Rick: “I’m not the good guy anymore.” This was an interesting episode because it finally did bring the showdown between Rick and Shane that we knew was coming. Rick may regret saving Shane, but he would have regretted even more, leaving him to the zombies. Beth’s attempt at suicide really is representing the hopelessness that is reasonable in her situation (we shouldn't forget that the whole barn situation was her 1st real exposure to the reality of things). I feel like Shane would survive if Rick left him. Shane would escape and come back for revenge. The way Shane thinks could lead him to escape the zombies that were coming after him.
It's still very early post outbreak and the group are still essentially in hunter-gatherer mode. Shane is right, you dont need to be a monster, but you cant be Ghandi either. You dont have the luxury for it. Maybe if you can build a huge, secure community of like minded people in a secure, defensible place and you have the manpower and resources to farm and raise livestock in safety, then you can afford to be more compassionate. But this group is not in that place, mentally or physically. At the moment at least, they are living a hand-to-mouth existence in a brutal and dangerous world and their philosophy of life needs to be dictated by that ...at least for now.
One other thing Rob, you mentioned there should be no gender roles ...and that fine but again is our world politics appropriate for the apocalypse? Yes, all the men can do the washing, but can all the women fight as well as the men? Maybe Andrea, Maggie and Lori could hold their own and Maybe Hershel and Dale would get their asses kicked? If it really is an issue for them, then I would resolve it by having a boxing tournament with every member of the group taking part and no gender separation. The half of the group that win the majority of their fights, become the soldiers, the other half do the washing up. If anyone doesnt want to take part, then that is fine but they have automatically self-selected for domestic duties as a consequence. That takes all the politics out of it. In fact MMA competitions, marksmanship competitions etc and the training that goes with it, should be required reading anyway. Oh and re knife fighting - you know you said you have 'concerns' about someone who would thrust multiple times ...well quite right, but that's how you win a knife fight mate. It's not sword fencing. There is a saying that the loser of a knife fight dies on the street, the winner dies in hospital. They are the most brutal things you can imagine (I was an ITU nurse for 20 years) ...and the only way you 'win' is by attacking your opponent like a sewing machine. No skill required, just frenzy and if you are really, really lucky, the ferocity of your attack, might mean you only get stabbed a few times in response.
This show is all about holding on to your humanity when the world goes to shit and you will revisit this theme again and again, the chatacter development a constant metamorphosis and its what made this show so amazing
The last shot of Shane looking at the walker in the field, I’ve always interpreted it as Shane feeling like that Walker, he feels all alone, he feels like an outcast, he feels dead inside, he feels like no one cares about him, he’s angry on the outside but depressed on the inside, him looking at the walker all alone in the field symbolizes how he feels about himself and how alone he is

