Great interview ! Always liked Tursunov as a player i also felt he underachieved a bit as a player but then he still had a good career. It shows you how tough pro tennis is though and theirs a lot of factors that effect players like mental strength, injuries etc...
I felt he definitely underachieved. Recall a friend of mine back in the early 2000's before the Boca Challenger saying he was the new wave of player. Not lacking power on any stroke. Serving big and returning big. Overall, he was better than Fernando Gonzalez, and many others who made GS finals. Ancic was another from that group that underachieved due to injury. I really thought those two would break top ten. Personally, I felt using higher balls to Federer's backhand was something alot of players didn't try to utilize. Tursunov's backhand grip looked more suited for handling high balls over Federer's grip.
