Just bought a 2010 Mini Cooper S Clubman 2 days ago and I'm doin a few mods (makin it my own). I've used your vids 3 times now so I went on ahead and subscribed. I'm from across the pond in the U.S. and everything over here is so complicated. Your videos are short, prompt, to the point and very easy to follow and understand. Simple and sweet is the only way to go in my book. Thank you for not being overly complicated with crazy graphics flyin all over the screen, way too loud dub step playin in the background and tryin to be witty by using all kinds of no nonsense catch phrases that have nothing too do with the topic. 😄
thanks for the vid i was told they just pulled off but wasnt sure as it felt solid , sitting between the seats was a good tip.if your changing just the gear knob there is no need to remove the gater .cheers:)
I'd ordered new boots/gaiters for both the shifter and the brake, and these instructions were concise enough that I was able to replace the shift boot a week after watching the video and didn't have to refer back to it. Thanks
Put it in 2nd gear and use a rubber mallet under the front of the knob and give it a good whack! I have seen so many people smash them selves in the face doing it that way. Will work on 2012 minis but be more careful if an auto.
You don't need to pull up the plastic rim or cut the cable tie that holds on the gaitor - just pull the knob upwards - that's all - nothing else . Mine wasn't anything like that hard to pull off just a good pull and hey presto it comes off.
Going to install my carbon fiber shift knob tonight BUT I forsee my self pulling it off, so hard that I hit the sunroof with the shiftknob n shatter it.. Lol I will be opening my sunroof 1st
Please do a 2012 R56? It is a very different process, and there is nothing online with a video showing how to do it, just a bunch of arguments on blogs. Thanks!
Going to go at it with a slide hammer, I really don't fancy the idea of smacking myself in the face with a gear knob and my two clenched fists. Though after looking at this video, I have decided there may be something I can fabricate to make this an easier job. I have just got a 2006 Mini the one with the five speed get rag gearbox and 1.6 engine, I believe it's called a tritec joint venture between Chrysler and BMW. The get rag gearbox was an upgrade from the Midland unit, which was inherently weak. And thanks to Superchips I have managed to easily upgrade my mini one to the same power as a Cooper from the era, with no worries about the gearbox shitting itself, result 😆, result 😆, result 😆
Can you tell me the width of the stick? I'm trying to buy a new shift knob online, and don't know which one fits? Is it 12mm? 8mm? Please tell me. It's a pain looking for the right one
13 years later and you’re still helping out. Cheers
Still here and trying to help !

Thank you. I just changed my 2007. Took about 4 minutes from start to finish after watching your video.

I used a rubber mallet and the old one popped right off. I put the new one on - it took less than a minute. Thanks for the video.
I can see myself decking myself in the nose with my gear knob
Yeah i did that
I too, see this in my future. Daughters car. Zut.
Wondering if I put a bag over it, I may catch it in there and not my face
with the force needed to remove that SOB, one automatically takes a faceplant into consideration..😂😂
You don't need to cut that clip. Just pull off the top, and universal shift knobs will work. The same for BMW before 2008
EpicFilms750 Assuming you are replacing the gear knob and gaitor.
Thanks mate, my girlfriend was already screaming all around !! Cheers !
Have you tried shifting into second really hard? That’s what I did...
So i'm not the only one?
@@Modmaster8 lmfao happened to me too 😂😂😂😂
So hard to leave this shit 😭😭😂
Thanks.. after a fruitless 5 minutes trying to unscrew the darn thing, TH-cam to the rescue.
Just a warning here, brace your face away from the gear knob. I literally woke up 30 mins later after knocking myself off in the chin.
Why'd you remove the gaiter if you're just removing the knob..?
Thanks for this . Like a dummy I been trying to unscrew mine to no avail, lol..
Me too 😂
Put it in 2nd gear and use a rubber mallet under the front of the knob and give it a good whack!

Well it went over my head and hit me in the back of the head 😂
Does anyone have a link on how to do this on an R56? I want to look at doing the handbrake as well but very little info on how to do this :(

Cutting that did nothing whatsoever.
Why do you need to cut the cable tie?
can u get it back on after taking it off

Thank you kindly, sir.✌🏻🇺🇸
Opps, when tried to pull, the whole thing came out! Including lever the head was attached too.
Not heard of this before

Thanks for sharing
How did your car not roll back with the E brake down and no gear in place? 🤔
Magic !
Thanks! It worked great!
Awesome explanation, thank you,
You don't need to cut that clip just pull the fuck outta that thing
Thank you oh my god thank you
Glad it helped !
5 sec and that give 4 sec to drink coffee just pull up on the knob with a little firm grip
Thanks, do you know what the thread size is of the gear stick
Unthreaded. Tapered / pliable plastic.
Thanks, very useful.
Can some one tell me how to fix the driver side seat? It's all the way up but won't go down.
Thanks.. after a fruitless 5 minutes trying to unscrew the darn thing, TH-cam to the rescue.
Always good to see the internet actually helping people and spreading knowledge and love !