That's how I view it. He feels that way when he first sees the walker in the field, then he goes through this whole scenario with Rick and truly realises that they're practically brothers. But even after all that the walker is still in the same place, and so is Shane.
I think the two dead security men are a reflection of Shane and Rick. They show what Shane and Rick were once ... Policemen and friends. Now they are neither the one nor the other. The Walkers stand for death. The death of the friendship and the death of police officers Shane and Rick. Maybe also for the death of law, order and justice. Great visual language
@@robtrinreact2825 Actually I read somewhere that the cops were shown, to give more background to the 2 guys from the bar. They said that they got the guns from cops and that they were already dead, but these guys were shot in the head and didn't have a scratch/bite. :) of course just interesting fact. The metaphor is still there
I believe the 2 dead security men are there to hint to Rick and Shane that you turn to a zombie when you die. Up until now, they think you must be bitten or scratched to be exposed.
@@garythompsant1050 2X7 is the best TWD episode ever. Has perfect storytteling and pace, every actor gave them top performance and the end twist was a great punch in peoples stomach. From season 3 and forward is downhill. The acting become so cringe that you root for the zombies to kill every cringe character.
@@mindelos1706 season 1 and 2 don’t even have an episode in the top 25 except 2x12 and 2x13. Season 3 has like 5 episodes in the top 25 and the rest are just amazing too. Season 3’s worst episodes are literally almost better than season 2’s best.
We can all agree that season 2 was one of the best written seasons of the show, but when it comes to any other category like pacing, cinematography, action, gore etc, it comes close to last.
Don’t EVER compare Rick and Shane together. Shane would cut ANYONE’S throat for his own opportunistic pursuits. Yep…..Shane throws everyone under the bus!! Rick seems to be the last of humanity struggling for existence, but not at the expense of others. Jon Beranthall (Shane) is one of the great actors of this awesome ensemble of actors. Kudos to you for watching TWD from the beginning. We knew you would love it.
The Shane shooting Otis thing always cracked me up. "Oh, there isn't time for us to both hobble away from the zombies!" Yet, they seemed to have plenty of time to have a 5-minute MMA match on the ground after Otis got shot.🤣
I can't agree with you guys on the Beth and Andrea situation because to me Andrea just did that because she feels like her choice was taken away by Dale, but if Amy was still alive and Amy told her she wanted to commit suicide, she would NEVER let her do that or suggest she do. Yeah Beth is alive, but if she did end of dying what then? Her whole approach was really dumb to me. Other than that I still enjoyed you guys reaction, can't wait for the next one!
you asked when the leadership of the group changed from shane to rick: it was S1E3, when rick came back with the group members that were stranded in the dept store - AFTER saving them. remember, shane told amy that the group mbrs that went into the city were gone and lost bc they weren’t going to find them, HE wasn’t going to find them and wouldn’t let anyone else take resources and go either. and if that didn’t prove to them how worthy they were to leadership, he left and went back to get merle, someone no one liked, in S1E4, and convinced other grp mbrs to go with. that let them know that shane’s enthusiasm for being a leader depended on whom he liked, and if they maybe had an argument with him the day bf they got in trouble, he would not help them, but rick certainly would. is that a guarantee of his reaction, no, but it IS a definite possibility due to his unhinged possessiveness of someone else’s wife and child and THAT’S why the leadership scale tilted in rick’s favor. the group has more faith in rick than shane bc rick is dependable and values their lives even though they aren’t lori or carl. shane is biased and damaged and a detriment to the group as a whole. rick isn’t perfect but he is the leader they need because he values them all, not just his direct family. to him they ALL are his family.
Nah completely wrong first off Shane mentioned that in camp with the group missing in a fracking huge city it would be like finding a needle in a hay stack lets not forget because of Rick they were all trapped inside a store with so many zombies outside it was only a matter time before they broke threw the windows. It was Glen who saved the idiot Rick who would died first of all the people we love on TWD because of his stupid choices sorry but Rick in the beginning was in a coma and totally stupid compare to Shane. The sad part about this show is Rick to everyone was made a hero of the show we followed him threw out the beginning people gravitate always to the star of the show. But reality is Rick made stupid choice first was getting caught in a city full of dead people then trapped in a tank then he handcuffed a man to a rail on top of a building who cut off his own hand to get free or he would of died there so where was humanity then Rick. We make excuses for Rick choices but then again he took 2/3 of the fighting force back to look for the guy he left on the roof leaving camp defended by pretty much only Shane the rest were Sac lambs! Everyone tells ya Shane wouldn't save the people of the group but before Rick arrived they were all alive right? None of them were dead until Rick arrived then one by one they got killed off. Shane Sac Otis to save Carl , Who left Sofia at the creek in the first place was it Shane or Rick? Another terrible choice 2 walkers should of been handle bye Rick sorry another stupid move. This is a perfect example of Rick being stupid once the kid knew where the farm was they should of killed him hands down the right choice right there at the school they could of told everyone else they let him go but Rick told Shane he could make the hard choices no he still cant bringing him back to the farm is completely the worse choice bringing him back to the farm the first time was the stupidest thing. Rick has already screwed it up he has turned Shane against his judgement its not just Lori that's a cop out by you guys he fell in love with Lori after he thought Rick was dead he has always loved Rick and Lori because they're best friends. O by the way the 1st character pick for this show was John who plays Shane they were going to have him play Rick believe it or not he was the number one actor they wanted then the writer decided your perfect for the Shane role. Little tidbits from TWD Also the actress who played Lori stated herself the difference between Rick and Shane was one would go off all the time the other stayed and protected everyone you needed both guys in this group to keep everyone safe. I agree with her 150% the group was way stronger with both men!
All of these episodes are sooo good, I can't pick a favorite. The imagery, content, and the desperation on Shane's face when Rick comes back. People never make the best choices in moments of hurt, grief, pain or anger. Leaving Beth alone to decide wasn't the right call. As we saw, she was lost in her grief, slit her wrist and then, in a moment of clarity, realized it wasn't what she wanted. It was pure luck she had that clarity and that others were there to help her. I bet lots of people IRL haven't been so lucky. :( Besides, Andrea's own experience should have actually taught her the importance of being looked after in these moments of grief. She lost her sister, wanted to die and only lived because Dale forced her hand. She was angry at him initially, but now that some time has passed, she had made the decision to live. If not for Dale "forcing her hand", she never would have been able to make that choices. She would have let herself die because she was lost in her grief. She should see how important it is to help people through these experiences rather than leaving them to their own misery and choices.
Really loved your discussion in the end !! I mean yes. Hypothetically speaking Shane‘s group would be free of infiltration because he’d just kill every person that randomly crosses them and would definitely be able to keep his family safe for the moment but the big problems I see with someone having a philosophy like Shane it’s nothing for long time survival because 1. Of course keeping your tiny group safe is a priority but at some point you just eventually need the help of others and be able to work together with others who maybe have more food supplies than you or more weapons then you or a better and safer place to stay at then you. Even tho it’s risky, being able to expand your group will not only guarantee your survival on a long time basis but will also provide you with a stronger force of people where we would enter 2. There’s always someone who’s bigger and better potentially more ruthless than you. You need to take into account that now that society’s rules no longer exist that there are all kinds of messed up and dangerous people around. You just need the numbers to potentially defend yourself 3. In this world you need to be able to adapt to situations and Shane just isn’t able to do that. He’s way too hot headed in my opinion and always wants to get his will, not being able to adapt to certain situations and overthink them twice before acting- even tho it can drag on and complicate things sometimes- is what could potentially decide between you and your family getting killed or survive 4. You need a group and leader you can trust 100%. You don’t want someone in there who’d easily throw people under the bus was nice to hear your opinion on all this!🙋🏼♀️ can’t wait for your reaction to one hell of a finale that season 2 is and I’m already so excited for the tier list !
You guys are really good in reacting, very observant and thoughtful. You actually pick up a lot of things that other people don's see. I think seasons 1-3 my favorite, Rick slow transformation and him adapting to the new world still gets me every time.
Love this episode! I think the lone walker reminds shane of himself. He had an instant family to care for and loves them. He thinks he has a baby on the way and Rick came back and took it all away and he's alone again.
I don't know that Shane would be the type to worry about being _alone, (there's still Andrea)_ I think he's more upset that Rick has come in and TAKEN what he believes is HIS and because Lori won't admit her feelings for him that he believes she has, there's nothing he can really do at this point.
I love how this episode is literally Rick taking Shane to “school” at a school. To me that’s not accidental. I think he shows Shane not just new skills, but also new ways of looking at things. Shane is too stubborn to accept a lot of it, but I do think that this episode makes Shane respect Rick more than he did before. At some moments it feels like Rick is putting Shane into submission, just because Rick does have the natural alpha leadership within him. Shane does have the tough exterior, but Rick has the mind for survival. 13:48 Did you guys realize the Shane reflection in that window is intentionally making him look like a walker? Almost like a, what has he become kind of thing, dead inside. I relate that to him seeing the walker in the field as well. I have to say I strongly disagree with Andrea leaving Beth alone. She could have died. I see what she was trying to do but that was way too hasty. People can be rehabilitated out of that state in other ways. In my view, she has now almost killed Daryl, Beth, and herself, out of sheer stupidity. She’s very consistent and well written, but I don’t like the character, just my opinion lol.
Andrea was completely wrong. If you had a loved one who was really upset after a loss you wouldn't want them to make such a big decision of suicide when you are emotionally vulnerable. You are always more vulnerable to thoughts of suicide after a trauma and you can usually overcome it with time and help. Plus, it was not Andrea's decision. It wasn't her sister and you would never just say OK, here is a knife and go for it if you want, to someone you love.

