We have the internet to thank for this becase arin thought this was buggy af but found only one bug and it didn't even break the game. The sonic fans all cheered that day.
If anybody’s wondering about the version Arin and Danny have: they did get the glitched version and played it before the patch, but the really big “game breaking” bug happens in really specific circumstances. You have to start a level, exit before playing, then go to a different area, and start playing the level. And a big seizure warning if you decide to look it up- there’s a lot of bright, flashing colors, and it can really just give you a headache by looking at it.

When I saw Arin trending on twitter I felt an immediate sense of dread. Then, I found out it was just that he pissed off a bunch of Sonic "fans" by tweeting "I want to play the glitchy Sonic," and now it's the highlight of my year.
What did you think it was? Something like when he went off on Sr. Pelo over a silly animated cartoon?

I usually don't mind Arin shitting on Sonic games but this was the first time that I actually was like "Are you serious? Just cuz you're not paying attention you think it's bad?" Lmao

And at points complaints about how sonic heros has bad directions but the game straight out gives you hints on what to do and yet the man cannot hear our cries (sorry I went shakespearean at the end)
That's like the one trait arin has that bothers me. He complains about how games spoon-feed you information and then constantly complains about stuff not being clear because he simply doesn't pay attention. It's a commentary show and everyone in the genre knows you drop like 30 IQ when you're recording and he does embrace the "arin doesn't read the tutorial" meme so I cut him some slack but yeah sometimes it's a bit much

Should we feel bad for Arin, that he fell for the "Sonic Colors Ultimate is a glitchy trainwreck" hoax, dove in immediately in the hopes of tearing it to shreds, and just ended up playing a regular Sonic game that worked exactly the way it was supposed to? Poor guy, how's he supposed to maintain his confirmation bias now? 😆
I mean, considering it’s one of, if not the most well received sonic game, Arin finding it thoroughly mediocre might say a lot about the franchise as a whole. And since it isn’t common for Sonic games to work like they’re supposed to, it’s hard to blame him for thinking it would be glitchy.
"Confirmation bias" Literally every single Sonic game is a glitchy mess. This one even had some glitches. Im pretty sure you dont even know what the "confirmation bias" means.
@@eddiegomez2911 a game having "some glitches in it" isn't a "glitchy mess". To be honest, I literally have no idea what people mean when they say that Sonic games are (unnaturally) glitchy. There are some outliers like 06, and Sonic Boom, but the vast majority of Sonic games are pretty average compared to those two.
@@Trecherousbeast Off the top of my head there’s also Adventure DX and Sonic Heroes. Not to mention there are other things that can make Sonic games bad. Sonic and the Black Knight and Unleashed weren’t exactly well liked by Arin, and I don’t remember them being *too* buggy. Sonic Forces was also pretty mediocre with a terrible plot.
Even if it isn’t ridiculously buggy, they almost ALWAYS lack polish.
@@Phasmania I still wouldn’t call these games buggy messes. Sonic and the Black Knight is a pretty average game, but I wouldn’t call it bad. Arin literally played what is well known to be the worst port of Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic Forces is still a pretty ok game. Unironically, most of the issues that I see when Arin plays is that he’s just not taking the game seriously and fails because of it. It’s fine because it’s funny, but I don’t understand how people can just watch a funny playthrough of a game, and then make a statement on an entire franchise.

you have so many ways to attack, levels have so much variety to keep it from being the same things. Like how they are is structured to give you challenging platforming combined with beat em up segments, some puzzles here and there, they keep things fresh, and always sprinkle in things unique to that stage to stop every level being the same
Its so overhated, if the werehog wasn't a sonic game and they took those exact levels and gameplay mechanics and released it seperately, it'd get critical acclaim

fun fact: I used to replay sonic colours on wii solely to replay the final boss, both to try and beat my high score and to listen to the orchestra version of reach for the stars. Even on my first playthrough of the game I don't think I had as much trouble with this final boss as Arin had, since it seems pretty simple if you *listen and learn the game controls*
Watching Arin play Sonic games is a lesson in frustration that I don't know why I put myself through, but your compilations are always fun.
Fun Fact #2: after you Homing attack into Eggman you can boost into him for additional hits, another thing Arin completely failed to do in both this and Sonic Unleashed.
Lesmo, you should have put the muted, unabridged credits in the corner of the screen for comparison. I'm pretty sure the credits are longer than this video.
You know how in sitcoms a family will get a free vacation and end up in a timeshare pitch? I feel like Sega pitched Arin a glitchy Sonic game so he'd play through the 30 minutes credit sequence

I was very worried when Arin said this game became glitchier than Sonic Boom since the Wii version, but I’m actually very glad that was not the case, because this game holds a very special place in my heart, and I’m happy the Grumps gave it a fair chance.

First thing I had to do before watching this is to make sure the actual game they played didn't have a "U" in "Colors" and that I'm not going insane
So the plan is to make Arin believe the worst port is actually a port that is totally fine and trick him into playing the normal version of the game

Man, you'd love arin's god awful playthrough of Zelda OoT and Majora's mask. They're fucking infuriating.

I knew by the 1st episode that this wasn't going to be as Arin wanted....and I was right. There were a few, but they were nothing or weren't noticed at all. My least favorite part of this playthrough is definitely the final boss(although them completely MISSING Terminal Velocity is also close) Arin getting frustrated, saying it sucks and unfair is completely BULL and entirely HIS fault!(all of those attacks have pretty big tells not mention the person yelling what's going to happen.) He also forgot to boost and DOUBLE JUMP!(it's literally the key to dodging the advance laser move) despite this, I enjoyed this playthrough. It was nice and short, and because Arin was forced to play a Sonic game for what it was for once, one of the better Sonic games in the last decade.
What was all that stuff about the game being glitchy and broken. I guess a bunch of sonic haters were just lying and trying to give the game bad press? Idk
Nah the game was very very glitchy but you just had to kind of go out of your way for it and then you'd absolutely annihilate the game

@@thelastwindwaker7948 he’s a comedian of course makes jokes about games and things he doesn’t like, but the problems he has with a lot of sonic games come from the fact that their gameplay loop is the same/poorly put together and they have no love or care put into them?
@@bish595 He's not even making jokes. He just bitches and moans about how these games are terrible, which is annoying but harmless. It's when he turns it around on the audience, and tries to convince people that these games are terrible and you're nostalgia blind for liking them, that it gets to be a problem.
Just look at what happened with Ep. 32 of their Sonic Adventure series. They had to pull the episode because Arin was bashing the writer of the guide they were making, and it lead to his fans harassing that person.
It's a bandwagon. Arin knows the series is a punching bag and his fans eat it up, so I'm not surprised people are fed up with that, especially when it causes legitimate harassment, like mentioned above.
Not gonna lie, this playthrough lacked a lot of energy that made the last Sonic Grumps sessions soar the way they did. Maybe it’s because the game itself was just sort of mediocre and not that visually appealing/ridiculous, but Arin seemed to really rely on the gaming being buggy to get any good humour out of it. Since it wasn’t there, the whole playthrough just seems forgettable in retrospect.
Honestly, I don’t even think the glitchiness would have saved it.
But great complication as always :)

This is in fact a realy good game but if someone isn't trying to enjoy the game, its going to seem more boring and mediocre than it actually is. Couple that with the fact that Arin scarcely used 2 important game mechanics, boosting and wisps, is anyone surprised the playthrough wasn't good? The forces playthrough was mostly the same but that game has problems of its own that can be laughed at so it wasnt noticeable
