    Another SUPERB video on the Zibo mod 737-800, my fav bird. My Boeing connection goes back to the 1960s and 70s, being one of many engineers who contributed to the 747 project. At the time I was a prop jockey on weekends (multi-engine biz charter birds) but I hadn't flown for decades until X-Plane 11 came along and my daughter gave me an awesome flight sim setup. This is great fun and a heckuva lot cheaper than a metal bird, but still satisfying because the sim experience has become ultra-realistic! THANKS for your skillful dedication to this flight instruction project.

      Thank you so much for your kind words Geoff. Truly do appreciate it. You can actually watch the entire 16-episode series on the Boeing 737-800 here: th-cam.com/play/PLstDeuw1VKqXXfI2sNq-b9rNcXNOFijx-.html Additionally, if you're also planning to learn how to fly the Airbus A320, I have started an Aircraft Dissected covering that aircraft too, which you can watch here: th-cam.com/play/PLstDeuw1VKqXBcS7PRqzkaHNdchstKcgr.html Currently, only 2 episodes have been uploaded in the latter playlist, but more will be coming very soon, so stay tuned! :)

    Another great addition to a growing library which in due coarse will be regarded as THE definitive resource for the zibo. This series has not only raised my confidence to fly this study-craft but by the end of each episode I am hungry for more... like a great meal... you never want it to end... LOL... Now, I thought it would be a long time before I would be in a position to offer something back as your knowledge of this aircraft is extensive and I am still learning... however, clearly you pay exceptional attention to detail so I think I will be on safe ground mentioning something without fear of offending you... this is in relation to 'Plan Fuel' and 'Reserves'... according to another online tutorial (presented by real life pilot), Plan Fuel is TRIP + TAXI and Reserves is ALTN + FINRES...

    • @FlyBySimulations
      @FlyBySimulations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once again, thank you for your really thoughtful comment Slicker! As for you providing knowledge back to me in comments section, please never shy away from that. I have always believed that it is my job as a content creator to accept criticism, and being corrected is the most basic form of criticism there is. Yes, the part about the fueling distribution was indeed also pointed out by some other people in the Facebook comments as well as other videos in the series. I guess my research was faltered in that regard. Thank you once again for your kind words as well as for correcting me - I'm sure it will be very helpful for other viewers scrolling through the comments section:)

    • @Sim737Pilot
      @Sim737Pilot 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, ALTN+FINRES added together to get the reserves value. In order to explain why for the benefit of others reading the comments, The FMC will give you a warning message in the scratchpad- "using reserves". If you were to only enter the FINRES value and the warning was to display, that would indicate you have already burned through your alternate fuel and cannot safely make it to the alternate airport in the flightplan.

    Just a little precision, at 18:40 , the ZFW weight given should be the same as the EST (estimated) one given in the Simbrief calculated flight plan (or maybe a slight decimal change but no more) if you entered the exact payload and fuel.
    If this is not the case, you have a difference between weights of the aircraft and the one used in Simbrief. You can correct this by going in the aircraft preference in Simbrief and check that it matches OEM (operationnal empty weight) with the one in Zibo (in the other pages of the payload screen).
    The MAX GW value is used (if I recall correctly) when pilot do some changes of the flight plan value. But if the flight plan value for fuel and payload are used, you should have the EST value correctly.

    • @FlyBySimulations
      @FlyBySimulations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there once again, thank you so much for that information. The same thing was actually also pointed out to me on one of the Facebook forums. It's truly amazing how much customization SimBrief offers for being a free platform. Unfortunately, there's only so much I can do and research before uploading a video, but your comment can help others watching this video to better calculate weight and balance for their Zibo 737-800. Thank you for your support once again:)

    One small note (correct me if I'm wrong): ISA deviation in OFP is noted in degrees Celsius not Fahrenheit, so P10 would mean 10 C. When you enter it PREF INIT it fills in as 10 F, so we need to convert it to F and enter that, or mb enter 10C if that is accepted in CDU, not sure.

  • @Sim737Pilot
    @Sim737Pilot 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Just one small addition this time ;-) After entering all the route data into the FMC, switch to Plan Mode on the EFIS panel, click the LEGS page, and use the line select key to "STEP" through each waypoint to verify they are present, in correct order, alt /spd restrictions match the charts, and especially for empty white boxes or "discontinuities" and "vectors" listed. You want to overwrite these with the waypoint above or below then execute again to get a continuous magenta line from takeoff to landing. You are now ready to click the Captain's "Welcome Message" on the PA announcements. The real aircraft will not allow you to just line select and have the CG appear so you can find it on the fuel page in the Zibo EFB.

    Thanks for another great video! Lots of nooks and crannies in that FMC -- wonder when they will all be found!
    I did notice that you said the Zibo doesn't allow you to enter the runway slope, but I regularly do so. Maybe it is an issue with the format you are trying to use. Here is what works for me: Find the runway slope for your particular runway. Uphill slopes will be positive, downhill slopes will be negative. So for example, if the runway slope is shown as -0.430, you would enter it on the CDU screen as D0.4. A slope of 0.265 would be entered as U0.3. This slope entry is followed by the runway heading as you indicated in the video. I'm not sure what the effect of entering the runway slope actually has on the Zibo, but it will let you enter it.
    Again, great job!