Personally I was sooo not on Andrea's side with the Beth situation. It was irresponsible and Beth is a child. She might've regretted the decision but it was luck that they helped her in time and it wasn't Andrea's place to risk Beth dying imo
My opinion: Shane did not have to kill Otis! They were ahead of the walkers, he could have taken the bag from Otis to lighten his load (being a heavier, maybe out of shape guy) and said, "I am not waiting for you, good luck. I hope you make it to the truck" and just ran ahead. Then waited a few minutes at the truck. Otis would have understood, he may have even agreed with the plan! But he was not given that choice.
This was a huge turning point for Rick and Shane when it came to their relationship in my opinion. It always blows my mind how many times Rick offers that olive leaf to him. It’s hard when your best friend and brother has become someone you don’t recognize anymore. In my opinion I also felt that Maggie was in the right to be angry. She had left Andrea in her sisters care. Knowing she was extremely fragile. Though Andrea basically did what She had condemned Dale for doing to her. The difference is, Dale never left her. Beth was mentally not right and though she was sorry for choice she made. In the end, it was the hypocrisy that made me angry at her.
Shane was fighting to kill Rick, Rick was fighting Shane as a MAN, saying, don’t speak about my wife & kid again, and don’t question my will and skill to protect them. Shane would have definitely left Rick. Beth is 17 years old, so I’m with Lori & Maggie on the suicide thing. Although, I do understand Beth’s struggle. Her entire world just crumbled in the barn episode. She’s a teen, but she’s still a child. But, I’m 1000% on Andrea’s side when she told off Lori about everything else. Lori is so damn entitled and judgmental. She gets on andrea about wanting to guard the camp instead of doing “womanly” tasks, but didn’t Lori just run off on a pointless trip to get Rick, and crash?? This was the episode where I really started disliking lori.
Rick was fighting full on and Shane was just trying to kill Randal, the only time where Shane was paying full attention on killing Rick was when he launched the wrench at Rick.
Than you dont actually know Lori? Like did her speech to Dale not tell you anything. This isnt about being "womanly" if Andrea was actually pulling her weight and actually doing stuff like the guys. Going out hunting, getting supplies than she wouldnt of said anything but all andrea did was sit up on a car and do nothing, which made the other women have to do double the work . Lori is not entitled shes realistic, she knows she not strong enough to do what the others do so she sticks to what shes good at. The first time she tried to actually do something she crashed a car. She also not judgmental what so ever bc shes been judged plenty by andrea and others. Lori only goal is to make sure others dont hate Rick for the chooses he makes bc they choose him to lead and to make sure they get back to some type of normal. Its strange how all Lori tries to do is survive and she condemned for it. The unjustified hate she gets is ridiculous. Shes hated bc she doesnt want to loose her husband after getting him back. She hated bc she wants to go back to how things were bc shes scared of the futuer, she hated for some dumb reason bc people blame her for Shanes sociopathic idiocy. They even blame her for when Shane tried to rape her. Some how it's always her fault, its ridiculous.
I agree with the 17 yo thing kind of... Having been suicidal though, it is better to let them decide they want to live. If you are just keeping them from doing it, one day they will sneak off and really do it perhaps. Better to let them taste what they are doing and go oh shit - I don't want to die. Especially in a situation like this.... I do think Andrea is a bit extreme on this, but I think Laurie is the other end of extreme. He said Laurie said to give her time to make her mind up. I agree time usually makes it go away, like a few hours. But I thought Laurie was on the side of absolutely taking the decision away period.

