The auto decks recommends me Thor/ Asgard deck, which is actually really great imo. Put a bunch of 1 cost and then phastos will reduce their cost to 0, draw them all with Jane, turn 6 play could be those 0 cost cards + Odin or 0 cost cards + Hit monkey.
I think the general people have with new cards, is that people want to be game changing. Like Thena gave the Kitty deck like this whole new life, whereas here it just gives you more options. You don't need the card, but can be good if it lines up. If you have like Forge + Brood, that's fantastic, that doesn't mean Phastos is bad, you just hit the curve dream. He is very solid when played, and if you don't get him in time or have a better play, that's perfectly fine as well. You don't take out Magik or Okoye because you might not pull them fast enough. Thena is a card that you absolutely want t2 or t3, if you don't, you are in much worse shape. Here it feels like you got so many great cards, that you always got something solid to play.
I tried to run Phastos in a Nimrod Deck and it’s pretty fun. Sometimes you get a 8 power Nimrod or a 3 cost Shuri and you can put a Nova down before it. But you need to have Phastos on curve.
I'm having a blast with Phastos in my Thanos deck at least until they give him the minimum of 1 tag. His RNG feels good in that deck because either buff is good and Sera on 4 or 5 makes things even cheaper.
@Commentar1000 it's not done separately it's 1 or the other. My deck only runs him 1 time and every card gets the same effect. Seriously when I can have my deck be half 5's and 6's and still dominate most decks that's a major problem that needs to be addressed. Granted the only card that counters my deck is Mobius due to my deck being a cost reduction style.
@greatjensen 1 cost Uatu, 2 cost Jeff, 3 cost Phastos and Gladiator, 4 cost War Machine, 5 cost Professor X, Sera, Black Bolt, Mockingbird, and Stature 6 cost Thanos and Sasquatch. It's actually 7 cards of 5 or 6 cost It's all based on cost reduction plays though.
I feel like he is better when you look at it from an opportunity vs sunk cost aspect and play the game of keep the opponent guessing. Only you will know what is what until it gets revealed on board. Some plays will be better and make more sense, especially if you have the Brood-Absman line. But in a game where board space is already limited or there is a Sinister London location, you're gonna get almost guaranteed return on your investment and have room for better and more unpredictable plays.
Maybe I just tend to overthink stuff, but he really screws with me when I play against him. I tend to math out my turn 6s with a couple combinations of cards I think the opponent is likely to play, but that's so much harder when I don't know whether they have extra power or enough discounts to play another card. It feels like I play worse when I'm up against Phastos - I don't know how true that is, but it FEELS that way for 100% sure.
Seeing some of the woes here with Phastos is making me more sure I’m saving my spotlight caches to get Arishem next week (what can I say, I’m a sucker for random)

Ngl, the first deck I tryed with Phastos is in a black panther Zola/Taskmaster. Plus I can active 2 or more time Phastos ability using Zabu, Wong or Grandmaster
I was running a surfer deck and instead of playing groot on turn 5 I played phastos and then next turn shangchi costed 3 and my opponent played devil dino and gamora in the middle so I was able to play surfer and Shang chi to win the game
The deck I'm playing phastos in is fun and feels strong. Hes definitely a better fit than the card I switched out for him. That being said he's more bad than good in most decks.
He has no place in any decks He's supposed to make sure you get your combo cards but he also needs you to have the early power, it doesn't really fit into any combo deck because most of em don't have that much early power and you wont get much out of him in a deck with Early power like zoo

I am an average player so i cant say much but, i always enjoy surfer lists that play for the 6 turns. Its where i think the deck takes the most advantage. Been running Makari and Nakki and been enjoying it. Even if i go phastos turn 4 is fine, although i admit, that i am mostly after the buffs rather then reductions, cause i dont run Sera lol I also lack Sebastian which is a core card for surfer decks

