i used to have this and it worked well! however, i went to an old fashioned dial lock mechanism because I'm a bit of a prepper and don't want an EMP or the batteries being dead to take it out to the point I can't get in my safe! not everything being digital is good
I have this safe, but with the dial combo instead of the battery/button combo. I don't want to sound like doom and gloom here, but how will you get into your battery safe if we are hit with a Solar Flare or an EMP? Both will fry all your batteries unless you have some batteries stored in a EMP proof bag. Also, store this safe where it can not be readily seen as it is not burglar proof; though is will probably keep out the amateurs for awhile!! I've hidden mine in my basement as fire burns upwards for the most part. I also took the extra step to vacuum pack (food saver) my money and important docs. Finally, for those who think a bank safety deposit box is a good idea... it's a terrible idea!
Great question. I think you would have to work with SentrySafe support to get it open. My guess is after a fire the safe would be toast and a professional would need to saw/grind the safe.
for those who want a security safe to keep thieves out this is not it, if you have a spot that you know to hide the safe and just want fire protection this safe is where you should at least start to look.
@@GearRules Hey there. I was looking online and it says the safe is 19.3 inches in depth. Does that include the handle in the front and if not could you please measure what it comes out to for me. I’m working with a depth of 20.5 where I want to put my safe and need to make sure it fits before I pull the trigger. Cheers!
@@GearRules like I commented this safe can also be easily open with a high power magnet as as can be seen in other TH-cam videos it catches the bolt and with tracks it in the door opens in less than five seconds
The moisture build up is a pain, but it shows it's doing its job at waterproofing! These really have helped. I have to recharge mine (which shows they are working!!!).
Great question! I use some of the rechargeable silica (link in the description) to take out all the moisture in the safe. If you recharge them regularly like I have, you shouldn't see any moisture damage. I've had a great experience !
@@GearRules funny that they stayed in their website all their safe made in Mexico and china but the one I found acutely made in USA ! Not sure if they’re any different in quality tho ?
Good point! Although I would be a little concerned if that made it any more flamable. Subscribe to follow along for more tutorials and reviews of neat products.
yeah, it's not a security safe, it's a fire safe. if you need security do not get this safe. if you are good at knowing where to hide things and are just concerned about a house fire this is for you.
This is the same type of safe that Mr. Locksmith opened in 1.63 seconds with a big magnet. Also, the hinge pin is on the outside! Home doors never have the hinge pins on the outside for obvious reasons. Basically this is a storage box that any crook can open in minutes if not seconds.
The outside hinge actually isn't a big vulnerability, the door has pegs on both sides (one side is the locking lug and the other side has fixed flanges built into the door) that make the door impossible to simply pull out while locked even if you cut the hinge off entirely. These sorts of safes aren't really meant to stand up to a determined attacker, though. They're meant for two main purposes: protecting stuff from a fire and stopping a random smash-and-grab thief from taking things. A random smash-and-grab thief isn't going to have a big magnet or whatever. Just leave a jar of loose change somewhere that such a thief would see it on entry and he'll just grab that and run. If you're a business that keeps thousands of dollars or other such valuables in a safe that a dedicated thief might take a crack at, yeah, this is not for that.
Hey thanks for the feedback. I love hearing from people more experience than me. This is definitely not fort knox, but I wouldn't expect it to be at the price point. I think having it well hidden and bolted down and to have balanced expectations is key with this safe. Thanks for the comments!!
The Mr. Locksmith video is from 6 years ago, I watched it also, and Sentry claims to have corrected that vulnerability. This is a safe that you can get for under $300 at your local big box retailer, it provides protection against fire and your typical opportunistic burglar. Even a safe with a UL burglary rating that you will pay much more for is only good for repelling a burglar (who is using tools) for 10 or 15 minutes, that is the test to attain that rating. So if you have serious valuables in any home safe you should also have a good alarm system hooked up to monitoring for a extra level of protection. For the typical person who just wants to secure their documents, photos, handguns.... This is a good, affordable choice.
Quang. I think it really depends. If you hide this one well and bolt it down appropriately I should do farely well, but if the thieves have a lot of time or know what they are doing, this might not be the best safe.
@@GearRules Even a safe with a UL Burglary rating only means that it was not able to be broken into in under 10 or 15 minutes by a burglar with common tools. So if someone has a Rolex collection or a lot of high end jewelry they want to secure you need to have a good home security system that can summon the police in addition to a burglary rated safe.
The lock will eventually become useless. you'll just have to punch in the code to open it. I had one for over 10yrs now. The paint will also irst and peel off by itself over time. it's an okay safe for fire protection I suppose. It's also quiet.
Thanks for the comment on the longevity. Good to know where it will wear down for all the folks watching! 10 years is pretty solid! Hopefully they've improved a bit as the years progress :)
DISCLAIMER: I don't recommend this safe for high security Applications due to the design flaw where it can be easily opens with a magnet above the dial/keypad. This flaw is also common in the tail model but harder to katchthe bolts through the door
Yeah they aren't the best. But there are few safes in this price point. They have been useable for me. I hope this helps. Feel free to subscribe to see some more awesome reviews.
Do you have an other safe to keep the user manual and the code?