Both Lori and Rick (at this point) are trying to maintain a world that really doesn't exist anymore, Shane is right about that. They ALL need to be able to protect THEMSELVES and each other. If this were real, you would soon find out that the strict OLD roles don't really work! The only person in this group that could survive on their own out there is 'Daryl'. And I bet he does know how to wash his own clothes... not saying he'll ever do it, lol.

And yes Dayrl is pretty much the only one good at really surviving but Shane is never right about anything. Everything he does is for power or for some twisted way to get Lori. He would and has put lives at stake to simple get what he wants. That is why rick is a better leader and hes barely one. Yes they need to be able to protect themselves but there are ways to go about it that doesnt burden the rest of the group. Andrea cared more about trying to prove shes one of the boys and that she wasnt as " weak" as Lori or Carol.(even though we know how strong they are) instead of helping the group. She almost killed Daryl and beth bc of her attitude.

I am a huge TWD fan and have watched each season too many times to count…I never get tired of seeing these episodes. However, watching your reactions and how you’re both interrupting the characters and their decisions are fascinating to watch. Shane is a strong character and has majorly contributed to the group’s survival…but, you’re right about contemplating that he is doing it …not for the good of the group, but for his own gains. This is probably my favorite episode of the entire series. I'm excited for this. And Trin Jon Bernthal who plays Shane is a boxer in real life, at least for exercise. You are spot on there!
Season 2 is one of the best seasons with great acting and character development. From season 3 the writing became inconsistent and the acting pretty cringe.
@@sunvinn Michone is one of the cringe characters i am talking about! I liked her introdution but then everything about her seems forced for you to like her at any cost. Then they nerf Daril by making him way too soft like a girl and Rick is way too crazy like the Jocker from Batman . And dialogues and interactions between characters become unbearable. Thats why i rooted for the zombies from season 3 and beyond.
Late to the party today! :D I think Lori and Andrea are showing the differences between women very well. Lori is a more conservative woman in my opinion, she takes pride in her femininity and motherhood. That's why she cares for the traditionally female work - laundry and cooking and all that. Andrea on the other hand wants to be able to protect herself because she feels out of control. She's lost her sister, and since she had to learn how to shoot, she couldn't do so before - probably taking on the "women duties" herself. She's realized that you can't always count on the others of the group, the men, to protect her. While Lori always took a step behind her husband, watching his back but not stepping to the front lines. Andrea is playing with open cards. If she's pointing a gun at you, she is thinking of shooting you. Lori is whispering into Rick's ear like she's done with Shane. She is always looking for someone else to protect her.
To be honest i never liked Shane from the beggining, don't know why 😀 maybe he seems selfish to me, he is dangerous, also a little bit creapy charakter to me, you never know what Shane is up to 😬 great video, thank you!🥰

One of my favorite music moments in ANYTHING. That song is Civilian by Wye Oak in case you don’t know, I’m looking forward to seeing your reaction to that part of you show it. Also I definitely think that Andrea was in the wrong, BUT I do see where she was coming from. I’ve struggled with being suicidal myself, and plus in THIS world not wanting to live makes even more sense. Letting her “decide” while her brain is basically mush from grief is a bad call though, because you just aren’t thinking clearly in that state.

We all went through the speculation, the theories, the opinions. Don't let anybody rag on you for doing the same thing. It's part of the process. There's so much to this show, so many interesting things it brings up for us to think about. That's one of the reasons the show is so great. My sister and I still talk about these early seasons, and there are still things that don't have a "definitive" answer.

