My bro and I both started Super Major like this in the summer in Finland, without battery. But, one of us was on the decompression lever as the other pulled.
I had a tractor like that back in the '80s; I used the same method to start it if the battery was flat, but I used a longer rope & pulled it with the car.
My grandad used to do this many many years ago but being on his own he had to pull a string round the starter lever at the same time😮. If it was cold there would also be a diesel soaked rag burning down the air intake aswell🤣🤣 To be fair the battery needs a bit more life in it than this one had
Maybe they have coolant in the water, then you don't want to just change it. But yes that method works great. That's how they started forestry machines back in the Soviet times in the Siberian winter, Maybe they still do.
Well I have never seen a major with a decompressor lever on the head unless it was an option for export models like the windup starters with a big spring inside them ( what a fantastic idea and worked well)
@@johnwarwick4105 i remember my grandad told me about a decompression leaver on the engine of some ford tractor and him and his dad would spin the pulley and then flip the leaver and the tractor would always start
For 1 thing, this rope pull technique is how you can seriously hurt and wreck your shoulders and arms, and also there should be under the hood a decompression lever that’ll make starting it A LOT easier.
For this tractor model it should have the lever, it’s located in front on top of the engine 1, 1 person is supposed to push the lever while 1 hit the starter lever and by pressing the lever it make the engine spin a lot faster, once the engine has spun long enough disengage the lever and it should help it start or hopefully start
Take that boll##ks down from cranking the tractor with s bad battery. He will burn out the starter. Those tractors usually had a cold start button on the injector pump. Yes.... Have heard of a rope around the pulley to assist starting Better get a new battery , and avoid this guntering
Loved the grin on the boys face when it 😍 started
When battery almost dead.. why kill the starter and whats left of amps by try starting?
I also don't understand why?
I was really leaning hard when he pulled on the rope, I'm sure that helped a lot

Sar decompression lever is not available in this engine
@@fordsonclassictractor7833 I have a decompression lever on mine, there often found on commercial and cold climate engines.
@@amazoniaamazonia7225 Right
I should also add Ford didn’t recommend using it to start an engine, but only to break the surface tension of the oil, in cold climates.
I wouldnt have believed that would work until I saw it, and I am familiar with the Fordson Major

Another way without the muscle would be to drain radiator and refill with warm water.
That is an option but the battery was flat so that would only do so much
A warm radiator? So what is that going to do?
@@snakerstran9101 A warm engine will turn over more easily with a partialy flat battery.

Charge up the battery would be safer
If you have the time for it and a charger.
I'm sure these people know this isn't the right way, but likely they don't really have any choice.

Probably one of those "refurbished" batteries they do on the streets in India😅
Meh, just a flat one. Refurbished or not, if it's dead, it's dead.
We had a tractor that wouldn't start. Just bought a new battery.
Push in the button on the fuel pump 😊

Until the engine fires, pulls the rope in, the free end of which is wrapped around a limb. Messy.
The earlier attempt the guy wrapped the rope around his wrist, a kill position. But he did give up on that plan pretty quickly.
