Why can't the US just get these elections done in a month? I know it's a big country, but do we have to suffer through an almost year long campaign every four years? And then when it's over they take another 2 months to get into office. There's a lot wrong with the UK where I'm from but at least we basically do the whole election in a month and have the new government in place 3 days afterwards.

What is happening now isn't the election, it is the primary. During this time, parties are deciding which candidate they will run in the election for the president, etc.

Voters voted. Percentages of Trump votes do not change because you chose to look at total vote counts. If the entire state voted the numbers would be very close to the current results.

@@KCMedia33 Maybe but remember in a caucus only the most motivated people will come out and more so in this case considering the weather. At a caucus you don't just vote for a candidate and leave. You have to sit through hours of procedure, speeches and motions as well as party business. If the weather had been good like it was in December you would have had a lot more people show up not just the MAGA loyalists.

Only 14% of the registered Republicans in the State of Iowa voted. So that means that he can only and absolutely claim a support of 56,400 among a total of 805,700. Looking at the numbers of Desantis and Haley their votes amounted each to a practical tie at an insignificant 2.5% of the 805,700. The uncertainty of these small percentage of votes makes this Iowa caucus a non- indicative event.
Trump is going to win '24.
Help is coming. And there is nothing you can do about it. But, when this economy turns around overnight I bet you'll be a more than willing participant.

It doesn't matter how many voted. If it was such a concern, they should turned in their ballots. To say that it would have made a difference if more voted is redundant, because they didn't even care enough to make an appearance.
It also should be noted, that this win will provide a domino effect, and other states WILL follow.

Anyway by that logic, 303,000 registered Democrat voters in New Hampshire, Biden gets 67,000 votes, 298,000 registered Republican voters in New Hampshire, Trump gets 178,000 votes. So if you're saying Trump getting 7.5% of those eligible to vote is bad in Iowa, what does that say for both of them, especially for Biden, in New Hampshire?
Trump sees the courthouse appearances as campaign stops that don't cost him any money beyond transportation. He doesn't have to have an expensive rally if he can just stand on courthouse steps for the free coverage of his campaign speech. Until convicted, this is going to work to his political benefit.

Lets do the math: 14% of eligible voters showed up to vote, Trump won 51% of that vote. So he had 51% of 14% = about 7.5% of the vote.

I grew up in Iowa, 2 days after my 18th birthday i joined the Army only went back every couple of years to visit. Then did not go back. I could never support someone that saluted a N. Korean, where I served 2 tours in the DMZ.

This is in essence a general election with two incumbents running. I find it frustrating that folks seem to forget that 1. Iowa had a low turnout in a small state which also is not very diverse at all, and 2. trump is virtually an incumbent running for re-election, yet only managed to scrape up half the Republican vote in a primary. Pretty weak showing for trump, it you ask me!

I was actually wondering about that. What is the percentage of people who voted in this primary vs. the last one. From what I read, roughly 77,000 less Iowans voted in this primary vs. 2016.
There are 752,000 registered republican voters in Iowa. 110,298 showed up to caucus. That's only 15%. Weather may have had something to do with the turnout but maybe we can hope that they didn't show up because they can't stand trump.

Thank you, Mr. Miller, for bringing this up, even if your numbers were not quite right. There are about 600,000 active Republican voters registered in Iowa and 150,000 or so inactive. Total: 750,000 or so...of whom....about 15%, just 15%, made their preferences known in the caucuses.
Let us now look forward to the turnout in NH in eight days. 2016: 286,000. 2024: ????