Unfortunately BSG reactions gets hit by strikes frequently on YT, hence why there's so few, so that it would take too much of their limited time at the moment to edit and try get through blocks etc so atm is patreon only and Rob solo, despite them not wanting patreon only content it was only way to fit it in for now. We made sure to warn them of watch order and other things. Near end of S1 now, they come pretty regular due to not needing both Trin and Robs time free, tho Trin is watching Rob's reactions along with us. I believe they said its possible they may manage to get it out in future depending on time, but compared to other shows its an uphill struggle keeping the vids up
@@lemmy303 Thanks for the info, it's sad to hear that the owners of BSG are so strict, it seems to me that it would be in their best interest to keep people thinking about the aging franchise so that can continue selling the old series and ensure an audience whenever they get around to trying to make more off the I.P. Oh well, it's still in my top 10 to 20 best sci fi shows ever, the 2 part miniseries had my jaw hanging open when watching it when it came out, really was done great, and I never thought Starbuck as a girl was ever going to work out, but boy was I wrong at the time.

This was an interesting episode because it finally did bring the showdown between Rick and Shane that we knew was coming.
Rick may regret saving Shane, but he would have regretted even more, leaving him to the zombies.
Beth’s attempt at suicide really is representing the hopelessness that is reasonable in her situation (we shouldn't forget that the whole barn situation was her 1st real exposure to the reality of things).

I feel like Shane would survive if Rick left him. Shane would escape and come back for revenge. The way Shane thinks could lead him to escape the zombies that were coming after him.
It's still very early post outbreak and the group are still essentially in hunter-gatherer mode. Shane is right, you dont need to be a monster, but you cant be Ghandi either. You dont have the luxury for it. Maybe if you can build a huge, secure community of like minded people in a secure, defensible place and you have the manpower and resources to farm and raise livestock in safety, then you can afford to be more compassionate. But this group is not in that place, mentally or physically. At the moment at least, they are living a hand-to-mouth existence in a brutal and dangerous world and their philosophy of life needs to be dictated by that ...at least for now.

One other thing Rob, you mentioned there should be no gender roles ...and that fine but again is our world politics appropriate for the apocalypse? Yes, all the men can do the washing, but can all the women fight as well as the men? Maybe Andrea, Maggie and Lori could hold their own and Maybe Hershel and Dale would get their asses kicked? If it really is an issue for them, then I would resolve it by having a boxing tournament with every member of the group taking part and no gender separation. The half of the group that win the majority of their fights, become the soldiers, the other half do the washing up. If anyone doesnt want to take part, then that is fine but they have automatically self-selected for domestic duties as a consequence. That takes all the politics out of it. In fact MMA competitions, marksmanship competitions etc and the training that goes with it, should be required reading anyway.
Oh and re knife fighting - you know you said you have 'concerns' about someone who would thrust multiple times ...well quite right, but that's how you win a knife fight mate. It's not sword fencing. There is a saying that the loser of a knife fight dies on the street, the winner dies in hospital. They are the most brutal things you can imagine (I was an ITU nurse for 20 years) ...and the only way you 'win' is by attacking your opponent like a sewing machine. No skill required, just frenzy and if you are really, really lucky, the ferocity of your attack, might mean you only get stabbed a few times in response.
This show is all about holding on to your humanity when the world goes to shit and you will revisit this theme again and again, the chatacter development a constant metamorphosis and its what made this show so amazing
The last shot of Shane looking at the walker in the field, I’ve always interpreted it as Shane feeling like that Walker, he feels all alone, he feels like an outcast, he feels dead inside, he feels like no one cares about him, he’s angry on the outside but depressed on the inside, him looking at the walker all alone in the field symbolizes how he feels about himself and how alone he is

That's how I view it. He feels that way when he first sees the walker in the field, then he goes through this whole scenario with Rick and truly realises that they're practically brothers. But even after all that the walker is still in the same place, and so is Shane.

I think the two dead security men are a reflection of Shane and Rick.
They show what Shane and Rick were once ... Policemen and friends. Now they are neither the one nor the other. The Walkers stand for death. The death of the friendship and the death of police officers Shane and Rick. Maybe also for the death of law, order and justice.

They said that they got the guns from cops and that they were already dead, but these guys were shot in the head and didn't have a scratch/bite. :) of course just interesting fact. The metaphor is still there
I believe the 2 dead security men are there to hint to Rick and Shane that you turn to a zombie when you die. Up until now, they think you must be bitten or scratched to be exposed.

We can all agree that season 2 was one of the best written seasons of the show, but when it comes to any other category like pacing, cinematography, action, gore etc, it comes close to last.
Don’t EVER compare Rick and Shane together. Shane would cut ANYONE’S throat for his own opportunistic pursuits. Yep…..Shane throws everyone under the bus!! Rick seems to be the last of humanity struggling for existence, but not at the expense of others. Jon Beranthall (Shane) is one of the great actors of this awesome ensemble of actors. Kudos to you for watching TWD from the beginning. We knew you would love it.

