  • Virginia's Natural Chimneys were know as Cyclopean Towers in the 19th century. Made from limestone they stick up out of the valley and are a sight to be seen. They can be found in the The Chimneys Park and Campground in Mt Solon Virginia (Augusta County) , right outside of Harrisonburg.

      Good morning, RVA
There are many magnificent images of the rock formation you captured. 2:00 Here is one of my favorites. The rough face of the limestones, gorgeous blue sky, and clouds in the background make this planet's perfect picturesque atmosphere. The stone wall face is quite rugged inside and out. Is it not only quiet but colder? Over look trail is a must to see the breathtaking view. 4:59 Is there parking accessible close to the hiking trail? Is there any warning sign indicating restrictions while a hiker is inside of the cave, especially since you found a bat? When I kayaked to bat cave, there was a sign keeping some distance from the entrance of the cave. Thank you very much for this exciting destination. Adding to my lengthy bucket list.Cheers, RVA.

@@ms.kayak7seasGood morning to you as well. The parking lot is right next to the chimneys and trail head so there is easy access. There are no signs except to watch for falling rocks as shown is a short clip in the video. There aren't any signs or warnings about entering the cave. There is a trail leading to its entrance. There were no fallen rocks inside or outside of the the cave on the right.(Only the 1 on the left which was fenced off to keep people out. I guess with any outdoor place, you never know what wildlife that you might run into at anytime. Happy February! ~RVA~

    they can scratch you though.
The limestone is ancient coral reef and marine fossils can be spotted in it. What gets me is that the south Georgia limestone is very soft, but north GA limestone is very hard like stone. I guess it has something to do with age and pressure.o