This is a master deck! 👑 If you want the deck skip to the last but I would prefer that you listen to me ramble since it's two o clock and I'm a genius. I'd waited for Phastos the celestial month and I anticipated that it would be my favorite card when I sniped Thena in the first week. It released, people didn't see the point, being the genius that I so fkin am, I spent 4 keys for phastos! I couldn't try for Arishem because of that (I personally wasn't a fan of Arishem atp) I always believed that he would fit somewhere and start a revolution. Since I hate surfer and "phastos couldn't be played after 3rd turn", I began to imagine. He was sure to create a revolution, the perfect deck for him would destroy opps and am sure he will become more relevant with release of new cards. I'll give you the deck Lil bro, use it wisely. It has lots of series 4 and 5 but it is fun and reliable in shit like deadpool's diner since it doesn't rely on draw. In fact, whatever sequence you draw in, whatever deckstyle you're going against, it's equally efficient. Such is the power of phastos. Also it's incredibly fun. Though I must warn you, it won't work against destory or "Arishem". It might if you replace Valentina with some red guardian shit but then it won't be as adaptable and purpose would be defeated. I find really fascinating comparing Phastos with Ocoye, some say its a better version some say its a worse version Because you read it at first and its like "well +2 power or -1 cost are both better than just +1 power" but is the fact that it is a 3 cost instead of a 2 cost that big? So the card would be straight up better than Ocoye if it was also a 2 cost card with 2 power? Or is it because of the uncertain of what it will roll for each card?
Phastos fits quite well in Thanos and Arishem decks. Yes, if you don't play him on curve it hurts. The exact same as it would for all the other support cards. I don't know why people seem to expect the world out of Phastos...

How did the opponent in the 1st game have a makkari come down on the same turn as a turn 4 sera. Wouldn't the makkari insinuate they drew it that turn. But also the only way they played sera was to top deck it after phastos. Why did both happen that turn?
the closest explanation here would be the asgard drew them the makkari and makkari triggered her effect after the asgard draw. perhaps location effects happen first even for the end of turn stuff
Was very excited for Phastos, but hes not feeling as fun as I had hoped. If he affected hand instead I think he’d probably be better and feel less awful outside of turn 3.
I have been using Grandmaster in a more hand buff Surfer list , it's fun when it works 😜 . Chavez , Forge , Nakia and of course Phastos , along with Wong Odin and Lad , Brood ,Shaw, Majik .
Thanks for the video and the deck. I feel that the random nature of Phastos' effect is what hold him back the most. If he just did one or the other, it would make him much more consistent and easier to build around.

You know what bothers me about this game? Is they show ZERO gameplay or combos of how hes "supposed" to be used. Or am i missing that? 😅 like, other games (duel links) give you hints like this works well with ___ so and so....im curious as to what theyre testing is and why they justify these cards as series 5 when theyre clearly underwhelming 😮
I think your curve would feel better if you replaced Okoye with a 1 or 2 cost that can be played later. I dont think Okoye adds enough value if you dont have her on 2 and even if you do Forge is more often the play if you have both. Ive tried Quake and Grandmaster and both felt better than Okoye looked in this video. I also like Nico for her ability to buff Shaw/Brood or to draw additional cards Phastos has buffed. I can see cards like White Widow, Spider-Ham, even Psylocke making the curve feel better and helping the turns after Phastos feel more efficient.
Silver Surfer decks always feels clunky too me too. You float so much energy because you have so many damn 3 drops I just never enjoy playing this style of deck.
@@at0mlyshe doesn't really help that much aside from turn 5. You play her turn 3, play a 3 drop turn 4, two 3 drops turn 5, and two 3 drops turn 6. Overall you're still wasting energy when instead you could play a better 3 cost like shaw or brood on turn 3. Also she only helps if you have her by turn 3

Currently running him in my Gilga deck along side Chavez, Forge, Okoye and Nakia. I've noticed he does best if you can repeat him somehow, with Wong/Grandmaster/Absman.
@@KolbyNS Yes. Because his effect on it's own is not massively game changing, especially on Turn 3. The types of cards you play with him to truly take advantage of him usually mean you're using HUGE cards, so +2 power or -1 cost really aren't big deals. He needs a double up or to at least not be the only method of empowering cards to be truly effective. Otherwise he's rather unreliable. When you use Chavez, you know which card you're hitting. When you use Okoye, you know the whole deck is getting 1 effect. With Phastos you don't know which cards got which hit. That's why using it once can seem pointless while doubling it or more really makes a difference. For instance I put him on Sinister London, got 2 hits. Then put down Absman and got a third. Out popped a 1 cost/16 power Mockingbird from my deck (her cost was partially due to the cloned cards).

Though technically Arishem's cards added to deck would mean Phastos' ability affects more cards, it doesn't change the number of cards you draw meaning the actual number of cards affected by Phastos that you can play doesn't change.
Well, no, not so far. He's actually trending towards bad, not just mediocre like I expected. He has a 49.7% win rate, -.02 cube rate on average. And that's being bolstered by stuffing him in good decks. His best performing deck is a Surfer list with a .33 cube rate, but the same list WITHOUT him has a .63 cube rate. He's making it NOTABLY worse.
@@Rob0_ play him on 3 play wong on 4 serra on 5 and hazmat with cage or surfer and if you weaved in a magik add mystique for a turn 7 dump in the mix , deck is dead to cosmo and enchantress but otherwise just murders oponenrs generating stupid numbers or massive negative numbers for your oponent depending on if you draw cage or not
I tried him in Thanos and was equally unimpressed.. if i didn't need Corvus and Ham this week would've been a Phast skip for me. If Phastos doesn't get a buff or find a place soon I can see it sitting proudly and collecting dust in my collection with Black Swan and Herc.