I can't agree with you guys on the Beth and Andrea situation because to me Andrea just did that because she feels like her choice was taken away by Dale, but if Amy was still alive and Amy told her she wanted to commit suicide, she would NEVER let her do that or suggest she do. Yeah Beth is alive, but if she did end of dying what then? Her whole approach was really dumb to me. Other than that I still enjoyed you guys reaction, can't wait for the next one!
you asked when the leadership of the group changed from shane to rick: it was S1E3, when rick came back with the group members that were stranded in the dept store - AFTER saving them. remember, shane told amy that the group mbrs that went into the city were gone and lost bc they weren’t going to find them, HE wasn’t going to find them and wouldn’t let anyone else take resources and go either. and if that didn’t prove to them how worthy they were to leadership, he left and went back to get merle, someone no one liked, in S1E4, and convinced other grp mbrs to go with. that let them know that shane’s enthusiasm for being a leader depended on whom he liked, and if they maybe had an argument with him the day bf they got in trouble, he would not help them, but rick certainly would. is that a guarantee of his reaction, no, but it IS a definite possibility due to his unhinged possessiveness of someone else’s wife and child and THAT’S why the leadership scale tilted in rick’s favor. the group has more faith in rick than shane bc rick is dependable and values their lives even though they aren’t lori or carl. shane is biased and damaged and a detriment to the group as a whole. rick isn’t perfect but he is the leader they need because he values them all, not just his direct family. to him they ALL are his family.

Nah completely wrong first off Shane mentioned that in camp with the group missing in a fracking huge city it would be like finding a needle in a hay stack lets not forget because of Rick they were all trapped inside a store with so many zombies outside it was only a matter time before they broke threw the windows. It was Glen who saved the idiot Rick who would died first of all the people we love on TWD because of his stupid choices sorry but Rick in the beginning was in a coma and totally stupid compare to Shane. The sad part about this show is Rick to everyone was made a hero of the show we followed him threw out the beginning people gravitate always to the star of the show. But reality is Rick made stupid choice first was getting caught in a city full of dead people then trapped in a tank then he handcuffed a man to a rail on top of a building who cut off his own hand to get free or he would of died there so where was humanity then Rick. We make excuses for Rick choices but then again he took 2/3 of the fighting force back to look for the guy he left on the roof leaving camp defended by pretty much only Shane the rest were Sac lambs! Everyone tells ya Shane wouldn't save the people of the group but before Rick arrived they were all alive right? None of them were dead until Rick arrived then one by one they got killed off. Shane Sac Otis to save Carl , Who left Sofia at the creek in the first place was it Shane or Rick? Another terrible choice 2 walkers should of been handle bye Rick sorry another stupid move. This is a perfect example of Rick being stupid once the kid knew where the farm was they should of killed him hands down the right choice right there at the school they could of told everyone else they let him go but Rick told Shane he could make the hard choices no he still cant bringing him back to the farm is completely the worse choice bringing him back to the farm the first time was the stupidest thing. Rick has already screwed it up he has turned Shane against his judgement its not just Lori that's a cop out by you guys he fell in love with Lori after he thought Rick was dead he has always loved Rick and Lori because they're best friends. O by the way the 1st character pick for this show was John who plays Shane they were going to have him play Rick believe it or not he was the number one actor they wanted then the writer decided your perfect for the Shane role. Little tidbits from TWD Also the actress who played Lori stated herself the difference between Rick and Shane was one would go off all the time the other stayed and protected everyone you needed both guys in this group to keep everyone safe. I agree with her 150% the group was way stronger with both men!

People never make the best choices in moments of hurt, grief, pain or anger. Leaving Beth alone to decide wasn't the right call.
As we saw, she was lost in her grief, slit her wrist and then, in a moment of clarity, realized it wasn't what she wanted. It was pure luck she had that clarity and that others were there to help her. I bet lots of people IRL haven't been so lucky. :(
Besides, Andrea's own experience should have actually taught her the importance of being looked after in these moments of grief. She lost her sister, wanted to die and only lived because Dale forced her hand. She was angry at him initially, but now that some time has passed, she had made the decision to live. If not for Dale "forcing her hand", she never would have been able to make that choices. She would have let herself die because she was lost in her grief. She should see how important it is to help people through these experiences rather than leaving them to their own misery and choices.

