      She's naive, she's your typical popular high school girl trope, she was just unaware of the reality. I mean a waitress? That was her job, a waitress, she had her acting career but that didn't go anywhere. At least Christopher's acting career went well for him. He didn't quit because it didn't lead to nowhere, he was asked to leave because he's been doing it quite some time. Unlike Penny, Christopher had many acting roles, several hygiene, razor, and food commercials. He may not had a main role in TV shows but at least he appeared as a background character in them.

    • @michelb.5186
      @michelb.5186 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@VindexSolis it's not literally 1 million to 1. For it to be one million to one, if we assume your number (1700), there would have to be 1.7 billion people interested in a career as an NFL player. Not only that but the number 1700 is incorrect, there are roughly 1700 players active on NFL rosters during the season (53 per team), however that's not accounting for practice squad for example, during preseason there are 90 players per team, which would make that number 2880. Plus, there is a very high rotation in the NFL, yes there are players that play over a decade in the league but that's not the norm, on average an NFL player's career lasts 3 season, most of the players are out of the league by their third season and there are hundreds of new players that enter through the draft every year. However, with that being said, I agree in the figurative connotation of the phrase that a person's chance to make it in the NFL is "a million to one," and I do agree that people should be made aware of that just like in the video Leonard made Penny aware of how low the chances of succeeding in Hollywood really are.

    Actually, I think you can make a strong case for the fact that Penny is the most important character on the show. Every character that interacts with her comes out for the better. Sheldon learned to moderate his anit-social impulses and establish contact with others because of her. Raj got to the point of being able to talk to women without alcohol because of her acceptance of him as a trusted friend. Amy is clearly becoming more self-confident having Penny as a friend. Leonard has grown emotionally every season because of her. Just a thought...

    • @TheEtherny
      @TheEtherny 8 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      +xntric49 Yes, she is a very important character but I'd say the main one is Leonard, it was him that got all these people together, he was friends with Howard and Raj, was roommates with Sheldon and he approached Penny. Sheldon is the Icon, Leonard the Glue and Penny the evolver? I dunno, something like that.

    • @alltaken678
      @alltaken678 8 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      ***** Yes, you're right, and there's no argument that Sheldon is the superstar. But here's my belief: A less funny Sheldon would just be a less funny Sheldon, but a miscast Penny would have made the whole thing fall apart. We have to believe she's hawt and way out of Leonard's league, but we also have to believe her life is a mess and that her eventual pairing with Leonard is realistic after all. She, and they, pull it off perfectly.
      Of course, I'm talking about the first six or seven seasons, not the seasons we're in now that are just stretching things out for more money. The show should have ended with a happy wedding for Leonard and Penny, and it should have ended two seasons ago.

  • @Vashthestampede967

    Honestly ,I'm surprised that it took this long for anyone to tell her that acting wasn't going to happen. If she's been at this for over 5 years and hasn't gotten one role, then it ain't gonna happen. Leonard for telling her the truth is probably the best thing for her , since she isn't getting any younger and its time to face the real world while she has a chance to live a good life in it. We all get older and we all have to face reality at some point, even though it's sad and we hate it more than anything else imaginable we can't live in a dream forever and we gotta wake up sometime.

      I believe that you should always encourage people to follow their dreams and let the circumstances be the ones that judges if they're ready or not. It's better for them to realize these things on their own, not by someone's opinion, specially if that someone is special to them, their opinion means a lot and if you realize they don't believe in your dream it becomes more personal than objective.

    • @garytaylor3880
      @garytaylor3880 7 ปีที่แล้ว +84

      Denics well that's true unless the person demands that you be honest with them. Penny demanded honesty, he gave it to her and she couldn't handle it. Truth hurts, what Leonard said was true and it was high time she heard it. If I can avoid disappointment by someone telling me the honest truth I will not be arrogant enough to write them off. Often times it's better to go to the school of instruction instead of the school of hard knocks. You need to know the pros and cons honestly of what you getting into before just jumping in head first. I'll support my significant other's decisions in anything and she knows that and she also know I will give my honest opinion and the pros and cons of it. She unlike Penny can handle the truth cause she knows it does not mean I don't support her or that she's incapable of doing it. Penny and Leonard still had some growing in their relationship to do in this time. Eventually Penny will learn Leonard supports her no matter what regardless.

The belief that Penny wouldn't be a tv/movie star with awards is rational, and that opinion is probably the same with the other five in the group of friends.

I know because I've been in that position and it took me almost 3 years to get up from those kind of nightmare.

