It's implied that this guy has been doing this job for most of the 40 year period. If you look closely, the portrait he has on the desk is meant to show pictures of him as a younger man, gradually getting older, culminating in his current more old-man-look. So it's kind of understandable that he's taken by surprise. Most people assumed the Cylons really would never return, and that the Armistice station was just a symbol at that point.

This was a fantastic episode, thanks for making this and Newbie Trek!
The Six killing the baby scene is so interesting to me, cause to me, as she walks away, seeing how you learn later from her that "I can't die", that almost feels like her first experience with death outside of the realm of "this is my enemy in uniform". She seems almost a little gutted and I think that's a great character moment.
Also I never noticed Lee and his dad have such similar eyes, that's a great note!

I always took 6 killing the baby to be that she knew what was coming and she decided to spare the baby - she does say “it’s ok you’re not going to need to cry much longer”

'70s-era Centurions appear in the scene in which they clear out the launch pod that had been converted to a museum.

Also there is a connection to Firefly with BSG. I forget exactly who on the team worked on it but in the scene where Roslin learned she had cancer they pan down from a skylight and the Serenity flys by.

The Actor that plays Number Six has a podcast and does a full breakdown of the baby killing scene. How they got away with putting it on screen, the context and subtext and what she added to the performance that made it work. With a listen .

Another fun fact. The actor who plays Lee Adama is very much British. He maintained that perfect American accent throughout the series. I never suspected he wasn't a full American.

You beat me to it. The imagery and tone of post 9/11 is all over this. Further, the choice to follow the “other” polytheistic religion and have the antagonists be the more familiar monotheistic religion was an amazing choice given where we were at the time…

57:42 I agree… she does not… in fact there have been quite a few interviews with Katee Sackoff over the years where she tells about her state of mind as an actress and a person over all. Also, in those interviews, Katee talks about how she had the opportunity to grow greatly as a performer and how her and other actors/artists involved saw her become light years better since her first appearance in the miniseries/backdoor plot, of BSG. Moreover Katee has also discussed from her own experiences, her frustration with how she performs Kara/Starbuck, and how it’s because she did stop trying to get better, she allowed herself to take the Kara character to better places than where/how she first started -- appropriately balanced performances with the character.

This is an example of a show that the actors treated it as art. The score is amazing. Beautiful cinematography and storytelling. All on not the best budget. I started it when it first aired , fell off and then finished it within the past year with my wife. Honestly one of the best things ever finishing this story.

Each individual cylon is a unique (ish) person. They are they're own being. They can share their memories with other cylons but they aren't a hive mind or a single intelligence. You'll see it displayed later if u guys choose to continue.

  • @namonibblonian
    @namonibblonian 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Newbie Battlestar please!!! So say we all! BSG is one of my favorite shows of all time. I also watched it as it aired. It's such a character driven show. It's super messy, but so good. Love the basement btw. Side note, my dogs are named Helo and Kara (Starbuck) lol :)
Tricia Hefler is hot in any space and time, you shoosh lol. I think 6 totally felt bad about snapping that baby's neck, it was all over her face.
Cylons are all the same and all different. They start as the same "slate," but once they... come online, trying not to spoil, their experiences make them individuals
Adama has a lot of past baggage with the Cylons, all I'll say. He's older and more mature now and he started to think about his son and that softened him up some I'd say. He's the hero the fleet needed at that point. On him "doing all the dangerous stuff" remember the fleet had been at peace for 40 years and pretty much everyone on the ship was very in-experienced so he probably felt he needed to micromanage the situation a little
Everyone knows that the best Cylon test is the back glowing during sex test. Spine glows red - Cylon. Done. At home test are encouraged, results may vary lol
I'll agree with Katee Sackoffs, and other performances, in this first episode maybe. She really comes into the character later on. The writers really did a garden approach to the characters, they planted a lot of seeds here for later and many, many seeds grew lol.
The "gnarly, harrowing stuff" keeps going. It's one of the things I like about the show. Decisions and actions have real consequences, and Roslin feels that and illustrates it for everyone via the count in her office. Later on, the show also has some of the, imo, the best scenes on all of TV. There are at least 3 I'm thinking of.
Sorry about the rant comment! Just had to get it all out incase this is the only episode you guys do lol.

Nice episode! Looking forward to hearing more. I always loved BSG, but one thing about the pilot that always threw me a little off was the lack of music. I'd have to rewatch it again, but iirc there was very little background music and it almost felt silent and dull in some scenes. But the story hooked me and after the first season, I stuck it out till the end, episode by episode. Hope you guys take the time to watch more.
For laughs, you should do the 1970s BSG pilot lol. On a more serious note, Farscape or Expanse pilots would be fun, if you circle around to Sci-fi again.

The Colonial officer rank structure is a mix of US naval and army ranks:
Ensign, Lieutenant JG, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lt. Colonel, Colonel, Commander, Admiral. BSG Commander is equal to ST Captain. Colonel Tigh is one rank lower and the First Officer, equal to a full Commander like Riker. Were this ST, Lee/Apollo's rank of Captain is roughly equal to Lt. Commander like Data or Giordi on TNG. Kara/Starbuck would be a Lieutenant in either series.

BSG is a fantastic show. You should definitely keep watching. Not sure about your video presentation though. I just don't get it and can't sit watching vibrating animated heads on an otherwise static picture for 100 mins. What a waste of a visual medium. This should just be a podcast.

Captain is lower than commander in every branch of the military. The commander of the ship, is the ships captain. But lees "captain" rank is far lower than commander. Off the cuff so i might have some details jumbled but there are plenty of rank guides online. I think we get used to captains from star trek being the rank and role, but thats not normally the way it is.

  • @Mocha69A

Captain do not out rank a commander of a naval fleet. Commander denotes in general high command
