Then I tried switching my grip like you suggested and I got more speed and topsin, but I missed more serves low into the net. The original grip put a nice sidespin on the ball for another option. I'm a little hesitant to use the new grip because it's not as consistent, but I'll keep practicing with it and see what happens. Thanks for another great video, Tanner.

    I'm still using a bounce serve with brush topspin applied to the top of the ball. At 6'4" I get enough height on the bounce that this isn't a huge liability in generated pace. Before I saw this video, I had no desire to convert to a volley serve. But this actually looks like a technique worth the bother to learn.
    My brush topspin generates reasonably decent pace. What makes it work is that it is less familiar to most opponents, and the amount of topspin applied is almost impossible to read at paddle contact. Small differences in whip and timing make a 2x difference in the topspin that results. The resulting uncertainty is just enough to make the opponents hesitate before ball contact, and become less than thrilled about trying to run through it.
    But obviously, my bounce serve could only become a limitation much above the 4.5 level. It does generate less pace, and finally that will become limiting.

    • @tanner.pickleball
      @tanner.pickleball  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, good pickup on that! You can only hit so hard with a bounce serve! It may be working now, you may want to change it down the road!

      @@tanner.pickleball I tried. The grip is my only issue. I use back the slightly eastern grip. the power is almost the same as my old serve. (maybe haven't fully master yet) and didn't really go deep to the backcourt. However, it offers me to be more static after the serve and faster to prepare for the 3rd shot. I will try again in my next session. Thanks. At least I know a new technique of serve.

    Question regarding where your hips should face: You were on the right side serving to the left side, and you’re loading your left leg since you’re left handed.
    Now when you are serving from the left side, where should your hips face, the right post or left post still?

    Thanks for everything Tanner and congrats on your bronze! I have been serving using your old serve technique for a few months. However, with this new technique, I'm having trouble getting the ball over the net because the grip you recommend necessitates a fully closed paddle face when making contact (if I'm correct, the paddle face is almost parallel with the ground when making contact). How are you able to get it consistently over the net? Exaggerated wrist motion for more top spin?

    Tanner. Great video but 100% of my serves go straight down and land on my side of the kitchen. I can't figure it out.

      @tanner.pickleball  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Grain! Make sure you are getting UNDER the ball. If you don't exaggerate that, your ball will go into the bottom of the net! Once you figure this out, the amount of spin is next level.

    Awww Tanner! I'm a 52 year old 3.0 player and have modeled my serve after yours (The Old Way) and actually been able to compete with 3.5 and occasionally 4.0 level players just with my serve. I'm actually pretty proud of it! Forgive the sloppy play and camera work and I havent uploaded any PB content to my actual channel as I'm not really in that genre. But if I stay into it may have to merge. Not sure if this old dog is ready for this new trick but may have to give it a try. th-cam.com/video/NSIG8v0_dKg/w-d-xo.html

      Thanks Brad I will check that out! If your serve is working, no need to change it! This video is more for those looking for a change in their game. I constantly am experimenting and changing all aspects of my game. This is the next thing I'm on :)

      @@tanner.pickleball Oh Id be honored! Im the bald guy. Greatly appreciate any advice. When I actually LISTEN to your tip of keeping that paddle high and closing the kitchen space it works wonders…unfortunately I play lazy often. Ive lost 35 lbs tho and my Dad put me on a stool at age 4 in ping pong so at least I believe I can beat you at that from the highlights. Altho with time you wud overcome!

      Not necessarily its regional. I played with a large part of the nepalese national team when I was living in kathmandu and the members of the team that could speak english often said ping pong

    • @aljerones99
      @aljerones99 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @wolf-xf6hf The correct title for the sport in the UK and most of the rest of the world is "table tennis". This is because "ping pong" is a trade mark, number 233177, registered by the London toy importers and manufacturers Hamley Brothers on 20 September 1900 for their version of table tennis manufactured by John Jaques & Son.
      Most people who take the sport seriously, such as training and playing competitions, will use the term “Table Tennis”. This is the way it's described at all major national and international tournaments, including the Olympics. It's rare to find a competitive player who refers to the sport as Ping Pong.