It looks like he applies the effects on each card separately so I doubt he will get nerfed because of the RNG

I feel that the random nature of Phastos' effect is what hold him back the most. If he just did one or the other, it would make him much more consistent and easier to build around.

You know what bothers me about this game? Is they show ZERO gameplay or combos of how hes "supposed" to be used. Or am i missing that? 😅 like, other games (duel links) give you hints like this works well with ___ so and so....im curious as to what theyre testing is and why they justify these cards as series 5 when theyre clearly underwhelming 😮
I think your curve would feel better if you replaced Okoye with a 1 or 2 cost that can be played later. I dont think Okoye adds enough value if you dont have her on 2 and even if you do Forge is more often the play if you have both.
Ive tried Quake and Grandmaster and both felt better than Okoye looked in this video. I also like Nico for her ability to buff Shaw/Brood or to draw additional cards Phastos has buffed. I can see cards like White Widow, Spider-Ham, even Psylocke making the curve feel better and helping the turns after Phastos feel more efficient.

Silver Surfer decks always feels clunky too me too. You float so much energy because you have so many damn 3 drops I just never enjoy playing this style of deck.
But that’s why Phastos helps so much, pmay my things earlier
i always wonder why hope isn't more popular in surfer decks but i never play surfer decks so i haven't actually tried it
@@at0mlyshe doesn't really help that much aside from turn 5. You play her turn 3, play a 3 drop turn 4, two 3 drops turn 5, and two 3 drops turn 6. Overall you're still wasting energy when instead you could play a better 3 cost like shaw or brood on turn 3. Also she only helps if you have her by turn 3
i agree. next time i cook with surfer i might try to fit a couple extra 1 or 2 cost cards

Currently running him in my Gilga deck along side Chavez, Forge, Okoye and Nakia.
I've noticed he does best if you can repeat him somehow, with Wong/Grandmaster/Absman.

@@KolbyNS Yes. Because his effect on it's own is not massively game changing, especially on Turn 3. The types of cards you play with him to truly take advantage of him usually mean you're using HUGE cards, so +2 power or -1 cost really aren't big deals. He needs a double up or to at least not be the only method of empowering cards to be truly effective. Otherwise he's rather unreliable. When you use Chavez, you know which card you're hitting. When you use Okoye, you know the whole deck is getting 1 effect. With Phastos you don't know which cards got which hit. That's why using it once can seem pointless while doubling it or more really makes a difference. For instance I put him on Sinister London, got 2 hits. Then put down Absman and got a third. Out popped a 1 cost/16 power Mockingbird from my deck (her cost was partially due to the cloned cards).

It's like saying i've noticed that playing wong is good for on reveals, or that using abs man after surfer or brood gets you a stronger board. let alone the fact that doubling phastos' effect (provided you have the optimal draw) will give you this buffed effect only on 2 cards... i mean it seems pretty obvious to me but hey who am i to say what you are allowed to find surprising

I'm assume you don't have shaw then? Shaw is a staple in Silver Surfer's deck.. so it's a hard choice to replace anything.

Though technically Arishem's cards added to deck would mean Phastos' ability affects more cards, it doesn't change the number of cards you draw meaning the actual number of cards affected by Phastos that you can play doesn't change.

Well, no, not so far. He's actually trending towards bad, not just mediocre like I expected. He has a 49.7% win rate, -.02 cube rate on average. And that's being bolstered by stuffing him in good decks.
His best performing deck is a Surfer list with a .33 cube rate, but the same list WITHOUT him has a .63 cube rate. He's making it NOTABLY worse.

@@Rob0_ play him on 3 play wong on 4 serra on 5 and hazmat with cage or surfer and if you weaved in a magik add mystique for a turn 7 dump in the mix , deck is dead to cosmo and enchantress but otherwise just murders oponenrs generating stupid numbers or massive negative numbers for your oponent depending on if you draw cage or not

I tried him in Thanos and was equally unimpressed.. if i didn't need Corvus and Ham this week would've been a Phast skip for me.
If Phastos doesn't get a buff or find a place soon I can see it sitting proudly and collecting dust in my collection with Black Swan and Herc.
