As a New Yorker who've actually lived in Newark I can honestly say that this city held me DOWN. When I was going through my STORM that city made sure I was 💯 good. I'm happy to see how far the city has come and the many changes it undergoing and I wish them well. I love New Jersey and I love NEWARK AND THE ORANGES....
I lived in Newark aka Brick City, from 2001 until 2019.✊🏾 If you would have told me I , a girl from the suburbs of Freehold , NJ would’ve stayed there for 18 years, I would have called you delusional. However, I virtually had no issues, except one “polite” mugging. By the time I moved out of the city, real change was happening under the leadership of Mayor Baraka. I have nothing, but praise for him. I plan to visit in the spring of this year. May God continue to bless you, Mr. Baraka.
Shalom, WAKE THAT MIND UP! Thanks for sharing this conversation with Mayor Ras Baraka. I appreciate his passion as a politician to help people, his track record is spot on. Mayor Ras Baraka, thank you.
I lived in Newark for 2 yrs and he is a great Mayor and really creating change on the ground. Also as for Congestion Pricing, alot of people on the ground were bought ij back in 2019 and years and years after that. Better Transportation is needed for NY and NJ. But he is right about speaking to everyone and everyday now. #NEWARKPEOPLESASSEMBLY
When I was a young girl growing up in NJ I use to walk the streets at night looking for my mom… long story but I would always think to myself that I would feel way more safe if the street lights worked or if there were more street lights… I feel that way NOW! Like taxes take up so much of our pay and damn near every street light is out or there aren’t any for miles and miles in dark communities. I can see how that helped Newark.
I am Born and raised in Newark, NJ. I fully support Mayor Ras Baraka, my Family fully supports Ras Baraka. We are proud of him and are happy to see what he's been doing in Newark for the past 20 years. This includes when he was a Principal at Weequahic High School and Central High School, to being a Councilman, Mayor, now running for Governor. Newark is constantly progressing.
He a great guy to Vote for they said it right I seen hem outside in PATERSON in the hood coming out talking to people in the cold at NIGHT u won’t see anyone do that 💯
There needs to be more focus on South Jersey, with a lot more investments at the shore. North and South Jersey are totally different, and we need a governor that treats South Jersey as equals!
I came to america in 2010 and I became us citizen. Sinse the welcome I felt by people and the city of Newark and then Mayor Barak I will never vote against the mayor. He knows how to win your trust and transform a city. Much love and thanks for the amazing human being you are.
The Breakfast Club should stay out of local politics - especially Newark. Cesar Pina was paraded around the same way and we see how that ended. Yet, here they go again promoting another local politician who they know nothing about. Their relationship w/Baraka is transactional and they should be ashamed of themselves for constantly misleading people on political issues. This interview is classic quid pro quo - Ras gets publicity and the hosts are given favor on investment deals in Newark.
Newark is safer during business hours downtown. The ward I live in is filthy. Shootings everyday. Garbage not picked up. Rats everywhere. Can't even go to the library without drug sales and filth. Been here my whole life and nothing is changing for the children.
What about the article that showed that the city hired a company for lead lines and they found that some were not done but they claimed it was. And they got paid. No one oversees projects in this city.
Why is the Breakfast Club still viewed as the voice of Black America? The hosts aren’t educated on issues, and quite frankly, they’re happy being rich, basking in positions they haven’t culturally earned. Instead, it was given to them. Stop listening to entertainers or celebrities, period, on politics. Everyone has a lane, and the Breakfast needs to be escorted out of this one respectfully.
Hes helped my family and myself. Own the Block. The vultures always circling trying to tell us our property values are less than next door. So they can swoop in and drive it up when we're gone. Ancestors bled for us to keep the legacy alive!! 🧱 🧱 🧱 City ❤️🔥🖤💚⚡️
While there’s a 20% affordable set aside for new developments, these developers have found a loophole by paying the fines instead following the ordinances on the book
Im glad you mentioned this because I thought I was the only one. I should also say that the 20 percent strategy was also a farce btw. Sure, SOME people get to live in these properties, but the vast majority of legacy residents in the surrounding areas will be effectively priced out of the area once the cost of living and property taxes increases dramatically. As they did for Newark. As they did for Jersey City. So on and so forth
@@83kiarra nah, more like 100 percent affordable. People of all economic strata should be able to afford to live in areas that predominately middle class. Developers shouldn't just cater to the rich and wealthy
All of Newark's problems stem from 1 issue. Absentee landlords, 77% of Newark residents rent. Owners who live in the community don't stand for poor schools, poor sanitation, crime, etc... no one owns, so there is very little community investment.
...what a weird racist strawman. The man talked about housing and poverty and the 1st thing you go to is his race? That says more about you than it does him lol
No, it's just something that I felt in my heart. He's dark skin he looks like us to. That means we should trust him and that he'll never betray us. What's wrong with that?@@garnettprice5333
@MindfulAttraction2.0 yeah and like I said, that's a strawman too, since they've brought on Black people they've ridiculed as well that people shouldn't trust. Ask the Mayor when is the last time he took a bus or train? In Newark or NY, we Congestion pricing, and thousands of people take train from Newark to NY everyday
How far did DEI trickle down? Because I have not benefited, if anything it's harder to get hired. Race/Ethinicty needs to be removed from job applications.

This episode was extremely insightful. It’s great to hear what is within a mayor’s scope too.

I like the use of abandon containers and buildings being used to house the homeless. Especially with the social service support.

It looks like NJ will have a great governor if the people vote for him given the work he has done as a mayor 🔥🥇
The star ain’t voting from him it’s different than Newark he really controls the city
I feel sorry for the citizens of New Jersey
why
Thank you taxes is so high !
Listening to this man speak about the things he’s done for Newark makes me realize how garbage governing in Houston actually is.
Don’t believe the hype…he’s done more damage than good.

Flock to Florida Atlanta don’t want no more New Yorkers or Jersey people screaming and being loud in public. 😂
New Jersey losing a sports team hurt me so bad cause we need our own to unite us even more . Why should we have to support Philly or New York teams
What is he going to do about DPW workers not being paid a living wage? And not being paid on time?
