    Jimmy there is a special way you have to bleed the systems with the MISHIMOTO overflows tank. You cannot depend on it to bleed with the bleed screw as it would with the OEM setup. Pull off the overflow hose / return line to the overflow tank and let it just pour out into a 2L bottle and bubble out that way. The internals of the MISHI tank do not allow for the bleed screw to be utilized as the overflow hose is blocked internally on the tank. Trust me, I had one and went through the SAME headache! Like so he can see!

    Test you thermostat in a pot of hot water on the stove with an accurate thermometer to tell temp...see what temp it opens up at...if at all...and if it opens when it is suppose to...you have another issue...eliminate possibilities...rather then going through the hassles of removing and replacing thermostats to see if they work...
    I remember getting 2 bad ones in a row from the parts store for my old 6.2 diesel truck...

    Try bleeding the cooling system with your heat on - there’s usually a valve for the heater core that closes when the heat is off. Turning your heat on will open this valve thus completely bleeding your cooling system. Good luck!

  • @shawnjacobi8717
    @shawnjacobi8717 4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    On my e36 I can only get it to bleed by 4 inches off the ground with the bleed screw open rev it to like 2500 rpms I think the water pump does not push an nuff coolant at idle.

    Hey Jimmy! I own a mk4 golf 1.8t myself! Brad should be making anywhere from 10-12 psi on a stock ecu! 5-7 would be considered fault mode for it! Most common thing people do is go atmospheric and realize they're in fault mode because they're tuned for a dv. So maybe start there! Should definetly make more boost!

    Buy an airlift tool. You can vacuum test your cooling system for leaks and then fill up the whole engine when you're done by displacing the lack of air in the system with coolant. Then you just need to warm it up to temp with a funnel at the highest point to bleed the rest of the air out.

Now I test them all and 1 in 7 is junk out of the box it takes less time to test them in boiling water than doing the job over and over. I feel your pain.

    I had a MkIV gti with the 1.8t, depending on which 1.8T engine you have (I had AWP) you should be making 9-12 pounds of boost stock. If you're making 5, that usually means you're in limp mode. Easiest way to recreate it is to unplug the MAF. At stage 2 boost is around 21-24 depending on the car. If that thing rips now, it's going to be insane.

    The aftermarket seat is off, because the E36 seat bracket holes in the floor does not like up straight with the steering wheel. BMW fixed this by having the bracket off set, towards the tunnel. It's like this in E46 as well, and i think the E90 generation as well. Not sure why they did this. I think it's so the trans tunnel could be wider

    jimmy if the 1.8t boosting to 5psi it is in LIMP mode it more then likely is a engine fault code with n75 valve or map or maf sensor boost pressures go as follows for mk4 1.8t : AWP 1.8t engines are 180 hp @ 11 psi stock with a ko3s turbo , aww/awd are 150 hp @ 8-9 psi stock with a ko3 turbo.
    usually a stage 1 tune for these cars is 15psi and stage 2 is 20-23 psi

    You say you're cursed when it comes to coolant fills with the thermostat. They make a kit thats about 100 bucks that has a coolant pressure tester with a vacuum system. This may help you out. The vacuum system removes all air bubbles. BMW and VW are the worst for air pockets.

    Jimothy, pls teach LZ how to E36 style.. the JDM inspired kit doesn't do his car justice.
    Also, this thing sounds sick.

    I had the same issue when i put a Mishimoto rad in my SRT4 Neon. I bleed the system a bunch of times, tried different and lower temp thermostats and later even put the wires to a toggle switch but it just didn't like to stay cold after that rad swap.
