I am Nigerian woman, I don't understand the language but the music from Mali is therapeutic to my soul, especially music by Ali Farka Toure. I have all his cds. Rest In Peace Baba!
The Mali is a country where one of the oldest universities in the world was found, the Timbuktu civilization was also there. We know Mansa Musa also, the richest man of the planet earth till this time and a humble leader. Malian music is also a healing remedy for the soul, Ali Ibrahim Toure the greatest guitarist and singer of mama Africa!!!! This is Nurhussain, from the very east of the continent,Ethiopia, the African capital❤❤❤
Nothing beautiful as african music. We africans, give the music ingredients like no others. Arguably, Mali is the NO.1 leading nation in music on the entirety of Africa. May God bless Mali and its people with peace and prosperity.
He is just the best! I lived in Mali and I can assure you that the country is full of talents from south to north….Blues is everywhere you go…Mali is my country ❤️

Wel said brother. Ali is the music king of our world. I am addicted to listening to his music and trying out on guitar. Crazy fan of Ali Farka Toure, the desert blues founder. From Ethiopia
I keep returning to this music, not just Ali Farka Touré’s but the vast Malian oeuvre, wondering what makes it perfect for the soul. I don’t understand the alchemy, but I feel its incomparably wonderful effect in my nerves, sinews and bones.
The chemistry amongst the band players is sublime. I could listen to this very performance on repeat for years and not get bored. You’ve not listened to great music if you’ve never listened to Ali Farka Touré. He’s indeed a maestro and a great legend. I’m Nigerian yet, musically Malian 💯😎🎇
I met mr toure when I was ten years old with my dad in Timbuktu hotel.. he was a gentle soul. My dad was a diplomat.. unbelievable musician we Africans always bring soul and real ness when comes to music. Rest in peace Ali. 😘
What sticks out to me about his playing is the storytelling quality in it. So few musicians capture such a thing but Ali Farka Toure and Toumani Diabate are storytelling masters
Moro no Brasil, e simplesmente me apaixonei pelo som de Ali Farka, eu amo o blues e suas diversas ramificações culturais espalhadas pelo mundo. A África é o berço do blues, e isso é incrível. 🥰
“Touré had great success at these competitions and ended up heading to Bulgaria to represent Mali internationally. It was during this trip that he bought his first guitar, and it was also the first time that he heard the music that was being produced by African Americans in the United States during the 1960s, of which Touré instantly became a fan. He was particularly fond of the music of John Lee Hooker and has stated that, “The first time I heard John Lee Hooker, I heard his music but I said ‘I don’t understand this, where did they come up with this culture? This is something that belongs to us.” While Toure’s work is wonderful, he heard a unique concoction coming from the cotton fields of the American south and then merged it again with is own culture. Other than vocals, because that’s all we had, the Blackman in America with the use of the guitar created the blues. The only thing we had of Africa was a subconscious rhythm, stripped of everything else, and we then produced a unique sound (with the use of European instruments, our hands and feet) that rocked the globe.

Just discovered this AMAZING, EXTREMELY talented musician for the first time and I am mesmerized by his music, FANTASTIC !! Can't get enough of it already !!!
Sublime. Don't you just laugh when Rolling Stone or other deluded entities name 50, 100 or so greatest guitarists? What do they know of Ali Farka Toure, Victor Uwaifo, Franco and other masters from the African continent?
I got hooked to the music of ali farka 1995 during a desert trip in southern algeria in the hoggar desert as the guides played his cassettes and i m hooked since then…

It's always disheartening to see even ONE thumbs down for things like this. As a U.S. American I so appreciate the beauty of this man and his music. A beautiful soul. Said he would never play here because he would "only be dried sh*t and no smell would stick to anyone." That's obviously not true except for the aforementioned negative souls giving him a thumbs down (59 to date).

White European but I feel the same.
He's singing in French. Mali is the source of the blues.
Right
I don't know why Nigerian musicians seems to have lost it with regards to maintaining the cultural components