      Hey there! Thank you so much for watching the video and for your continued support on the channel. You may have grown tired of hearing it, but I truly do appreciate it:) As for the runway slope, I believe I was on a corrupted version of Zibo while filming this video. I have also entered runway slopes in previous versions of the Zibo, however, when I was recording, it just wasn't letting me input the value. Upon reading your comment however, I did update the Zibo to the latest version and have now tried to enter the slope and it works perfectly. Thank you so much for watching the video in its entirety - it does mean the world to me:)

    Another great video Varun! I like the checklist-style run through. Now that I've had a refresher in how to program the Boeing FMC, I'm running out of excuses not to fly the thing!
    Just one thing worth mentioning. The EST ZFW on the flight plan is the weight used in the planning / setup stages for various calculations such as fuel uplift, takeoff performance calculations etc (until we receive a final loadsheet). As you did correctly, normally this is the weight we would use to initially set up the aircraft. The MAX weights you refer to on the flight plan are not the upper limits of the estimates, but in fact MAX structural limits of the aircraft (so that we can calculate how much extra weight and / or fuel we can upload if required). I can't speak for the 737, but for a heavier jet, a change of just 200kg might see us recalculating our takeoff performance data and roughly +/- 1000kg would have us looking at adjusting our fuel load for the flight. So as you can see, the tolerances for weight changes (which happen more often than not between the planning stage and departure) are not huge.
    In short, you will be given an EST ZFW to allow you plan / calculate based on the best possible data at the time. Once all the boarding / cargo uplift has been finalized you will be given an actual ZFW. If there is any significant change between the planned and the actual weights (which ordinarily there will be) things will need to be recalculated / re-programmed based on the new weight.
    Hope that helps.

      @FlyBySimulations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for your detailed criticism of the Estimated Zero Fuel Weight mentioned in the video. It's actually very interesting how even small imbalances in fuel, weight and balance calculations often require a complete recalculation of the values to ensure safety. Goes to show how safe aviation really is. Anyways, thanks for putting the comment out there for the other viewers as well. As usual, your continued support on the channel is greatly appreciated:)

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations

      Sorry, I hope it didn't come across as criticism, that certainly wasn't the intention! Just wanted to offer a correction, as I know you like to be thorough in your presentations.
      Indeed. It's partly in a drive for safety, but also efficiency. By using the most accurate / up-to-date numbers, we can potentially save fuel, engine wear etc (as you briefly touched on in your vid).
      Great vid once again anyway!

    • @FlyBySimulations
      @FlyBySimulations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there Wayne, thanks for watching the video. Well, from what I understand, the activate button only appears after entering the route and is the start of a two-step verification process to make sure that the route entered is indeed correct. The execute light is the second part of the two step verification process wherein the captain and the first officer would confer with one another and then allow the aircraft to fly that particular route. The execute button from what I understand is a final confirmation given to the auto-flight systems within the aircraft saying "yes, we (the pilots) officially authorize you to use the information we have just entered into the CDU". Hence, it only appears after the route has been entered (and activated) as well as after the performance initialization has been completed - as both of those pages are extremely important for the aircraft to understand how it's going to fly, with the former telling it when and where it's going to fly and the latter instructing it to fly within certain specified parameters (using the reserve fuel, cost index, cruise altitude etc.). Obviously, I'm not a real world pilot, so there have to be better answers out there, but from what I understand, that seems to be a viable explanation. Do feel free to let me know if you find out otherwise:)

    Excellent. Thanks. Once programmed, does one have to do anything else to 'tell' the aircraft to follow that plan using the FMC? You've probably covered this Q in another 'episode' Just curious now. Very expertly presented BTW.....

    • @FlyBySimulations
      @FlyBySimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate it Ralph. Yes, you would normally use the MCP to program constraints for the autopilot to follow in conjunction with the FMC being programmed. According to skymatix (other YTer with close connections to Zibo), the sweet spot for the LW CG is 21.5%. Then the 737 is at it most stabile on approach. Easiest to do to shift the weight in the cargo holds. Also you can enter 38.4 into the tablet instead of 38400, but both will work

      Hey there E Rodriguez, I do have a snippet of the default EFB settings and some recommended settings in the Zibo EFB at the beginning of Episode 8 of this Aircraft Dissected series which you can find here: th-cam.com/video/sP86CoXlT7c/w-d-xo.html However, it is not a complete options and settings guide depending on the airline and the units of measurement and stuff. Hopefully you still found the rest of the content enjoyable to watch. If you did, please consider giving the videos a like and maybe subscribing to the channel:)

    thanks for the video. Excellent. Excellent. I have one problem which I hope you can help me. I've followed your tutorial but tried it with a different route ie CYYC to CYYV. I got as as the DEP/ARR. I keyed in the runway but when it came to STARS, SIDS and WAYPOINTS there was nothing on the FMC that matched what was generated by Simbrief. I'm not sure what to do. could this be because I'm using the unsubcribed, out of date AIRAC ie 1903. I noticed that the FMC says Nav Data: 2006231802 FEB01FEB28/18
    Thanks

      Hey there, sorry for the late reply. I use version 1.11.2.1 of the software. Once you install it, the specific executable you want to use is the airplanetoolbox.bat. That's the actual software. From there, you can play around with different profiles and eventually get around to calculating takeoff and landing performance. It's a little hard to understand at first, but if you would like, I could do a tutorial on it in a week or 2. For now though, you can use this tutorial available on TH-cam that walks you through the entire process: th-cam.com/video/fXYycks3jK4/w-d-xo.html . Hope that helped:)