    Leonard had a point. Getting into acting is a 1 in a 1,000,000 chance. It's difficult for everyone and Penny needed to hear it. Why Penny got upset is beyond me. Maybe because it was the truth???
    Also, I like how TBBT had an episode of NCIS in it and an episode of NCIS had an episode of TBBT in it.
    Plus, when Penny said to her Dad that she didn't need to come to LA to beat up Mark Harmon I laughed a little because the actor who portrays Penny's father (Kieth Carradine) was in an episode of NCIS.

    I felt really bad for Penny in this episode and can actually relate somewhat. My sister and I were in an advert for our local library, they shot her in one scene and I was in several (nothing scripted, just us talking, reading, on the computer, etc.). We waited several months to see the final advert. When we finally saw it, my sister had been cut out completely and I barely made a cameo. We were both disappointed, but I felt worse for her. And sadly, Leonard is right about his honest opinion. He doesn't think Penny is talentless--on the contrary--but the truth is, it's very hard to be successful in life and get into careers like acting. It looks easy but the majority of people don't make it. It happens to a lot of talented people. Heck there are LOTS of talented people in acting who get little to no recognition or have short careers. It sucks but it's the reality :(

    Actually I think Sheldon would have done a better job at consoling her. Leonard means well but ends up being socially awkward and saying the wrong thing whereas Sheldon is soucally awkward about it consoling people, doesnt know what to say but just happens to end up saying the right thing. And he was socially "trained" by penny as well.
    Ofc it could be that people expect him to mess up and not say the right thing so arent disappointed by what they hear, or they dont want to shout at him when he's trying to help because they see him as childlike and treat him like a kid. Or because they know its hard for him abd uncomfortable so appreciate more that he's trying

    What Leonard says at the end that anyone making it as an actor/actress; the odds are a million-one.
    Yeah, but what about the people that do make it, sure some of them have to work and try really hard, but some who make it don't really have to try that hard sometimes, I mean some people who don't even have substantial experience make it, but then again, the effort in trying for the part is required and you always get accepted or rejected for a reason.
    The reason I'm saying this is because I've read about how some famous actors/actresses made it where they are today and where they started and for some of them; who didn't have a lot of experience in the business are more or less famous and successful to this day.

    I do feel for Penny, bc I also would love to achieve a nearly impossible dream (being a famous author), and I am talented and hard-working, but I also have taught myself to be realistic. Any creative field is EXTREMELY hard to be successful in, bc so many people want it, and most of those people are just as talented and hardworking as you. In the end, a lot of it isn’t up to you. Leonard wasn’t wrong for what he told her. He maybe could have been a tad more sensitive, or held off the bulk of his comments until Penny was more calm, but he definitely wasn’t in the wrong here.

    Penny bases her assumptions on the premise that life is fair and everyone gets what they deserve. The problem is not what Leonard is saying but how he is saying. Yes, there is million to one chance for an person to become a successful actor or actress and it takes a huge amount of talent, hard work, sacrifice to do that. What Leonard said to Penny was logical and practical and to the point but, that's not what you say to the people when they are feeling low. Again it's not Leonard fault either cause he doesn't know all social norms and things people need to say each other in different situation. I feel sorry for both Leonard and Penny.

      People tend to fall into 2 groups. WHAT to say and HOW to say. But there's more to it than that.
      1. What you say
      2. To whom you speak
      3. Of whom you speak
      4. How you say it
      5. When you say it

    I'm sorry penny didn't get the part she hoped for but guess what - that's life. i wanted to be classical violinist and travel the world. but I'm: in a dead end job, hardly have any friends, most of my family don't talk to me/involve me in their lives/think I'm stupid, struggling with infertility, overweight, I've got a seizure condition, type 2 diabetes...the list goes on. you get my point: life's full of disappointments. you gotta pick up the pieces and move on. i know, easier said than done but life is tough. penny's got potential, a nice hard-working boyfriend who truly cares for her, close friends, she's attractive (in a nice way), and she's smart to an extent. penny needs to get her whiny, selfish butt off the couch and open her eyes to what she's already got.

    From what I heard, it’s a combo of luck + skill. Being talented isn’t enough; it’s also a matter of being in the right place at the right time. And there’s a **WIDE** variety of reasons why scenes get cut. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re a bad actor, sometimes the people in charge feel like the scene wasn’t necessary. Which, for actors trying to get their foot in the door (get noticed), can make them feel like they got screwed over. Which sucks, but it happens.