I mean yes. Hypothetically speaking Shane‘s group would be free of infiltration because he’d just kill every person that randomly crosses them and would definitely be able to keep his family safe for the moment but the big problems I see with someone having a philosophy like Shane it’s nothing for long time survival because
1. Of course keeping your tiny group safe is a priority but at some point you just eventually need the help of others and be able to work together with others who maybe have more food supplies than you or more weapons then you or a better and safer place to stay at then you. Even tho it’s risky, being able to expand your group will not only guarantee your survival on a long time basis but will also provide you with a stronger force of people where we would enter 2. There’s always someone who’s bigger and better potentially more ruthless than you. You need to take into account that now that society’s rules no longer exist that there are all kinds of messed up and dangerous people around. You just need the numbers to potentially defend yourself 3. In this world you need to be able to adapt to situations and Shane just isn’t able to do that. He’s way too hot headed in my opinion and always wants to get his will, not being able to adapt to certain situations and overthink them twice before acting- even tho it can drag on and complicate things sometimes- is what could potentially decide between you and your family getting killed or survive 4. You need a group and leader you can trust 100%. You don’t want someone in there who’d easily throw people under the bus

Look back at the conversation between Shane & Rick before Rick got shot. It shows who Shane really is.
You guys are really good in reacting, very observant and thoughtful. You actually pick up a lot of things that other people don's see. I think seasons 1-3 my favorite, Rick slow transformation and him adapting to the new world still gets me every time.
Love this episode! I think the lone walker reminds shane of himself. He had an instant family to care for and loves them. He thinks he has a baby on the way and Rick came back and took it all away and he's alone again.
I don't know that Shane would be the type to worry about being _alone, (there's still Andrea)_ I think he's more upset that Rick has come in and TAKEN what he believes is HIS and because Lori won't admit her feelings for him that he believes she has, there's nothing he can really do at this point.
I love how this episode is literally Rick taking Shane to “school” at a school. To me that’s not accidental. I think he shows Shane not just new skills, but also new ways of looking at things. Shane is too stubborn to accept a lot of it, but I do think that this episode makes Shane respect Rick more than he did before. At some moments it feels like Rick is putting Shane into submission, just because Rick does have the natural alpha leadership within him. Shane does have the tough exterior, but Rick has the mind for survival.
13:48 Did you guys realize the Shane reflection in that window is intentionally making him look like a walker? Almost like a, what has he become kind of thing, dead inside. I relate that to him seeing the walker in the field as well.
I have to say I strongly disagree with Andrea leaving Beth alone. She could have died. I see what she was trying to do but that was way too hasty. People can be rehabilitated out of that state in other ways. In my view, she has now almost killed Daryl, Beth, and herself, out of sheer stupidity. She’s very consistent and well written, but I don’t like the character, just my opinion lol.

Andrea was completely wrong. If you had a loved one who was really upset after a loss you wouldn't want them to make such a big decision of suicide when you are emotionally vulnerable. You are always more vulnerable to thoughts of suicide after a trauma and you can usually overcome it with time and help. Plus, it was not Andrea's decision. It wasn't her sister and you would never just say OK, here is a knife and go for it if you want, to someone you love.

Personally I was sooo not on Andrea's side with the Beth situation. It was irresponsible and Beth is a child. She might've regretted the decision but it was luck that they helped her in time and it wasn't Andrea's place to risk Beth dying imo
My opinion: Shane did not have to kill Otis! They were ahead of the walkers, he could have taken the bag from Otis to lighten his load (being a heavier, maybe out of shape guy) and said, "I am not waiting for you, good luck. I hope you make it to the truck" and just ran ahead. Then waited a few minutes at the truck. Otis would have understood, he may have even agreed with the plan! But he was not given that choice.
He was limping and the pain was intense. I think he thought he wouldnt make it to the truck if he didnt sacrifice him.
shane did have to kill otis he woulda held shane back and they wouldnt have gotten back to the farm on time otis was a necessary sacrifice
This was a huge turning point for Rick and Shane when it came to their relationship in my opinion. It always blows my mind how many times Rick offers that olive leaf to him. It’s hard when your best friend and brother has become someone you don’t recognize anymore. In my opinion I also felt that Maggie was in the right to be angry. She had left Andrea in her sisters care. Knowing she was extremely fragile. Though Andrea basically did what She had condemned Dale for doing to her. The difference is, Dale never left her. Beth was mentally not right and though she was sorry for choice she made. In the end, it was the hypocrisy that made me angry at her.
Shane was fighting to kill Rick, Rick was fighting Shane as a MAN, saying, don’t speak about my wife & kid again, and don’t question my will and skill to protect them. Shane would have definitely left Rick.
Beth is 17 years old, so I’m with Lori & Maggie on the suicide thing. Although, I do understand Beth’s struggle. Her entire world just crumbled in the barn episode. She’s a teen, but she’s still a child.
But, I’m 1000% on Andrea’s side when she told off Lori about everything else. Lori is so damn entitled and judgmental. She gets on andrea about wanting to guard the camp instead of doing “womanly” tasks, but didn’t Lori just run off on a pointless trip to get Rick, and crash??
This was the episode where I really started disliking lori.
Rick was fighting full on and Shane was just trying to kill Randal, the only time where Shane was paying full attention on killing Rick was when he launched the wrench at Rick.
Than you dont actually know Lori? Like did her speech to Dale not tell you anything. This isnt about being "womanly" if Andrea was actually pulling her weight and actually doing stuff like the guys. Going out hunting, getting supplies than she wouldnt of said anything but all andrea did was sit up on a car and do nothing, which made the other women have to do double the work .
Lori is not entitled shes realistic, she knows she not strong enough to do what the others do so she sticks to what shes good at. The first time she tried to actually do something she crashed a car. She also not judgmental what so ever bc shes been judged plenty by andrea and others. Lori only goal is to make sure others dont hate Rick for the chooses he makes bc they choose him to lead and to make sure they get back to some type of normal.
Its strange how all Lori tries to do is survive and she condemned for it. The unjustified hate she gets is ridiculous. Shes hated bc she doesnt want to loose her husband after getting him back. She hated bc she wants to go back to how things were bc shes scared of the futuer, she hated for some dumb reason bc people blame her for Shanes sociopathic idiocy. They even blame her for when Shane tried to rape her. Some how it's always her fault, its ridiculous.
I agree with the 17 yo thing kind of... Having been suicidal though, it is better to let them decide they want to live. If you are just keeping them from doing it, one day they will sneak off and really do it perhaps. Better to let them taste what they are doing and go oh shit - I don't want to die. Especially in a situation like this.... I do think Andrea is a bit extreme on this, but I think Laurie is the other end of extreme. He said Laurie said to give her time to make her mind up. I agree time usually makes it go away, like a few hours. But I thought Laurie was on the side of absolutely taking the decision away period.