Just curious, if the safe does encounter a fire situation and the keypad melts, how do you gain access to open it?
Great question. I think you would have to work with SentrySafe support to get it open. My guess is after a fire the safe would be toast and a professional would need to saw/grind the safe.
Sentry wants you do be a long term customer they will replace your safe so i'd imagine they will go ahead and get it open for you.
A high power magnet can be used if you slide it above the handle it catches the bolts and can retract them
@@nadia_and_rose You`re full of it. These safes have been updated. A magnet no longer works to get them open.
@@nadia_and_rose what theives carry high powered magnets with them?

I agree. The best safes for complete thief proofing that I've found are in an entirely different price range. But this one serves a solid purpose.

Can it fit standard size documents like 8.5 x 11
It absolutely can. Great place to store important documents
Please tell me thoes aren't circle keys. As in jam the end of a pen into the lock circle lock??
Not the best, but if you watch the video, those keys don't actually enable you to get into the safe
I would go with sentry safe with a combination dial because batteries/electronics can’t go bad with that.
I don't disagree with this at all. I debated internally about this for quite some time, but chose convenience. I completely agree with your statement!

@@nadia_and_rose Not according to the newer ones. According to Sentry, they said they changed the mechanical system.
@@hectorrivera6624 Yup, they`re updated, and quite awhile ago! A magnet will do no good to try to open them now.
I just got a sentry safe with a dial. And the main con I hate is the moisture build up. Just get desiccants

Will the moisture buildup get the documents wet? Or mildew them?
@@Baggz81 yes if you don’t have desiccant packs in the safe often
Is there risk that should the electronics malfunction and what you kept inside cannot be retrieved? Assume it isn’t easy to force the safe open.
Adrian, I would assume there is some risk, but they do have a customer support and would assume they have a solution for this.
@@GearRules yup, I asked another safe manufacturer who said they are able to change the electronics at a price.
A mechanical one is better imo. Incase something screws the electronics then you can't get in.
No worries. You can open this safe with a magnet, it turns out!

Glad I could help david!!!
What’s the weight of the safe?
Hey! According to Amazon it weighs about 87 pounds!!
Is this the 2 cubic ft size ? Are they made in USA ? Because the one I see on Amazon are china made
This is the 1.23 Cubic feet size and the fact I can't tell probably means it's made abroad :(

Uhhh, no. SentrySafe is a brand of safes manufactured in Rochester, New York. It is owned by the Master Lock Company.
It's a anti theft handle its suppose to feel lose Like that. Over pulled would sheer the plastic

This is the medium sized safe. SFW123GDC or the 1.23 cubic feet one.
CAN YOU PUT CASH MNEY PAPER MONEY ON IT ?
This safe can get filled with cash money. Don't you worry.
Will the moisture get it wet?
4:59 how safe is this safe when you can drill through it? 😂
Imagine your battery’s die the night someone breaks in. 😂😂😂
haha yes, it's less than Ideal. I wouldn't use this safe as a quick access one for intruders...

Yeah that type of functionality of the key was a deal breaker. I want a key that can open the safe
Yeah definitely can understand that stance!
I agree, but I can also get that if there was a key it would be easier for a criminal to pick or get in
HAHAHAHA! Who else came here after watching this exact safe getting owned by a magnet?
I thought the key would be able to open it if it died. The woman at the store mislead me. I’m displeased
