It was the same for me. I bought xenoblade 2 randomly knowing nothing about it. I had light fun running around as Rex for a couple hours until I got to the end of chapter 1 and then it blew my mind. What I thought was a disney-like adventure became an epic
At first I got Xenoblade 2 along with Botw when I first got my switch 3 years ago. I played Xenoblade after finishing Botw, played up until the foot of the World Tree where I dropped it, eventually got Xenoblade 1 and stopped midway through the Mechonis. I never touched those games again, until may 2022, where I thought to myself. Damn I have these 2 games that ppl really REALLY like, I'll try giving them another shot. So I loaded new save files and Jesus Christ I finally saw what made these games so good in the first place. I loved every single second I was playing them. Now Xenoblade 2 sits as my 2nd favorite game of all time alongside Elden Ring. While Xenoblade 3 proudly stands as my personal Greatest Game of all time.
as someone who bought xc2 by complete chance, it take quite a while to get the combat going if you are a newcomer... and sometimes this is true with the story as well, but when you finally get it going... oh boy, "having a blast" is a huge understatement, it goes inches away from a densly packed frenetic action game also, the music of this series deserves way more appreciation, the game wouldn't be the same without it
2 was my first game as well. I'm a series fanatic now. Also, sometimes I just get lost in the music while playing the game. No other series has done that for me.
I remember black friday in 2018, I was deciding between $30 wireless earbuds or a game I've heard little aboit which was Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I went from only choosing the game because I had nothing else to play on my switch, to it being one of my personal favorite games ever! I hold the Xenoblade trilogy close to my heart now as I've never experienced anything like it before! I wonder what my gaming life would have been like if I chose the earphones...
There's nothing quite like opening and playing a Xenoblade game. Title screens are always fire, the music always enhances. And with each title, they improve qol constantly. Characters in this game interact in ways we've been wanting sicne the first game. Some characters don't really interact, but there's been so many interacting in 3 specifically, that monolith clearly cares about its audience. I've neevr once felt like the game was trying to treat me like a baby, always treating me with respect. I like having some areas where I walk, althought I agree with a little too many instances, but having a quiet time to walk through an area and just take in the environment and music is something I like doing from time to time. I won't lie, when you started talking about cutscenes and music, I straight up got chills
Its always nice to see newer perspectives on the series. Xenoblade has been the pinnacle of the genre for me since its first release on Wii and nothing truly comes close. Outside of its themes of shaping the future with your own hands, I love its themes on youth, optimism, and life itself. No one knows what the future holds, but its those surprises that make life worth living. Its a very simple, but forward thinking message from a game that truly wants to innovate within its own genre.
I remember watching The Completetionist do a playthrough for the 3DS version on twitch. For the next half hour before opening the game he kept complaining how much he doesn't like open world games and if it wasn't for the sponsorship he wouldn't be playing it. Then after playing through the prologue he realized his greatest fear was never real and got really into it.
I remember playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for the first time in 2017, I'm very glad I gave the franchise a chance with that game. Now, is my favorite franchise of videogames.
I'd say it looks cool, but has a similar problem to 3's Chapter 5. It's just a big chunk of space where nothing really big happens with nothing to really break it up. Sure it isn't as big of an issue as it is in chapter 5, but that's a pretty low bar to reach, which hurts since my favorite scene in 3 lies at the end of chapter 5.

I remember picking up for my first time ever a Xeno game, it was a few years after the release of Torna, I had played many awesome switch games at that time but I was getting bored of it being to repetitive, so I just bought Xenoblade 2 for the sake of getting something to play (also the cover looked cool), as I said I’d never heard nor seen anything about Xeno. So, at first when I started playing through the tutorial I got kind bored because it was throwing so much info at me, however, as I was discovering, talking and testing the buttons in Argentum I started to give it a bit of a chance and for the fact that I bought the game already so I had no choice, once I realized the intentions of Mhalos and Jin it got me pretty good throughout the entire game not to mention that the landscapes were beautiful, just to think that I was standing on a giant titan and I was able to explore most of not all parts of it (Uraya was my favorite). Once I finished the main story I always kept thinking on what happened 500 years ago that Jin and company kept talking about, so I bought Torna as well, and boy what a fun adventure as well, it got me a bit to understand the new form of combat and to remember all arts and passives Lol After I finished playing both Torna and the main I decided to check if the story of XC1 and 2 are related somehow, I was still thinking on what happened to Ontos at the time, so I decided to watch a full video of 13 or more hrs with all the XC1 cutscenes ( at that time Definitive edition wasn’t even announced so I thought there wouldn’t be a chance to play it) I was amazed by all the story, it was a masterpiece, plus the fact both worlds are related in a certain way, a few moths after XC1 DE gets announced and I was so exciting and disappointed about it as well, mostly because I already have seen the story, but still it was a great experience to play and get to see those beautiful landscapes in even better graphics than the old XC1 Wii version, I found it very hilarious that Shulk and the others even though I already passed through a few zones on Bionis I was still too far away from my destination due to Bionis and Mechonis being gigantic 😂😂. It's understated how gigantic the scale of Xeno's worlds are. I think paradoxically Xenoblade shows too much of the world scale, because somehow one single element in their previous series, Xenosaga, did in spade. So you and your crew (with the best girl Kos-Mos) went onto this ship Durandal. And you don't really know how big the ship until you get out of your other ship. Turns out you need shuttles to move into different parts of the Durandal, there's a whole biome area, and it then docks into the Kukai Foundation to acts like a giant sky scapper. The thing is 4km long. It's almost overwhelming to think about how Mechonis and Bionis and the titans in 2 when they're scaled to match, they are like our own versions of continents, and no open world games to this date achieve that sense of scale.
I once thought RPGs weren't my thing but Fire Emblem Three Houses had proved me otherwise. A year afterwards i decided i'd try Xenoblade to broaden my taste in RPGs and to my surprise it blew Fire Emblem out of the water and quickly became one of my favorites ever, i then finished it and not a week after purchasing two three was announced and my hype levels overloaded, the following months i played nothing but Xenoblade, essentially playing the whole trilogy back to back by sheer coincidence, with 3 capping it off as a great ending and probably my new favorite game ever, i love this franchise, so much! I wouldn't trade it for the world, i might have been late to it, but i'm glad i played it nonetheless.
I get the impression that 3 in particular succeeded the way it did because it took the massive Gnostic self-determination epic of 1, combined it with the collectible character roster of 2 and used it as a pretext to roast the stale, excessively monetized team eSports genre while continuing to call back to Xeno titles that preceded the current series.
I remember playing a bit of the first game when it first came out... I was intrigued, but for the life of me, it didn't really do much for me at the time. I eventually bought it when it finally came out in the West, but never bothering to play it for a whole host of random reasons. I later bought X, nearly finished it... then dropped it. 2 was the first time I actually got hooked into the journey, and finally saw the appeal of this series. 3 grabbed me, and never let go. I'm now in the process of going back and revisiting the world of Bionis to see if I can learn more about that world. I'm already very familiar with Alrest, but now, I need a new place to learn about to connect the rest of the stuff im not familiar with in 3.