Both Lori and Rick (at this point) are trying to maintain a world that really doesn't exist anymore, Shane is right about that. They ALL need to be able to protect THEMSELVES and each other. If this were real, you would soon find out that the strict OLD roles don't really work! The only person in this group that could survive on their own out there is 'Daryl'. And I bet he does know how to wash his own clothes... not saying he'll ever do it, lol.

I am a huge TWD fan and have watched each season too many times to count…I never get tired of seeing these episodes. However, watching your reactions and how you’re both interrupting the characters and their decisions are fascinating to watch. Shane is a strong character and has majorly contributed to the group’s survival…but, you’re right about contemplating that he is doing it …not for the good of the group, but for his own gains. I think Lori and Andrea are showing the differences between women very well. Lori is a more conservative woman in my opinion, she takes pride in her femininity and motherhood. That's why she cares for the traditionally female work - laundry and cooking and all that.
Andrea on the other hand wants to be able to protect herself because she feels out of control. She's lost her sister, and since she had to learn how to shoot, she couldn't do so before - probably taking on the "women duties" herself. She's realized that you can't always count on the others of the group, the men, to protect her.
While Lori always took a step behind her husband, watching his back but not stepping to the front lines.
Andrea is playing with open cards. If she's pointing a gun at you, she is thinking of shooting you.
Lori is whispering into Rick's ear like she's done with Shane. She is always looking for someone else to protect her.
To be honest i never liked Shane from the beggining, don't know why 😀 maybe he seems selfish to me, he is dangerous, also a little bit creapy charakter to me, you never know what Shane is up to 😬 great video, thank you!🥰

They are not slow. They were posting one episode a week for the first season. Now they are posting two episodes with other shows that they're watching so I don't know what you think is slow about it.

Also I definitely think that Andrea was in the wrong, BUT I do see where she was coming from. I’ve struggled with being suicidal myself, and plus in THIS world not wanting to live makes even more sense. Letting her “decide” while her brain is basically mush from grief is a bad call though, because you just aren’t thinking clearly in that state.

Ive been waiting for this for weeks! This and episode 7 are phenomenal. Same with the Finale, but I wont spoil
We all went through the speculation, the theories, the opinions. Don't let anybody rag on you for doing the same thing. It's part of the process. There's so much to this show, so many interesting things it brings up for us to think about. That's one of the reasons the show is so great. My sister and I still talk about these early seasons, and there are still things that don't have a "definitive" answer.
This episode always gets me, Rick just wants his best friend back.

I caught that Battlestar Galactica reference and so hope they will do that series, but hope they started with the two part miniseries that set up the whole series, as there would be too many questions if they didnt.

Unfortunately BSG reactions gets hit by strikes frequently on YT, hence why there's so few, so that it would take too much of their limited time at the moment to edit and try get through blocks etc so atm is patreon only and Rob solo, despite them not wanting patreon only content it was only way to fit it in for now. We made sure to warn them of watch order and other things. Near end of S1 now, they come pretty regular due to not needing both Trin and Robs time free, tho Trin is watching Rob's reactions along with us.
I believe they said its possible they may manage to get it out in future depending on time, but compared to other shows its an uphill struggle keeping the vids up
@@lemmy303 Thanks for the info, it's sad to hear that the owners of BSG are so strict, it seems to me that it would be in their best interest to keep people thinking about the aging franchise so that can continue selling the old series and ensure an audience whenever they get around to trying to make more off the I.P.
Oh well, it's still in my top 10 to 20 best sci fi shows ever, the 2 part miniseries had my jaw hanging open when watching it when it came out, really was done great, and I never thought Starbuck as a girl was ever going to work out, but boy was I wrong at the time.
