current modules. Brains is definitely discontinued.

Wow! This is great. Mine arrive tomorrow along with a DXG. You are dangerous.

oups, "patches" and not "pathes" .... ( and not in a decorative way, but in a very inspiring way instead ) ;)

My fingers are likewise capactively challenged to reliably trigger Pressure Points. Never suspected alien blood, but now other anomalies are beginning to make sense, such as the struggle to wire my custom dual display Disting Ex module. Failure to correctly count pins is a known shortcoming of the off worlders. Your viddy was again replete with marvelously novel bloops, bleeps and textures.

It's funny I never had any problems with PressurePoints, but 0-CTRL and Rene V1 always gave me a headache while Rene V2 always works perfectly. Not to mention that Buchla 218 keyboard. I was so worried, but it's a dream to play. PrssPnt works fine, but I needed it to be on 100%. You can always trim down sensitivity with the front knob :).

Thanks much .. PrssPnt .. the organic, chaotic contribution, indeed is a valuable add .. sort of in this same vein .. I've been meaning to ask if you've curious about footswitches, such as a Doepfer A-177-2. "Scratching the surface" .. that's how I feel about this module. Oh, .. and a Moog petal/similar quality to trigger it, and all the places that a person can go with some by hand (by foot) inputting.

I have the Instruo Larachd which comes with a footswitch. I never used the switch until now, but It's a must have feature if you're doing granular synthesis with a live instrument where you need both hands to play AND start recording. It's a valuable addition for my toolbox, but didn't encounter a need for it yet. It would be fun to just noodle my guitar and use Arbhar and Lubadh.

Another great video. What is the 1U patchbay you are using? I just checked the price on these units and they are very reasonable! Wonders will never cease. Cheers

What is saved when you put CH.SVR in case without Maths? In my case it will be my eyes because I get all black row instead of having one orange module in it.

No, hopefully next year I'll be able to make it. I completely forgot about it.
