Specification :
One of the key characteristics of rotary engines makes this possible - they’re compact and don’t take up much space. Although our newly-developed rotary engine generator uses an 830 cm³ engine with a maximum output of 55 kW (74 PS) at 4,700 rpm, it is more compact than a reciprocating engine with similar output.
This is what made coaxial placement and integration of the MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV rotary engine with a thin, high output generator and a 125 kW (170 PS) high output motor possible. It enabled us to achieve a compact set-up that fitted in the engine bay easily and didn’t require any compromise in cabin space.
We then combined this compact drive unit with a 17.8 kW lithium-ion battery and a 50 litre petrol tank. As a result, the MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV not only offers an 85 km electric-only driving range for everyday needs, but also, due to an ability to generate power using the rotary engine, longer drives without range anxiety, and the same 140 km/h maximum speed as the MX-30 BEV.

Thats how it should be but greedy owners of companies always will be pushing you to the limits (for example JLR 1min 20sec for one car to be made and it goes down, if you cant keep up you are out, to work there you have timed tests in asembly school (near manufacture) if you cant keep up your are unable to work there. Shame because if you didnt have it timed and people would have free hand, the quality would be 250% better .. i can say that from my own expirience i didnt care about shit i just needed to keep up with the moving floor to stay in my working lane
Well, I know it's a different engine type, but maybe this is the reason why I wait half a year for my new Renesis engine.. Properties swtiched.
I have a Mazda 6 from 2008. It is a 2.0 diesel engine. I drove over 500k km. I am happy that I can still use the car without breakdowns to this day. Huge respect for Mazda technology!!! And such an engine is a world champion!!!

5:40. Guess it's time for me to copy that rotor assembly installer. That makes it very easy to put these engines together.
No way Mazda built this rotary assembly line just to create rotary generators for a car they won't sell much of. There's got to be more to this story like a new Rx-7 coming in the somewhat near future.
They made patents for a 3 rotor Wankel with a hybrid system and a car that fits said engine. Rumors are the car is going to run the engine as a generator in "eco mode" and as a regular engine in sport mode.

Probably built on existing lines selling parts to older car owners. Many rebuilds are out there, for personal, racing, or restoration.

Conceptually, this car is a very good design.
It will take a couple of years to see if the delivery equal the promise.
The only real issue so far though, is the price - the MX-30 R-EV RRP is right up there.
These are 16X design rotors, each holding 0.8cc instead of 0.66cc of older designs. Not sure if additional volume comes from direct injection space.
But idea is to have larger rotor to increase burn time of fuel for greater energy efficiency and output
No matter how many times I see videos like this, I still think rotary engines are pure sorcery, lol!

Mazda brought out rotary engine back in 80s or mid I was one of the owner then it's good car one problem the inner seal wore out to fast .
And the exhaust system is hilarious
Try 70's. We used to race a 1974 Mazda RX4 wagon with a 13B. We used to build the engine on a milk crate. It's claim to fame was 3 moving parts. Smoothest running engine ever made too. We also learned really fast to NOT run it without the thermal reactor attached to the exhaust. It shot 3 foot flames out under the car.
But the flames were part of the fun, along with the loud "BRAAAAAPPPPP!" when getting on it! I had a friend with an Rx2 and we had a lot of fun porting the cases and building motors for it, that car was a blast.@@acdii

Один только вопрос: нахрена нужен такой "гибрид", который все равно жрет бензин, да и ещё в добавок это электрическая жужалка со своими отдельными болячками.
Если роторный двигатель - то и должен быть полноценным двигателем. А не кастрированная версия с одной болванкой (ротором), прикрученная к электромоторчику и т.д. в то же духе.

Generator car are unfortunately less efficient than just wheel drive. The kinetic energy to electric energy and convert back to kinetic energy the heat and friction energy loss. The train do that because it has 3 engine it can turn off 2 when moving, you only have 1 engine in the car. Train don't use transmission because cheaper to maintain. Do what Toyota had done a normal hybrid is good enough.

This is ridiculous, that battery pa k looked to be similar construction and tech as my 2011 Mitsubishi minicab miev EV Kei van. Which other company would bother with an ev with a 240mm thick battery pack, Mazda is doomed, the actual production worked at a snails pace too.
We buy Mazda not for EV, but skyactive technology. No one buy Range Rover for hatchback.
Always the same technology which is not reliable and has very poor efficiency...

The rotary engine was always trouble . Why do they continue to make this POS? The RX7s always had something wrong , non reliable engines.
They are pretty reliable for race car of course, for road car not so much. See how this new one perform.
